Introduction

Hey all! Today I'm gonna be writing about Urgot. Or, more precisely, why he should go mid and butcher around.
I'll pass through the major points of build and gameplay, fastest way to summer it all up is to... read the guide!
Small note, any jokes about ad carry Sona are to be considered hypothetical.

Pros / Cons

+If done properly, extreme power throughout early and mid game
+Lane domination
+Overpowering anyone except maybe ad carries such as Vayne late game.

Summoner Spells

My Preference
These let you get away out of most situations, generally keep safe and have offensive uses as well.



Notable Mentions
space Go back quickly to lane? Why not!? space It's a good choice, in place of Cleanse. Flash you need in any case to get away with ulting. Of course you can replace Flash with it, but I do not recommend doing so. space Another interesting alternative to Cleanse, it might let you survive hard CC if you trigger it right after, and also lets you help teammates too.



Unviable Choices
space This is unviable simply because you have enough slowing already, and shouldn't pick fights with ad carries (on who you would use this) you should take something else honestly. space This is a bad choice because half of the time you won't be able to use it. You will either be too far ( Noxian Corrosive Charge -> Acid Hunterx3 skirmish combo) or won't help out too much in case of a close duel. space Surge is bad because you don't exactly need all that attack speed. Your attacks are use to trigger Zaun-Touched Bolt Augmentor and Trinity Force. Using them more with a summoner spell over another is a waste.

Runes

  • Greater Mark of Desolation is an obvious choice, as pretty much all of your damage is physical.
  • Greater Seal of Replentishment is preferable over Greater Seal of Armor because:
    • You will be laning against an ap carry, who has magic damage.
    • You have mana management problems.
    • Glyphs are more effective in magic resistance.
  • Greater Glyph of Magic Resist because you need magic resistance against the ap carry that will usually go mid.
  • Greater Quintessence of Life Steal isn't a necessity, but I like it because it gives you some extra sustain you may need against a mage.

Skills Explained


Zaun-Touched Bolt Augmenter
Reduces enemy damage output when you hit him with an AA
This is useful against any champion as it diminishes damage dealt in general. So Auto Attacking (AA!) your opponent will make him deal less damage to you! Yet another reason to use AAs.

Acid Hunter:
Shoot a skill shot that damages.
Your main damaging ability, you can use it to harass, deal more damage in a skirmish, use it in long range by locking down with Noxian Corrosive Charge... etc.

Terror Capacitor
Shield. While it's on your AAs and Acid Hunter slow.
This is useful not for the shield (it's your only ap ratio XD) but for the slow, use it when enemies are coming towards you and are planning to commit to make them change their mind or kill, or use it on those running away to chase easier.

Noxian Corrosive Charge
A ranged poison that allows you to never miss Acid Hunter
Never miss Acid Hunter with this, it's mainly used for long range skirmishes. Try to go by without it in close range ones, unless you're sure you can kill the guy without him running away.

Hyper-Kinetic position reverseHyper-Kinetic Position Reverse
Change spots with target applying buffs/debuffs
This changes spots with the target champion, gives you a large bonus of Armor and Magic Resistance, stun the target and slows it. Use it in close encounters to gain an advantage, switch positions with the enemy carry and flash away!

This is a good choice, considering you're going to be going mid. It gives you the extra oomph to get an early kill, and the survivability to stay in long enough if you don't get it.




Early Game items:

Around the end of early game, you should have something similar.
With this you have the survivability you need, good damage and increased gold income.




Mid-Game items:

This is an approximate view of what you should get around mid game in a generic game. You have some armor penetration, critical chance for more effective AA alternates and a lot of damage for both AA and Acid Hunter

Which is the currently optimal (in my opinion) build for Urgot,
your AAs are made to be alternated with Acid Hunter.
You can deal considerable damage alone and have good chances of winning skirmishes.

This is a sub-section with alternatives (situational) for each stage of the game.

Starting Game:
I'm laning against a weak early game mage

Item Sequence

Health Potion 50
This gives you the sameOOMPH as a Doran's Blade, but allows you to build directly into a phage later for Tri-Force, and is so more efficient in terms of gold then a Doran's Blade.



