Me and several friends confirmed it once by all dressing up in suits and going to the mall and just walking around aimlessly.

You can get all styled up, but if you're just wearing a nice shirt you still -might- be a douchebag.
But if you're in a full on suit, you're a charming gentlemen, and automatically harmless. You can't be a douchebag, you're too dignified.
It's like a magic trick, except completely fabricated by the brain. Anybody's a nice, trustworthy guy if they're in a suit. Duh!
