Introduction

... I'm Pants are Dragon, a CHALLENGER solo queue player, substitute jungler for team Reality Check Gaming in the MOBAFire Challenger Series and I'm the Jungler for Falafel Gaming. I've been playing since the release of Nocturne, my first champion was Teemo and I grew in love with his champion select quote ("Captain Teemo on duty!") and ultimately the game. I actually didn't make my name it was given to me by Riot! My old name was jlzzdragon and then Riot changed my name to this and I feel like I was trolled to oblivion, but at the same time I grew with great power, and from that day I knew I would be the very best!

For those interested, here's my summoner profile:

Nunu & Willump is a very god like counter jungler, he may not look like the best tank, or have the best ganks. BUT OH LORD when he's in your jungle you'll cry.

  4. Strong Baron/Dragon Control
  5. Turns ADC into GOD

Cons

  1. More of a support jungler, so later falls off as a main tank

... Greater Mark of Attack Speed
Greater Seal of Armor
Greater Glyph of Magic Resist
Greater Glyph of Cooldown Reduction
Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed

We take attack speed marks because we want faster jungle clears, and if we took magic penetration it wouldn't do a WHOLE lot as we auto attack half the time with a red buff.

Armor is pretty standard for seals. We take this for the reduced damage from the jungle, and of course it's natural resistant against AA's and towers and minions.

For blues I take some MR and leave the rest for cooldown reduction. I think that 5% CDR is better than 8 MR. More spell casting seems much better than 8 MR and I take this on most junglers. Just a personal choice.

I take movement speed quints because this will help you stay all over the map. Gets you to each camp faster, gets you to each lane faster, gets you in and out of the enemy jungle for faster counter jungling. I love MS quints because the faster I get to each lane, the more I will be ganking or at least doing something important.

Masteries

Utility:

This tree is 0/9/21 and I get it mainly for the great movement speed buffs, but everything else that this tree provides is great too! Go this route for the early game mobility and dominance. The experience is also decent, as we can get to our levels faster than the other jungler. The spell vamp will proc on our Consume and we will get a tad more HP then usual.

Basically the only things we need from the defensive masteries are the minion reduced damage and the HP is good too, you'll see a slight difference between the minion reduced damage and not having it.

The utility tree offers a lot for a jungler who's already super powerful on creeps, so we can go this tree instead of the usual 0/21/9.

Items

Starting:

x2 sight ward

We get a Sight Ward as Nunu & Willump already has some great sustain in him and we can use this ward to spot out the enemy jungler, also start warding totem and get sweeping lens mid game.

Right after you are going to want to rush Mobility Boots, the Spirit Stone doesn't apply the 10% increase to damage with Consume, so we'll just get the mobility we need to harass the other jungler.

Early Game

Once you have this set, you'll be a big battering ram and can dive champions in a 2v1 situation for a pretty long time.

People will try to kill you but they will lack the items to kill you by the time you reach this.

Alternatively, instead of Spirit of the Ancient Golem you can go Spirit of the Spectral Wraith, this increases your Consume heal to give an extra 200 HP, this is really good early game, but later it will fall off. Spirit of the Ancient Golem is good throughout the whole game, since it gives tenacity, 500 HP and 10% cdr.

Middle Game

+ or +

Once you get Locket of the Iron Solari, you and your team will be real strong, and by the time you have this the enemy jungler should have like a emblem of valor.

Afterwards, you can get a Randuin's Omen this item is the best against AD since it reduces attack speed, which cuts DPS.

Also get Sweeping Lens as you are going to try to clear wards around objectives.
Late Game:

Once you have these items, all you need is Warmog's Armor and you're going to be a hard wall to knock down.

Other items to consider:

Ninja Tabi I go if the AD seems strong, otherwise fast rush Mobility Boots.

Frozen Heart this item is real strong for those dragons and barons, and in general more Ice Blast and Consume. Take this if you feel like doing baron soon!

Spirit Visage this item will help your Consume along with some magic resist, the magic resist item for frozen heart in a way. UPDATE: SPIRIT VISAGE has got a huge buff, with this in mind take this as a consideration.

Spirit of the Spectral Wraith this item increases your Consume health gain by 250 HP, really good early game. But will fall off late game as you don't use Consume much in a team fight. Early game it's really good though.

Banshee's Veil this item will help you pull off a full ultimate easier as it blocks one spell. Although the only stats you'll be looking at are 400 health and the spell shield, effectively your buying a giant's belt + a spell shield for 2520g, your call on buying it though. UPDATE: This item is now good, scratch what I said you can get this or spirit visage for Magic Resist.

