Hello Kids. This is my first ever Guide that i've done and it's going to be on: RYZE. Any positive and negative feedback i will appreacite. I've been a fan of Ryze for a long time because of the decision making you have to do in every situation with your spells. Ryze is known for spamming out his abilities but the thought that goes into each combo (In his rework) can take time to master. Once you master it, you realise how much utility Ryze really gives and how good he is in Solo queue and in Team Compositions. Anyway, let's get started.
PASSIVE - ARCANE MASTERY
"Ryze's maximum mana increases by 5% per 100 AP." - Very Similiar To Vladimir's Passive. This passive makes Items Like Seraph's Embrace or An Item that gives mana Good and Viable on Ryze.
Q - OVERLOAD
"PASSIVE: Ryze's other basic abilities reset Overload's cooldown and generate a Rune for 4 seconds, up to a maximum of 2.
"ACTIVE: Ryze unleashes a runic blast in the target direction, dealing magic damage to the first enemy struck and consuming all of his Runes.
If Ryze consumes 2 Runes, he shields himself from up to 60 - 200 (based on level) (+ 60% AP) (+ 3% bonus mana) damage for 2 seconds and gains bonus movement speed for the duration.."
"MAGIC DAMAGE: 60 / 85 / 110 / 135 / 160 / 185 (+ 45% AP) (+ 3% bonus mana)"
- I Level up and max this ability First because it gives that extra bit of damage and poke during the laning Phase. It's a simple skill but has scalings that scale very well. It scales with his mana meaning that later into the game His Q Will deal LOADS of damage.
W - RUNE PRISON
"ACTIVE: Ryze instantly deals magic damage and Root icon roots the target enemy for 1 second."
"MAGIC DAMAGE: 80 / 100 / 120 / 140 / 160 (+ 20% AP) (+ 1% bonus mana)"
- This is a very simple ability. Probably the most useless spell in his Kit. It's good for locking down targets with E>W For the 2 Second Snare which can be cancer.
E - SPELL FLUX
"ACTIVE: Ryze hurls an orb of runic energy at the target enemy, dealing magic damage and marking them with Flux for 3 seconds, causing his next basic ability against them to consume the mark and gain bonus effects."
"MAGIC DAMAGE: 50 / 75 / 100 / 125 / 150 (+ 30% AP) (+ 2% bonus mana)"
R - REALM WARP
"ACTIVE: Ryze channels for 2 seconds, during which he opens a portal around him, and upon successfully completing the channel, he and all allies within the portal blink to the target location."
"Ryze can move around and cast spells during this channel, which can be interrupted by both Silence icon silencing and Root icon immobilizing effects."
Realm Warp can only be ranked up twice, with ranks available at levels 6 and 11. Instead, Overload has 6 ranks.
- A VERY Useful Ultimate, end of story. It can be used to get to lane faster, have a surpise gank, Roam, or Teleport your whole team to a location, or just go to safety. It brings immense amounts of utility. It can be only ranked up 2 times, so they made Overload make 6 ranks (Another reason to max it first, becuase having to max Q later on in to the game wouldnt be worth it).
NO ROD OF AGES?- Rod of ages was a core item on the Old Ryze, and it was actually pretty good. But on the new Ryze, it seems that Rylia's replaces ROA For a multitude of reason. First of, Ryze's damage in teamfights now is insane, unlike the old Ryze which used to be good at getting picks. With a E>E>Q Combo with the new ryze in a team fight will do immense amount of damage while bringing a massive slow to it. The second reason is that Ryze is a backline mage, so Rylia's gives HP to keep him tanky but also giving him massive utility in a teamfight. ROA are just delayed stats that affect only ryze, not the whole team. Some people might say that "ROA gives you mana and Rylias doesnt"- Seraphs embrace and possibly lost chapter make up for that. ROA is an ok item, im not saying it's bad, but it isn't a core item on Ryze for me.
It's a VERY GOOD AND USEFUL starting item on Ryze because it gives him that chunk of mana in lane that will help him spam more abilities. Also it builds into Tear of the goddess so You will probably won't run out of mana for a long time.
TOTAL BISCUIT OF REJUVENATION -
I prefer going this over Refillable Potions like most people would start because it gives you more of That mana sustain that Ryze Loves, and It will help you during the Laning Phase.
WARDING TOTEM -
Basic Starter, no reason why you wouldnt buy this. Gives you vision around that map.
