Introduction

Welcome to my support guide for Lux. In this guide I will provide recommended builds for items, runes, masteries, etc. accompanied by explanations. I hope this helps you during your game.

(Note: Some game situations require you to pick and mix items from both the 'sustain support' and 'aggressive support' builds, hopefully my item explanations will help you when deciding which items to choose).

Pros / Cons


Pros:
  • Good cc
  • Good range
  • Good poke
  • Good early and mid game
  • Has shield abilities
  • Has scouting abilities



Cons:
  • Possible mana issues early game
  • Squishy
  • Poor end game

Summoner spells


Flash is standard summoner spell.
It provides defence by enabling you to flash over a wall or flash from an oncoming spell.
It can also provide offence by enabling you to flash towards the enemy if you need that final hit, however I find this type of scenario not occuring very often.

Exhaust provides a nice slowing effect which you can use to secure kills or provide a higher chance of escape.

Runes







This armour will help during early game to reduce the damage of any attacks/pokes done to you, it also let's you stay in the lane for longer.


Same reason as the Greater Mark of Armor, Greater Seal of Armor will also help you early game.


During early game, the enemy support will mostly cause magic damage when trying to poke you. This rune will help to reduce that damage and slightly helps late game in team fights when the APC is present.


No need for Greater Quintessence of Gold anymore, say hello to the Greater Quintessence of Ability Power. This quint will give an extra kick to your poke and help you do more damage in the game.

Masteries

Sustain mastery tree
Offensive:
You don't need offensive masteries if you're sustaining the team.

Defensive:
Lux is very squishy and needs some defence masteries to help her out in the game.
Block can literally be a life saver if you're getting chased on low health.
Veteran Scars and Juggernaut both give a nice boost to Lux's health enabling her to stay in the lane for longer.

Utility:
As a non-tanky support, you will need to concentrate on the utility masteries.
Greed , Scavenger , Wealth and Bandit will all help to provide you the gold you need early game to rush those important items.
Culinary Master ; Cookies can be life savers, literally!
Fleet of Foot and Wanderer gives you extra speed needed either for running away from enemies or running to your allies help.

Aggressive mastery tree
Offensive:
If you're going aggressive, you will need damage.

Expose Weakness is a good mastery which can let you and your ADC provide extra damage to the enemy.
Mental Force and Arcane Mastery provide you with some ability power in the game, this will make your pokes more painful.
Feast is a decent way to restore health and mana when performing wave clears late game.

Skill Sequence

Ability Sequence

Start with and concentrate on Lucent Singularity, this acts as a good poke spell and a possible escape spell with it's cc effect. It's also good for scouting brushes and jungles when your wards may be down.

Next concentrate on Prismatic Barrier. The spell provides a nice barrier for your allies during fights and it can save lives when used on a low health ally. Please don't use it against the enemy like an attack spell, IT DOES NO DAMAGE. I've seen so many people do this and drain their mana away for no reason.

Get Light Binding early game but then leave it until late game, you only want it for the effect of stunning enemies. It's pointless upgrading it for the damage as you are the support of the team, you are there for the utility.

Upgrade Final Spark every chance you get, this spell allows you to weaken/kill enemies whilst showing the area nearby.

Skill usage

There are three uses for Lucent Singularity:
  • Poking
  • Slowing effect
  • Scouting

Below, there are two images showing the use of scouting. As we can see the scouted brush is clear and the dragon is still alive.
Note; the scouting effect does not work with stealthed champions such as Teemo, Rengar, Evelynn, Shaco or Twitch.


Below is an image showing the enemy Sona caught in Lucent Singularity. This gives the ADC longer time to attack the enemy. Try to activate the second part of Lucent Singularity just as the enemy is about to leave the spell zone, this will increase the time they are slowed.

There are two uses for Light Binding:
  • Trapping enemies players
  • Escape

Below is an image showing how two enemy players are trapped with Light Binding, thus enabling me to escape alive. Please take note that Light Binding does not stun the enemy, they can still attack you and allies whilst trapped. Also the spell hits two enemies, use this to try and trap two enemy players at once by using the spell at the correct angle.

There is only one use for Prismatic Barrier, however it can be a life-saver one:
  • Gives an ally and yourself a shield

Below is an image of me using the spell on the ADC, this spell will give a shield to every ally it touches but will always give you the shield first. Therefore try and turn the enemies attention to you before using the spell, this will increase the chances of allies surviving.