Abyssal Mask I would only get this item if we had a lot of AP damage and no one else is going this item, it'll help your allies damage along with your damage.

Sunfire Aegis get this item if you want some offensive power, this is the only item that you should get as it gives high defensive stats along with AoE burn damage.

Locket of the Iron Solari this item is also an alternative for armor and is more suited for the support role as it gives a shield to your whole team, and since your positioning is by your team its pretty viable.

Shurelya's Battlesong this item would be good on Nunu since he's a support jungler essentially, the only flaw is that you'll be missing out on other defensive stats.

Twin Shadows this could be what Nunu needs to initiate, I'd only get this if we lack some initiator.

Mikael's Blessing this item is really good for what it does, giving a free Cleanse on any of your team mates while giving back some HP, although the reason it's rarely bought on supports is because of how expensive it is but you could go for it since you'll have some money in your pocket.

Skill Sequence

Max Consume first, as we will be counter jungling the majority of the time, but sometimes if I am about to gank a lane, I will put a point in Ice Blast for more damage. It usually depends on my situation on what I prioritize on, Consume or Ice Blast

Then we max Ice Blast right after, since the nerfs hit Blood Boil a bit hard. So it's base level 1 is decent. And Ice Blast has like a +45 base damage per level.

Then we can max out Blood Boil, which will make our ADC insanely good late game.

Spells

Visionary (Passive)

After 5 autoattacks, Nunu's next spell will have no mana cost. Not really as useless as you think but you should time out your spells when this is about to be up to save some mana, preferably when you use Consume or Ice Blast.

Consume

Consume it heals you 250 HP, and gives you buffs from certain creeps of the jungle. Golem gives 10% increase to his hp, making him say at 1k HP to 1.1k HP which is really good. Also at rank 5 [[consume] it does 1k damage to minions, so you can combine it with your smite for a 2k damage to dragon/baron at level 18.

Blood Boil

Blood Boil gives you move speed and attack speed. This will give you and someone else mobility and more auto attacks, when used in early game it creates you to be a mobility monster and with red buff can cause some ganks to be insane.

Ice Blast

Ice Blast is the opposite of Blood Boil which reduces mobility and less auto attacks on the enemy, this is used to chase down people and to peel off enemy divers on your carry. Essentialy is a really good support spell which lasts 3 seconds.

Absolute Zero

Absolute Zero is a really big damage ultimate when fully chained. But most of the time you won't get it fully off, also it's a really good peel too since it slows enemies and there attack speed. It also basically allows the enemy team to blow there hard CC on you.
A tip when using it is when you use the ultimate in a bush, the enemy can't see any effects of it until they enter the bush. The only thing they can feel is the slow, use this to your advantage :).

Also use this skill on any potential divers on your team like Tryndamere or Irelia (hopefully someone with attack speed, Absolute Zero will slow down any pursuers to your carry and you can make a giant zone to keep them at bay. So you don't even have to ultimate the whole enemy team, you can even use it as a peel.

Early Game

I feel that Nunu is a strong counter jungler, and a ganker after awhile as if he comes to a lane, he'll just auto attack and snowball people. And of course if you deprived the enemy jungler, your ganks will be mighty stronger and he'll make the other jungler deprived.

Usually when I jungle Nunu, I always have the mentality of eating the enemy's jungle like mad. So when he goes to gank and it doesn't come out successful, he's going to come back with an empty plate for dinner.

Always keep tabs on your blue buff/red buff and the enemy's blue buff/red buff, as you want full control over these buffs. Tell your lanes to shove and come help when you invade the big buffs or if you think the enemy jungler is away you don't need them. But just in case tell them to shove and look for you.

When to do Dragon
  1. Bot Lane is down. Reason: When doing dragon, it would be a 4v2 if they try to contest it.
  2. You see bot lane recall and mid and bot lane help.
  3. Mid laner down. Reason: Mid is basically worth 1.5x of an ADC early game, because of the level advantage, so you have a clear advantage at dragon.
  4. You feel confident on doing it. Reason: You feel that the enemy team won't contest, feeling more powerful etc.
  5. Nunu can solo it by level 7 or 9
  6. You should always win a smite war, as you have a 500-1000 Consume + Smite.
  7. Jungler is top ganking your top lane, well guess what you have 4 mid-bot and they have 3 people so you can start doing dragon, just tell your lanes to shove and to help you do it.
  8. It's vision warded, that means the enemy will not know if your doing it or not.
You basically look at team advantages in numbers and say we can win if they want to contest this.

