ROA gives a **** ton of stats for the price. That and the bonus sustain makes it a wonderful item for most casters.

Rabadon's Deathcap's advantage is that it has synergies with any and all AP items you have and it doesn't take to time to reach its full potential. Rod of Ages advantages are that it gives health, mana, and AP which are always valuable for a caster and its cheap for what it does. Rabadon's Deathcap is disadvantaged because it is incredibly narrow in the sense that it only really improves damage and doesn't really improve survivability on its own. RoA's disadvantage is that it takes 10 minutes to reach its full potential so RoA is good to rush because it snowballs but Deathcap is just as good whenever you buy it (as long you have atleast 21.5 AP already).

Long story short, if you are going to build Rod of Ages and Rabadon's Deathcap, build Rod of Ages first. As far as a champion that doesn't want Rod of Ages (think Mordekaiser) is it a good idea to rush Deathcap? Probably not. Survivability and mobility are usually better early game.

^You fail.

Deathcap is less effective the less AP you have when you buy it..

Right but every item you buy afterward that has AP is more effective? Sure you don't get as much AP right off the bat as opposed buying it last but at the end of the day you get the same amount of AP. Anyway my point is that whenever you buy Deathcap it always has 140 AP and always increases your AP by 30%. I will agree that it isn't as cost effective if it is the only source of AP but I never rush it or build it before I have an item with AP.

I didn't mean to say that Deathcap is always good no matter what I just meant to say that it doesn't snowball as opposed to Rod of Ages. That's what I meant when I said "Deathcap is just as good whenever you buy it". I guess I should have said that Deathcap always has the same stats.

I guess I should have said that Deathcap always has the same stats.

And that's where you're WRONG.

More AP from items/runes=more AP from deathcap. Deathcap "grows" stronger as time progresses just like ROA. The only difference is that you don't have to buy deathcap right away for it to be stronger later on.

Deathcap itself always has the same stats. Its effectiveness increases the more AP items you have and that's where I agree with you. The stats on RoA literally change and it is locked in at 10 minutes to reach its full potential. That was the point I was trying to make. With basically any AP item in the game Rabadon's Deathcap provides the single largest net gain in AP at the time of purchase and then continues to get better if you buy more items. I don't consider Deathcap a snowballing item because that is like saying that Infinity Edge snowballs because its passive becomes more effective whenever you buy an AD item.

Deathcap should always be your first or second item on a caster.
