Varus, The Arrow of Retribution
For his incomparable skill with the bow and his unquestioned sense of honor, Varus was chosen to be the warden of a sacred Ionian temple. The temple was built to contain an ancient pit of corruption so vile that Ionian Elders feared it could envelop the island in darkness. Varus prided himself on his position, as only the most exceptional Ionian warriors were selected for the role. He lived with his family in a nearby village and led a quiet life of disciplined routine until the day the forces of Noxus invaded Ionia. Their shock troops left nothing but death and desolation in their wake, and the temple lay in their path. Varus was forced to make a decision. He was bound by honor to stay and defend the temple, but without him the village's few inhabitants could offer little resistance against the oncoming war machine. Gravely, he chose to fulfill his duty as a warden. The corruption could not be allowed to escape.
His arrows sundered the troops who tried to wrest the temple from him that day. However, when he returned to his village, he found that it had been reduced to a smoldering graveyard. Remorse at the sight of his slain family gave way to overwhelming regret and then to seething hatred. He swore to slaughter every Noxian invader, but first he needed to become stronger. He turned to that which he had sacrificed everything to protect. The pit of corruption would consume him wholly, as a flame devours a wick, but its abominable power would burn within him until he was lost. This was a path from which there could be no return. With grim resolve, he condemned himself to the black flames, feeling malevolent energy bond to his skin... and with it, the promise of ruin. He left, seeking the blood of all Noxians involved with the invasion, a grisly task that eventually led him to the invasion's most infamous perpetrators in the League of Legends.

"The life of an arrow is fleeting, built of nothing but direction and intent."

Skill Sequence

Varus, combination of abilities gives him the ability to apply pressure to his opponent. Piercing Arrow allows him to both farm safely and damage enemy champions without fear. The AoE healing debuff from Hail of Arrows complicates a support champion’s efforts to out-heal the attrition damage. When the time comes to move in for the kill, Living Vengeance keeps Varus Attack Speed high while he’s last hitting, enabling him to quickly stack up Contamination charges from Blighted Quiver in preparation for a finishing Destruction.

LivingVengeance
On champion kill or assist, Varus gains 40% attack speed for 6 seconds.
On minion kill, Varus gains 20% attack speed for 3 seconds

Piercing Arrow - Varus readies and then fires a powerful shot that gains extra range and damage the longer he spends preparing to fire.

First Cast: Varus starts drawing back his next shot, gradually increasing its range and damage.

Second Cast: Varus fires, dealing 10/43/77/110/143 (+ ) to 15/65/115/165/215 (+ ) physical damage, reduced by 15% per enemy hit (minimum 33%).

While preparing to shoot Varus' Movement Speed is slowed by 20%. After 4 seconds, Piercing Arrow fails but refunds half its mana cost.

Cost
70/75/80/85/90 Mana
Range
925

Blighted Quiver - Varus' basic attacks deal bonus magic damage and apply Blight. Varus' other abilities detonate Blight, dealing magic damage based on the target's maximum health.
Passive: Varus' basic attacks deal 10/14/18/22/26 (+0.25) bonus magic damage and apply Blight for 6 seconds (stacks 3 times).

Varus' other abilities detonate Blight, dealing magic damage equal to 2/2.75/3.5/4.25/5% (+0.01%) of the target's maximum Health per stack (Max: 360 total damage vs Monsters).

Range
0

Hail of Arrows - Varus fires a hail of arrows that deal physical damage and desecrate the ground. Desecrated ground slows enemies' Movement Speed and reduces their healing and regeneration.
Varus fires a hail of arrows that deals 65/105/145/185/225 (+ ) physical damage and desecrates the ground for 4 seconds.

Desecrated Ground slows enemy Movement Speed by 25/30/35/40/45% and reduces healing effects by 50%.

Cost
80 Mana
Range
925

Chain of Corruption - Varus flings out a tendril of corruption that immobilizes the first enemy champion hit and then spreads towards nearby uninfected champions, immobilizing them too on contact.
Varus flings out a tendril of corruption that deals 150/250/350 (+1) magic damage and immobilizes the first enemy champion hit for 2 seconds.

The corruption then spreads towards nearby uninfected enemy champions, applying the same damage and immobilize if it reaches them.

Cost
120 Mana
Range
1200

Jungle Spawn Time ;D

If you are planning to improve and properly control the jungle, the times for when the buffs, dragons and creeps respawn is very important. I am placing this near the top of the guide, so that everyone looks at this before anything else.

