Introduction

You may have be wondering why it's called Blue Ezreal.
The items that make up the core all have a strong presence of blue/cool colors in them.
Blue Ezreal does some serious damage with his Mystic Shot, and with the 4.10 patch, I've been seeing some new potential with this build. The Original Blue Ezreal was actually the first build I ever followed, Ezreal also being the first champion I ever got into playing, so seeing a potential comeback is exciting.

As of the 5.22 Patch, there have been heavy changes to items, and a few to Ezreal which only further increase his cooldowns and potential. This guide has been updated to accommodate for such.

Pros and Cons

Pros and Cons
Pros

+ Great Damage
+ Large Range
+ Global Ult
+ High Mobility
+ Great lane clearing
Cons

- Mediocre laning phase.
- Item Reliant
- Skillshot Reliant
- Global Ult
- Low mobility when Arcane Shift is on cooldown

Blue Ezreal is all about his skillshots, which means landing them is important for one, however, his damage with Mystic Shot is high, long range, and applies several kiting effects for when being chased through a jungle happens. His Trueshot Barrage is amazing for lane clearing and long distance KSing or finishers. His Arcane Shift is basically a free flash with a much lower cooldown (Especially when you land those Mystic Shots) and his kiting potential is high when all his abilities and items are factored in.

Blue Ezreal suffers from a mediocre (at BEST) laning phase due to low amounts of AD granted by the items that should be bought, each giving no stats until all the items are constructed together. It is best if one focuses on CSing more than anything else, as Blue Ezreal requires a lot of gold for his items. He requires a player capable of landing his skillshots (Namely Mystic Shot), as missing his Trueshot Barrage is an incredibly easy thing to do.

Skill Sequence and Champion Abilities

Ezreal's passive is an attack speed steroid. Damaging anything with your abilities will grant an extra 10% attack speed up to 50% bonus attack speed. This is great for when your Mystic Shot is on cooldown and is incredibly useful for taking out those turrets.

Ezreal's Mystic Shot is the bread and butter of the blue build, and generally Ezreal. You can't have a ham sandwich without any bread and butter. Leveling this first is a must. His Mystic Shot brings extra damage, extra range, lower cooldowns (Considering you land it), and amazing poke (Especially when used with TPA Ezreal ). It acts just like a basic attack, applying any on-hit effect including lifesteal, Blessing of the Lizard Elder , Phage, Essence Reaver, and so on.

Essence Flux sadly has very little use in blue build, however, ranking this at level 4 is generally a good idea. It can poke enemy champions from behind minions, structures, and other enemy champions. Its damage in the early game is alright, and it's steroid to allies is pretty great for junglers who use attack speed.

Notes and Tips

Arcane Shift is an incredibly useful ability on Ezreal in general. It acts as low-cooldown Flash that uses a little bit of mana. It can help escape from those pesky Blitzcrank Rocket Grabs and Thresh Death Sentences. You can Arcane Shift behind Lee Sin and let him Dragon's Rage you in your favor, or you can Arcane Shift a little forward so Gragas's Explosive Cask gives you a nudge in the escape direction. This little gem has amazing capabilities and should be used in all its potential.

Trueshot Barrage has a multitude of uses, much like Mystic Shot. It should be noted, however, Trueshot Barrage is a global ult and is much easier to miss your mark with. It scales off both AD and AP and lowers damage with each person hit. It is ideal for lane clearing (More often than not, you're going to end up leaving them with that much health), long range KSing (Considering you can aim it well enough), and finishing off targets.

Masteries

The masteries for Blue Ezreal are pretty straight forward. Putting points into Cunning allows one to get Thunderlord's Decree and Intelligence , the latter granting a 5% extension on the CDR cap, which is normally at 40%.