Starting items

Starting items:






Ancient Coin provides health and mana regeneration and gold, this can be very helpful early game. It allows you to stay in the lane for longer and gives you the necessary gold needed for your items. Also, it upgrades into the beautiful item of talisman of ascension which gives a speed boost.

Stealth Ward is necessary for showing vision of the surrounding area, the last thing you want happening is be ganked with no possible warning. Use this ward and the Stealth Ward to help maintain vision of the surrounding area near bot.


Health Potions can help to keep you in the lane for longer, but also removes the damage from those nasty autos, pokes or ganks.

First / second recall items

Rush:






Buy Sightstone item ASAP, this is vital for providing vision of the map and it also provides a nice bit of health to keep you longer in the lane.


After buying Sightstone, you can sell Stealth Ward and replace it with Sweeping Lens. Basically you have no worry of ward shortages, but you can then remove any enemy wards to blind them.


Boots provide a lovely bit of speed for running back into the action or running away for your life.


Nomad's Medallion is basically a better version of Ancient Coin. It provides more health and mana regeneration, and more gold per minion killed near you.

Sustain support build

Final build:
If you're playing defensively or safely in a game, take this build.




talisman of ascension



















Ruby Sightstone gives you more health and more wards, lovely.




Talisman of ascension is a better version of Nomad's Medallion. It gives you more health and mana regeneration, and it gives you more gold. Also, it has a speed boost effect which can help you and allies either escape from danger or run back into the battle.


Mobility Boots gives you a very high speed increase and is great for running back into fights or running to save allies. The captain: enchantment gives a helpful speed boost to allies and minions, perfect for pushing lanes quickly.



Locket of the Iron Solari is usually found in support builds, it is very helpful during team fights by providing magic resistance and increased health regeneration to nearby allies. The unique active can definitely help during team fights by letting your allies last longer in the fray, but it can also act as a life saver to allies with low health.
(If your allied tank has this item, grab a situational item instead).


Mikael's Blessing can provide you with helpful magic resistance needed late game when facing the APC, but it also heals and removes cc effects to an affected ally.
(If cc effects are not an issue, take a situational item instead).



Deathfire Grasp allows you to do damage to the enemy and weaken a specific target to take large amounts of damage from your APC. It also provides the last part of your cooldown reduction.



Oracle's Lens provides you true vision for a decent amount of time, and it only has a 60 second cooldown.

Aggressive support build

Final build:
If you're playing aggressively in a game, take this build.



talisman of ascension

Sorcerer's Shoes gives you some magic penetration which can help Lux perform more damage on the enemy. The captain: enchantment gives a helpful speed boost to allies and minions, perfect for pushing lanes quickly.

Athene's Unholy Grail this gives you final part of your cooldown reduction, but also you a good amount of mana regeneration so you can spam your moves and more ability power for that damage.


Rabadon's Deathcap a huge amount of ability power with your AP ratios can deliver some very damage.



Void Staff gives you large amount of magic penetration so any magic resist items they have become useless.



Oracle's Lens provides you true vision for a decent amount of time, and it only has a 60 second cooldown.

Situational items

Optional items:






Morellonomicon also gives you mana benefits, but it's primarily bought for it's damage properties. Landing Lucent Singularity or Final Spark with this item can cause some serious damage to the enemy.


Zhonya's Hourglass gives a huge amount of ability power and has a unique active that can potentially save your life.


Vision Ward is a good item for keeping an eye on dragon and baron, it does not have a set lifetime but it can spotted by enemy players and destroyed quite easily. I would also recommend Vision Ward to be used if the enemy team have these particular champions: Teemo, Rengar, Evelynn, Shaco and Twitch.

Warding

Here is a map that roughly shows the best warding locations during certain game phases:


Notice how you cannot ward all of the black or light blue dots due to the Season 4 ward restrictions, this is where you will need to communicate with your team and ask them to place the wards in the locations you are currently unable to.

Same goes with the pink wards in the dragon and baron locations, however I usually place the pink ward on dragon during the early stages of the game and move it to baron during the late stages of the game.

Now here are 2 cheeky images of how to place the pink wards on dragon/baron:


The pink wards can only be seen once the enemy team has started attacking the dragon/baron, this will give the warning that they're there just before the ward get's destroyed.
