Worthless guides more visible than quality ones...

TL;DR -- MobaFire's guide-ranking system can place low-quality guides at the top due to "HIGH ELO" or "SP GUEST" tags, lowering the quality of the site overall.

Hey guys, PinSeventy here with little more than a gripe about the way MobaFire organizes their guides. I currently have the most popular Nunu & Willump jungle guide on the site, and I put a hell of a lot of work into it. (Feel free to check it out here!) I really enjoyed writing it and love the fact that my work is influencing the way thousands of people are playing League of Legends. My problem is that it will now lose views because SP GUEST and HIGH ELO guides (with much lower ratings) are more visible than my own. I wouldn't be that upset if the guides were good, but there is very little work put into either of them, and they would not be able to help a player new to the champion whatsoever (defeating a large purpose of the guide).

I'm assuming that the main way people come across my guide is by typing something like "Nunu jungle season 3" into Google. When that query is entered, the first guide that pops up is an expired one with a 68% approval rating. Obviously the user would then look to the right to the sidebar presented the four top guides for Nunu & Willump. For quite some time I was right there, easily located "Nunu Jungle - A Beast in the Bushes." But now luigidragon's and oj07's guides have booted me out. You can take a gander at their guides here (luigidragon's guide and oj07's guide), and you should quickly be able to tell the low-quality of both of them, especially when compared to mine. It is apparent to me that they really don't have the motivation that I did to make a quality guide. Let me mention that I have respect for their League play, anybody who can get to that tier has commitment to the game for sure. Hats of to them for their skill.

All I'm trying to say here is that it's really ridiculous that these low-quality guides are a lot easier to access than the higher quality guides that are available. I hope that changes to this system will be made soon, and people can go back to using MobaFire as intended: learning how to play a champion.

Thank you for your time and for reading this whole thing, I appreciate it.

Oh, and I did the Google thing because I thought the page needed more color, sorry if it bugged you :)

Tbh, I think luigidragon's guide is pretty detailed (pity it's a bit out of date, though). oj07's guide isn't really any good, imo.

And I don't get why you think your guide is soooooo good anyway. I glanced over it and didn't think it was particularly good anyway (wouldn't upvote it, would probably downvote it). Just get high Elo and then verify your account. Easy solution.

not sure if you're trying to adress a problem

or simply trying to advertize your guide...

This complaint has been brought up before. Maybe you'd like to read the above thread.

One of my suggestions was to have special guest/high elo guides next to the unranked guides, instead of on top of.

Yeah, I was worried that I wod get this kind of reaction. Thanks for your time though guys, and for the down votes to my guide. This wasn't meant to be an advertisement in anyway, I linked my own guide merely for comparison.

Have a good one,

Tbh. Luigidragon provides video guides which sum up so much more than a tl;dr super long beautiful guide.

So I can understand him being so visible.

There are a lot of guides that are listed as "featured" just because the user is high elo, but when you actually look at the guide it's pretty awful.

As a whole the entire system is ****ing ******ed. I get the point of it, but practically speaking i'd say it's been a pretty big failure, mainly because there's no monitoring and these garbage guides get to 'featured' status just based on the elo of the author rather than the actual quality of guide. Perhaps if you gave editor's or scouts the power to remove them from 'featured status' if they weren't good, or only made them 'featured' upon hitting something like 75% (or whatever number) then the system might work.

But ya I agree with you, for the most part the "high elo featured guides" has been a complete failure