Baron respawns in 7 minutes

Early Game

As already said, use some mana for Hail of Arrows to harass or lasthit. Start with boots almost every game, you will need the movement speed.
At level 2 you can start to stack Blight on your enemy and trigger the stacks with Hail of Arrows if he has a lower attack range than you.
At level 4 start using Piercing Arrow to trigger the stacks and follow up with Hail of Arrows. Varus' level 4 is pretty strong in most matchups, make use of that.
At level 6 you can start a hard CC/burst combo if your support is either Leona, Taric, Nautilus, Blitz or Alistar. The ultimate will increase your damage furthermore and allow you to trigger at least one Blight stack (as it takes some time til the ultimate finally triggers; 'til then you should've attacked again). Always try to keep your enemy in your Hail of Arrows, that's Varus' biggest advantage against theHeal-meta.

Mid Game

In midgame you will have some points in Piercing Arrow, allowing you to poke around more in lane (if you're still there) and push the turret or to get (small) advantages for an upcoming teamfight.
Due to the high range of this skill, you can stay back easily and wait for the engagement. Don't get to close to the fight, Varus is not made for that (he's not only not Caitlyn, he's also not Vayne and not Graves). You wouldn't get out again. As your ultimate is on a pretty high range as well, just wait for someone to rush onto you and stop him with Chain of Corruption, when the Corruption is able to spread (in best case), then kill.

You can also initiate fights with your ultimate ;D
Back to Top

Late Game

Varus is very strong in late due to his high range of both the attacks and all of his skills. The heal reduction will become more and more important, the ultimate will be a pure CC skill. You will need to concentrate a lot more on triggering Blight as the damage from Blighted Quiver is getting very high again. Also positioning is getting more important, as you die faster now. Keep even more distance, but make sure, your mates will be able to help you if someone flashes into you (or uses a similiar skill).

Farming

With maxing Blighted Quiver you wont need that much mana. This allows you to lasthit with your Hail of Arrows at level 1, if needed.

Up from level 2 farming is getting pretty easy with the extra damage from Blighted Quiver.

If you have zoning problems, get an early point inPiercing Arrow to farm creeps from the distance or even max this skill first.

Who Can Support Varus (Updated)

Best supports are: Leona, Taric, Janna

Soraka
Not that useful, except when maxing Piercing Arrow first as the mana costs are pretty high. With Blighted Quiver you wont need her mana. Only pick her as a counter to Urgot.

Alistar
He's ok. He can keep enemys in your Hail of Arrows with his Pulverize, but his Headbuttmay push them out again. Better pick AGAINST Varus as he has no burst heal, but small potions of, which is better against Hail of Arrows.

Leona
Probably the best support for Varus. She can chainstun an enemy, keeping him in your Hail of Arrows for a long time, denying heal quite hard.

Taric's a great choice if you need sustain and can't or don't want to pick Leona due to this. His stun can keep enemys in your Hail of Arrows as well or engage the fight. He also brings a lot of burst damage with his level 6 with him and the AP bonus is great for your Blighted Quiver.

Janna
Works well. A hard CC lane which will pay off past level 6. Though stronger on a Varus who maxes Piercing Arrow first, due to her shield. Her passive helps a lot to remove the disadvantage of the low movementspeed of Varus.

Nunu & Willump
The AS-buff is nice in general, but will mess up your timings pretty hard. You wont be able to trigger the stacks often enough as all of your other spells are on cooldown for too long because you get the 3 stacks too fast. Also no other good synergy; a rather bad pick.

Nautilus
Quite good pick

Blitzcrank
Blitzcrank can be a good pick here, depending on the enemy's lane. Only take him if you're sure you can take the close combat; dont pick him against Vayne or Graves. They will rather be happy if you hook them.

Sona
Sona works with almost everything. She's ok, but not the best pick.

Lulu
The movementspeed and AP buff is useful for Varus, but she's not the best pick. Better than Soraka though.

Boots Choice

Mercury's Treads will give you 35% tenacity which is werry good vs high cc(crowd control) teams.Use them if the team has some cc and some mages.

Berserker's Greaves are my prefered boots.Because i get a lot of AD from my runes and Doran's Blade i get these.More attack speed means more DMG in less time :D

Boots of Swiftness are also some boots that are good for some reasons:

1.They give more move speed than the rest(but do not give tenacity, attack speed or magic resist).
2.This also helps with your 1st spell.
3.with Phantom Dancer you can get a high move speed.

Is Trinity force Good or Bad ?