Items

Item Sequence

Ionian Boots of Lucidity - Furor 1350
Blade of the Ruined King 3200
Muramana 2900
Iceborn Gauntlet 2600
Death's Dance 3200
Lord Dominik's Regards 3000

Starting Items

With the 4.10 patch, Doran's Blade grants 3% Life steal instead of a flat 3 health per attack. This is pretty awesome in junction with Mystic Shot and two Greater Quintessence of Life Steal. The extra health matters early game, and the extra attack damage is a nice kick-start in damage, helps you CS better, and makes your life steal more effective. Pretty decent starter item all around.
When the going gets tough, the tough gets going and so does your health. Health potions are the counter to these. Use them when ignited to (Maybe.) survive, make sure no one ends you early, plenty of practical uses.
You've pretty much got no choice but to take it as the starting trinket as of the Pre-Season.

First Buys

This item is the one item you need to rush right away. Every time you fire off a Mystic Shot, Essence Flux, Arcane Shift, or Trueshot Barrage you gain more mana. Need to put the dog out? It will gain mana while you're away. Since Blue Ezreal relies on his skills, more mana is better. The extra mana regen will help make sure you get your mana back quicker just to fire it off again anyways.
This a great item to buy early on, the extra 10% life steal means you can stay in lane much longer, and the 10 attack damage helps CS better. It also helps by building into Death's Dance, an important item in the blue build.
This is a decent item to buy early on. The movement speed can help boost your mobility significantly, not to mention it builds into Ionian Boots of Lucidity.

Core

As of 5.22, Death's Dance is replacing Essence Reaver as the Life Steal and 10% CDR granting item. Its utility is a bit different, as it does not grant mana back on Mystic Shot or an auto-attack, however, it grants a more potent form of Life Steal in the form of 15% all physical damage back as health, as opposed to just on auto-attacks. More importantly, the second passive takes 15% of all Damage Taken and distributes it over time. This grants even just a little bit larger level of survival, which can be useful in tight situation where you might find yourself otherwise bursted down.
This is a rather great buy on blue ezreal. Not only does it grant extra mana (Which pairs nicely with the Manamune), but it grants extra armor for a little bit of survival. This is great for those slight scuffles and trades with other AD champions. It grants 20% CDR, a whole half to the 40%, and the Spellblade passive is quite useful. Not only does it increase damage dealt, it adds a small amount of AoE damage, and applies a slow. This slow is great for kiting and can be applied by your Mystic Shot. It should that Glacial Shroud is a component of Iceborn Gauntlet and grants that sweet 10% CDR, making it a good defensive/utility item to buy.
More movement speed, more mobility. In addition to granting more MS, there's the 10% CDR, which in conjunction with the other items grants the 40% CDR, and addition to granting regular CDR, it grants a CDR onto Summoner Spells, which is a nice little boost to survival and utility.

Manamune

This item is the reason why we built a Tear of the Goddess early on. This does not mean for any reason you should rush it. I found that building a Tear of the Goddess early on and filling it to atleast 675+ mana works better than rushing a Manamune because Tear of the Goddess gains mana even when you're not doing anything. More often than not, this works incredibly well, and being able to convert into the Muramana right away is plus too.

Final Buys

As of the 5.22 Patch, there are two final last whisper items. The former, Lord Dominik's Regards grants more damage to healthier targets in addition to penetrating their armor. The latter, Mortal Reminder applies grievous wounds, reducing the struck target's healing by 50%. This particularly useful against targets with large amounts of healing such as Vladimir, Soraka, Aatrox and so forth. In the case of Dr. Mundo, who is both healthy and with high health regen, it'd be best to take Lord Dominik's Regards, which will boost all damage against him.
This item is a real deal stealer. It grants more attack speed that goes well with Rising Spell Force, more life steal and attack damage which goes great with Mystic Shot, but the best benefits are the actives an the passives. The passive makes Mystic Shot deal an additional 6% of the enemies current health, making it practical for dealing more damage, especially to the tank targets, and for overall mayhem. The active is amazing for chasing and escapes. It rips away health and gives it to you, and it steals movement speed and gives it to you. More mobility and vitality makes this a great item.
Furor is a pretty good enchantment on your boots because they grant more kiting capabilities. Both your basic attacks and Mystic Shot grant you movement speed, making it harder to catch you.
Guardian Angel is an item one should consider buying in place of a Blade of the Ruined King as it grants armor and magic resist (Something Blue Ezreal lacks) and allows you to RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE. It's completely situational to buy this over Blade of the Ruined King so I'll leave the choice to you.