Ok if they do contest and come to you, and you know it's a clear advantage for your team, time for you to turn and go hunting, tell your team to turn, and you will win.

Mid Game

Mid game you should have Spirit of the Ancient Golem and Mobility Boots, and maybe an Aegis of the Legion, and you'll be pretty tank as a support jungler.

Time for you to lead your team to push towers, maintain control over dragon/baron and win. So always have a Vision Ward on dragon. And if you feel real confident, do it on baron and try to secure it and estimate whether you should do baron or not.

Nunu has really good potential on baron, as he does a pretty good dose of damage to it and has sustain throughout the fight to baron. He also cannot get outsmited and should really prioritize this objective if he can. Try looking for potential members to do it if you can, as basically what you'll need to analyze in your team is 2 DPS members. (i.e Tryndamere Jayce or ADC). Yes you can 3 man baron if you want to sneak it.

This is where also the best team fights come alive, since everyone is around level 13 and multiple variables happen instead of late game where it's peel for carries.

Assassinating the enemy Carries

Do this when your carries are behind their carries, although this isn't as potent with nunu as he is a support jungler and doesn't have much damage but only his Ice Blast, but in some situations you can get there carry in a bad spot with some help.
  1. Coordinate with your assassin/diver (zed/diana/malphite/shen)
  2. Ask if you are going for the ADC or APC
  3. If you guys do not focus the same target she will live that is why you'll need coordination
After you have initiated analyze the situation.
  1. Target dead? Alright help your carries and make sure they live!
  2. Target still not dead and you and your Assassin friend used all your cooldowns and have no form of gap closer to get to him? RETREAT to your team and peel!

PROTECTING YOUR CARRY

Do this when your carries are ahead of enemy carries, and since Nunu & Willump is a support jungler, he should be helping your ADC most of the time even if they are behind.
  1. Anyone who is on your carry, use all neccessary cooldowns to assist in killing the anti-carry, Ice Blast will do the trick most of the time and Absolute Zero will be a heavier peel.
  2. Do not dive straight into there back line, stay as a meat shield for your carries and be in front of them and Ice Blast whoever
WHY NOT TO JUST SOMETIMES GO STRAIGHT FOR THE CARRIES?

I can't emphasize this more, I see this happen in lower ELO a lot. Someone will just go rampage on the enemy carries and die. He will then say "I just tanked their whole team and died, how did you guys not win?" Well the other team just raped your carries because you weren't protecting him and instead tried to 1v1 their carries (or often times 1v4 etc). That's why you need coordination with someone to assassinate them, like if you see that Maokai going in on there carry and ignoring the Irelia on your carries. He shouldn't be since Maokai does 0 damage while Irelia has a lot of damage at her disposal and Maokai is a suited peeler with his kit.

TIPS/STRATEGIES FOR WHEN YOUR BEHIND:
  1. Turtle and farm. (Defend your towers, stay around your towers)
  2. Wait until other team throws (baron attempt, tower dive, split pushing too far)
TIPS/STRATEGIES FOR WHEN YOUR AHEAD:
  1. Keeping timers on dragon, baron and when they are up. Always getting them when they respawn
  2. Group and do something, get oracles and get baron control or group and get baron.
  3. Pink baron, and try to do it (not solo it, get some DPS to help you).
  4. My cheese tactic, send top lane bot and make him push really hard so the enemy team tries to kill him and let your team stick around baron so you can get it.

Late Game

Baron is essential this point in the game, so always have a ward on it or pink it whatever you can do to have some security over it. This is also the point where 1 team fight or baron can change everything. If played wrong you could lose the game.

You also will want to tell your team to group and push/defend and not to get picked off as Baron is easier to do late game with the amounts of items that everyone has.

Having your ADC Blood Boil will increase his kiting ability along with his DPS. He will be more of a threat than the other ADC with you along.

Alright, so your carries are now doing the real damage, and now you as a main tank HAVE NO damage since you didn't build damage. You now have to protect them.

You should have a Randuin's Omen or a Frozen Heart at this time as the enemy ADC should have a Bloodthirster/ Infinity Edge + Phantom Dancer and will do tons of damage. Attack Speed reduction will cut an ADC's DPS massively, and you got one of the 2 items along with your ice ball, although it's really hard to even Ice Blast the enemy carry with the front line covering for her (unless they bad).