Adds:
*30 AP
*30 AD
*30% attack speed
*15% critical chance
*250 HP
*250 Mana
*12% movement speed
Passive:25% chance to slow the targets movement speed by 35% for 3.5 sec.
On cast, increases your base attack by 150% for one attack.2 sec cooldown.

This are the things you get for 4000gold.All will benefit you,but you need to replace it with an item. What item will it be?Lets take a look...
* The Bloodthirster will give you 60 DMG and 15% lifesteal.100 and 20% with full stacks.Definitly not for trade.
* Infinity Edge will give you 25% critical chance and 80 DMG.It gives you 50% more DMG with crits,so,
not for trade. This should stack with Trinity Force and shouldn't be replaced.
* Last Whisper will split enemy's armor by half, so, don't switch.
*So basicly this leaves us to Frozen Mallet. It costs 3250, which is 850 gold less than the Trinity Force. But the mallet gives you only 700 hp and 20 AD,with the passive. So this is your choice,if they have a slow team, get Trinity Force,if you feel like you need the slow, get Frozen Mallet(red buff may also salve this problem).
The item is expensiveeeee. Get it if you wish, your choise is everything there.
Some people think this item is not for an AD carry, and they are noobs, it is great for an AD.After you shoot Piercing Arrow you will deal great damage.

Gameplay (sorry for no coding its coming soon dont worry ;D)

Early game

Start with Boots and mana potions.Suggested to go mid lane.If your team has an support, both of who will protect you and don't necessarily need creep kills because they will be earning their gold through assists.Go bot lane with a Doran's Blade if that is the case.If you are on the Blue Team, grab Double Golems with your support before going to lane. This will give you somewhat of a level advantage, and a little bit more gold.Once in the lane, you will want to last hit minions as much as possible, and if everything goes well (maybe you've even scored First Blood/a kill) you should have enough money for a B. F. Sword before the 15 minute mark (so you normally can afford Boots of Speed at the same time). The reasons for last-hitting is NOT JUST to guarantee the creep kill, but to ensure you lane as safely as possible - not pushing and leaving yourself susceptible to ganks.

Mid Game
Mid game starts about when you have destroyed the enemy turret, or when the ganks and teamfights started.Lasts to lvl 18.
The above image( taken from jhoijhoi, i dunno to work on photoshop) is a prime example of a relatively "normal" game for Varus pre 30 minutes in. You want to outfarm the enemy AD carry, don't worry too much about getting kills, while kills do give you gold, farming minions should be top priority next to harassing the enemy lane and forcing them to retreat.

However, if the game is not going well, and you're being zoned, or you've died, of course buy an extra Doran's Blade to help with survivability,or ask the mid lane for a gank.

You've got Flash as an escape, so you shouldn't be dying too much. If they try to gank you (you have wards from your support and your teammates calling MIA, so ganks should fail 90% of the time), spam "F" to gtfo. Once you're at the tower, they'll be less inclined to try and kill you, unless they have tanky towerdivers, suiciders, or champions like Nautilus. Being in a duo lane (2v2) means you've got double the chance to escape and double the chance to die, so keep that in mind. Now the items you buy depend on either your minions farm(shoul be more than 50 on beggining of mid game) and/or your kills/assists.In an normal game, you should build atleast to Phantom Dancer untill the late game part.

late game
You are a monster in late game teamfights, you use range as your ally, and use Hail of Arrows to reduce the supports healing.Shoot the enemy 3 times and hit him with penetrating arrow. If they don't focus you u'll be fine. You should have gotten atleast the first 2-3 core items( Last Whisper, Phantom Dancer, and one ofensive item). Now buy the items at any order.Have the blue buff at all times and try to gank if someone is alone or trying to push lanes.Dragon and Baron should be warded at all times, and if you kill 1 or 2 in their team, get baron.
Will add more and more.

Counters

Blitzcrank is extremely deadly to Varus since Varus has no escape abilities except for [Flash so if you get grabbed and won't have your Flash up; you probably wind up dead. Kog'Maw will simply outharass Varus after level 6 with his Bio-Arcane Barrage and Living Artillery. Soraka will simply cancel out your Piercing Arrow harass with her Astral Blessing.

Team Fights

In team fights, Varus’ long range allows him to maintain safe positioning until he’s able to score a kill on an enemy champion. Once he’s picked off an enemy, the massive Attack Speed boost from Living Vengeance combined with area of effect crowd control from Chains of Corruption make him a truly terrifying sight on the battlefield.
Will add more soon.