I gotta mid against a strong mid like Ahri or Brand!

This assures you have nice defense against them (in magic resistance or move speed for dodging).




Early Game items:
I'm failing very hard and have to be carried by Sona.

You can survive easier against APs and deal continuous damage (though not very much) using this. You won't do much till mid game though.




I'm owning like hell, they gank me with 3 people and I triple kill them!

in that case just go hardcore into critical chance and attack damage, if you are owning that badly you can afford to act like an ad carry to get gold even faster. (it may seem costly but if you're owning that badly you can easily get this build before 25 min, which is when I think early game ends and mid game begins)




I'm doing well, but bot (ad carry) is feeding.

This is to assure you a nice and smooth mid-game and allows you to gank around to help everyone out.




Mid-Game:
I'm dominating everyone. I can solo all 5 as long as they don't stun!

If you tell me this happens, I won't believe you, but this is about what you should have. You got more damage output and you can pretty much carry at that point. I'll say it again: Urgot is NOT an ad carry, nor a FULL ad caster, but he can act like either if he HAS TO! In this case you can act like a full ad carry, I mean if you dominate that badly.




Our ad carry isn't doing anything, but I'm doing alright

This means that you are now the ad carry. But the other team is surely fed by your real ad carry! With this you get Attack Damage mainly, to use Acid Hunter to it's most, but also some lifesteal with Bloodthirster and Sheen/ Zeal to use AAs in alternation with Acid Hunter if you have the opportunity.




I'm feeding but my team is doing well (especially Sona, who is carrying)

Tear of the Goddess 400
Heart of Gold 825
Avarice Blade 800
Boots of Swiftness 900
Just take these to get some gold and stack mana for an eventual Manamune this way you won't be completely useless late game, and have a chance to feed a bit less. (even do some damage if you're lucky!)




Late Game:
I'm demolishing the team, they try to surrender every minute, but some troll isn't letting them.

Just act like an invincible ad carry and go ahead at demolishing them. Also make sure to push a lot and kill anyone in sight.

This here is pretty much the build that will let you survive in small encounters and deal damage when you're safe and sound.

Last Whisper 1450
You are now the ad carry. Try to act like one, but never forget to alternate AA and Acid Hunter for maximal effect. Push lots and try not to die no matter what.

Farming

Yes, even though there's an enemy, like Anivia or Ahri RIGHT THERE, just waiting to be hit with Acid Hunter, you should still last-hit creeps. It's common knowledge that CS is IMPORTANT, especially if you have a solo lane.

Killing champs is good and fine, just don't forget to kill the creeps too. Basically, enemy champions are bigger creeps that give more gold =3.

Team Work

Urgot is a skirmisher and as such he's good at setting up a teamfight, but he's not very good at being in the middle of the teamfight.
Just hang around the edges and deal your damage output. Maybe right before a teamfight Hyper-kinetic Position Reverse with their AD carry and flash over the wall to come back later.

Unique Skills

Urgot is the best skirmisher in the GAME.
Forget Corki and Xerath.

Xerath doesn't have proper lock on and misses easily:

Btw, only look at the first 32 sec of the video, the rest is just demonstrating how Xerath feels (Black screen for 2 min ftw!).

Corki actually has to commit to the fight. His ult has no real poke.

Bot?

What about Urgot bot!?
Well, it can be done. I think Urgot mid is much better,
but Urgot/ Taric and Urgot/ Soraka should work well.

How to mid?

This here is simply a mini-guide on how to play vs different common mids.


This girl is out of your league, so play defensively and ask for jungler help.


If you take Urgot first and they take Anivia you can start laughing in chat.
Anivia has #Nothing on you. Dodge Flash Frost (easy), then her Frostbite won't do anything. You can then proceed to kill her multiple times and get a giant level advantage, making her completely useless.


Don't let Dark Binding hit you. As long as you do that you'll be OK.


This guy has mediocre early game, crush him before he can do anything.


People think of Urgot as of an AD caster, which he partly is. So Kassaddin will think that if he silences you, he wins. Prove him wrong with AA =3.