EARLY ITEMSBOOTS OF SPEED -
Classic Early Item. But it if you have spare gold or want to build into either Lucidity Boots or Sorcerer's Shoes.
TEAR OF THE GODDES -
You know how Ryze spams his ablities? yeah me too. You gonna have to have this in the early game to not starve out of mana super quick. Buy this as soon as you have 750 gold.
NEEDLESSLY LARGE ROD -
You get this item early cause it gives a nice chunk of AP early and builts into most of the item you build on Ryze.
->ARCHANGEL'S STAFF -> SERAPH'S EMBRACE -
This Item is bread and butter to Ryze. What it does (If you don't know) Every time you cast an ability, you permanently increase your mana. Ryze spams out a lot of abilities so it's very easy for him to stack it. His passive gives him more Mana the more AP He has, And Seraph's Embraces' Passive gives him for Mana the More AP he has. PERFECT SYNERGY
RYLAI'S CRYSTAL SCEPTER -
Ryze's Rework gave him perfect synergy with his abilities and gave him more teamfight potential then he already has. The fact that he spams out abilities leaves the enemies with a constant slow. His E Cooldown later on in to the game with be so low that he after he finishes the combo his E will be up again, meaning that he will refresh the combo and have even more slow. This Item is great, Stick potential and Teamfight potential: GREAT!
BOOTS OF LUCIDITY -
These Boots give him 2 Stats That Ryze ADORES, And those are Movement Speed (MS) and Cooldown Reduction (CDR). Ryze works of his abilities and having CDR to spam it out more is great on him. Movement speed is also his favourite stat because it allows him to position him self propely for every ability, including his ultimate.
ZHONYA'S HOURGLASS -
This Item is Great on Ryze, it's very good. It can be used defensively, offensively (I'll get to how in a moment) and you can do a neat trick with it and Ryze's Ultimate. Defensively, meaning that if an assasin like Zed, Talon, Fizz try to jump on you and All in you, Hourglass can negate most of their damage. Offensively, meaning that if you want to Take over the enemy's backline and Ult on to thier ADC, you can pop Your Hourglass. After that, the tanks will run away cause theirs no real DPS Dealer on thier team and you will be safe. This is the kind of Playstyle Twisted Fate players have and it's not very good on Ryze, but heck if you want to try this out, go for it. Laslty, The neat trick that you can do with Hourglass is to pop your ultimate for it to land in a safe area, pop hourglass, and you will teleport to that location without being CC'd or Being killed. I would put this as Core but it seems that it's a very optional Item.
RABADONS DEATHCAP -
Rabadons Deathcap Screams Out "DAMAGE". Theres no reason why you wouldnt have this in your build unless your VERY behind. But this after the first few Items. This is a massive powerspike for Ryze and your E>Q will do even more damage.
VOID STAFF -
Void Staff is a good Item for Penetrating through opponents Magic Resist. It's an effective Item to get against People Who Stack Magic Resist (Which Is Rare unless you're Playin Galio) But also good against squishy Targets. Like Lethiality (Old Armour Penetration in Season 6), The more Lethiality you have, the more closer you are to dealing true damage to the target, and if you go full Lethiality and deal Physical damage to an ADC, you will deal true damage. This does apply to Magic penetration, but becuase you can get so much AP so easily, and you constatly Deal Damage (DPS), you dont need true damage.
HEXTECH PROTOBELT-01 -
This Item is Good for Multiple Single Target Damage and a small dash. The small dash can be used to get closer to an enemy and having an easier time to root someone. Other then that, it can give a bit of mana and HP but it's worth buying other Items.
- This Item is Good on Ryze, It gives EVERYTHING that Ryze needs, CDR, AP, MANA and MS. The passive is good cause it can maximise the Damage tha Ryze does but he doesnt have a direct synergy with it, so i would prefer buying this Item is you're an experienced Ryze player.
LUDENS ECHO -
This Item Is good But it doesnt out-class other items that are on this list. You already have enough Teamfight potential and wave clear in your Items and kit so Ludens wouldnt be too good. Buy this Item if You Team LACKS wave clear or Teamfight Potential,
Ryze obviously uses more abilities then AA's, so Sorcery is obvious.
DOUBLE EDGED SWORD -
It's better for ryze because it gives him extra damage, and because hes a backline and wont take damage because tanks will peel for him, meaning he has the Extra damage for free. The only thing has to do is to Survive the Laning phase.