REMEMBER IF YOU ACE THEM, TELL YOUR TEAM NOT TO RECALL AND END IT (Maybe?). Death timers are extremely long at late game point and gives a team an ability to end it. Or atleast push get towers more gold for yourself, get a lead and get stronger for the next team fight.

Creeping / Jungling / Counter Jungling

So, basically this guide will emphasis highly on counter Jungling.

I do this 80% of the time, and I run to the enemy red and use a sight ward to ward it. I don't do the flash over wall and Q+Smite blue to the enemy jungler like other people do, I do my own ****. Anyways, if they do their red, and since you're starting at your blue just do a normal route to your red buff. At this point you can look for over extending lanes for free ganks.

If he started at his blue, meet him at his red and when he starts to do it, come in at 1000 hp on the red buff and Consume + Smite it. You can try to harass him but be careful as his allies will reach you before your allies do.

After doing all this, basically if you know where the other jungler is and the 1st time he ganks. It's good game, get in his jungle and start eating every creep and always leave the mini creeps behind.

For golems, give a few auto attacks and consume the big golem and leave. For the wraiths, just kill the big wraith and get out. For the wolves, kill the big wolf, eat it and get out.

Anyways I basically invade when the enemy jungler is gone for the 1st time (i.e ganking a lane) as I could be interrupted by his allies early if I invade him while hes around level 1-3.

I also keep track of the timers for his red buff/blue buff (or try to) I know I'm stronger because i'll be more levels than him and stronger with the minion buffs that Consume gives me. So I give 5 ****s if his allies try to help him and get his buffs, obviously there are some points were I back out if his allies come and its a 1v3 and my allies didn't follow. Also remember buff times are every 5 minutes.

I also usually stick in his red side of the jungle since there are golems and wraiths for me to steal.

Anyways if you did all the above steps correct you should be level 9 when he's level 7.

Nunu has strong monster control and should be utilized early game.

Once you feel dominant over the enemy jungler, you basically now have free ganks, if he tries to gank someone and you come its 2 kills for you.

Dragon/Baron

Dragon is every 6 minutes

Baron is every 7 minutes

These times will help you on keeping it down.

Anyways, here are some good tips when to dragon as Nunu & Willump

Bot Lane is down. Reason: When doing dragon, it would be a 4v2 if they try to contest it.
You see bot lane recall and mid and bot lane help.

Mid laner down. Reason: Mid is basically worth 1.5x of an ADC early game, because of the level advantage. So you have a clear advantage at dragon.

You feel confident on doing it. Reason: You feel that the enemy team won't contest, you can out smite an enemy jungler if he tries.

You can solo it since you have a lot of damage output. Also with blue buff it becomes more of a piece of cake.

Team Fights

What is your role? The tank, peeler, and support.

The tank, is the one who soaks in all the damage and still survives it all.

The peeler, is the one who crowd controls and attacks anyone on his carries and stays with them.

The support, is the one who gives buffs to allies.

What do you do with your skills?

Consume anything that is around, an extra 250 HP in a team fight sure why not.

Blood Boil your ADC always. Keep that buff on him or if you have another hyper carry like Tryndamere him too, whoever is stronger.

Ice Blast anyone on your ADC, if no one is on your ADC then anyone in the front but preferably someone who auto attacks, and if you can ice ball the enemy ADC go for it. But if he's way in the back. Better just help your team out and peel for whoever is having trouble.

Absolute Zero when you can hit 2+3 more people with your ultimate, and when people try to dive your carries thats also a sign to use your ultimate. They'll probably blow most of there hard crowd control on you so you won't pull the full ultimate off. A smart team will leave atleast 1 hard crowd control for Nunu & Willump.

What positioning should you have?

You should always stick besides your ADC and keep him alive, and of course being somewhat in the front line, since you are main tank. Basically be a meat shield (a wall) for him and block every skill shot that may hit him.

What if my HP is low?

Stay in the back, don't ditch the team until the fight is way over. Now stay out of range of the enemy and just keep Ice Blast on someone when you can and run away while Blood Boil your ADC. Consume Anything around if you can. A lot of people at lower ELO don't know what to do when they are at low HP. This comes with more experience, but you basically just need to find a way to stick around without being on the radar of the other team. Stick around and help out as much as you can if they can't 1 shot!!!

Conclusion

Nunu & Willump is a very hungry champion and excels at early game, causing the other team to have no late game.
