Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
Elise is what I coined as "ability support"
Ability supports are supports who are: AP based, can deal tons of zoning and damage in the laning phase, Crowd Control and provide MUCH MORE damage to the enemy ADC in clash.
Compared to the usual supports, they are squishy and provides less defensive abilities or none at all.
She isn't widely accepted of her capabilities of a support yet, and the community won't take it lightly.
So take precaution because 90% of the time, people will think you are troll gaming.
This guide is newbie-friendly and is recommended for those who want to try her capabilities as a support with tips on how to play her without risking the victory of your team.
Abbreviations throughout this guide.
AP = Ability Power
AD = Attack Damage
GPS = Gold Per Second
CDR = Cooldown Reduction
HP = Health or Health Points
MR- Magic Resist
CS = Creep Score
ADR= Attack Damage Range
ADC= Attack Damage Carry
PROS AND CONS
*High Damage Output
*Maximum zoning in laning phase.
*Spiderlings in Spiderform provide a great shield to Blitzcrank-pull.
*Different skillset that you can utilize in bottom lane.
*Rappel escape tool
*3-second ward (not that good, but saves your *** a lot of times, it's a better option than to facecheck)
*Elise's mana pool is sufficient enough for spamming.
*People will think you are trolling since support Elise is not that famous.
*Very Squishy and once the enemy silences you, you're pretty much dead.
*Small defensive skills to save your ADR from cc and damage.
*Hard to perform the combo if you miss you Cocoon skillshot.
magic penetration marks are for harassing and for slipping damage to those who have a bit of magic resist.
Your armor seals are for your survivability against enemy basic attack or damage based-skills in bottom lane.
Your scaling ability power glyphs are for keeping up with the destruction through out the game.
Your GPS quintessences are for your gold income as you won't be taking creeps from your adr, and making use of your time in bottom lane as you will just babysit the ADR and try to zone out the enemies.
These are the best runes you can put on Support Elise , for they will maximize your potential in bottom lane.
But, I will put some substitutes for my runes. The substitutes aren't the best, but they will do.
You may be only trying out "Support Elise" so I included these substitutions for my primary guides.
I substitute Armor marks, because they make you a little bit more tanky in bottom lane.
I substitute GPS seals, because a little more gold can never hurt and being the support, you really need it for wards.
I substitute Magic Resist per lvl, this will make you a bit tanky against AP's in late game.
I substitute Ability power for this will help you deal a lot more damage in early bottom laning phase, and it will increase your poking potential.
Like I said, they aren't the best. But they will do.
The point in your offensive mastery tree
is to buff up your Exhaust or Ignite.
13 points in the defensive mastery tree for increasing your sustain and survivability in early laning phase against the enemy duos at bot.
16 points in the utility mastery tree for the mana regen, summoner spell cooldown, gold per second, Biscuiteer and the extra 60-second ward Explorer Ward
Q- Neurotoxin / Venomous Bite is your primary damage tool and deals high damage to enemies the higher hp they have and if in spider form, hurts more the lower hp they have. Max this first.
W- Volatile Spiderling / Skittering Frenzy is your harass(human),lifesteal or attack speed (spider) tool. Max this 2nd.
E- Cocoon / Rappel is your stun(human) / escape tool or your main skill to snare the enemy adr(spider). Leveling it up only lowers the cooldown. Max this last.
R- Spider Form / Human Form should be taken every time you have the chance as it makes your spider form stronger. Max this 3rd.
Philosopher's Stone Philosopher's Stone is a must for every support, and that includes Elise too. The GPS you can harvest and the hp/mana regeneration for survivability makes this one of the best early game items in the league.
Kage's Lucky Pick Kage's Lucky Pick is the early item that will provide your ability power. It could be upgraded to 4 useful items.
Ruby Sightstone is a must for every game and should be rushed as soon as possible, it is efficient and is very handy if the enemy support is carrying around vision wards.
Morellonomicon is the core item of support Elise, it gives you ap, mana regen and cdr. Not only that, the "Grievious wound" passive also denies half the heal and lifesteal/spellvamp the enemy you are firing on (if you or your team manages to get it below 40% health)
Locket of the Iron Solari is crucial and important as it benefits your team and yourself a lot. This item is a must every game.
Sorcerer's shoes is the one I recommend buying on Elise, she has the extra Magic penetration to deal more damage in poking and harassing.Here are the situations that can affect your build and the order of items which you can react on:
Situation 1: Everything is faring well and your team has the upper hand.
Items: Morellonomicon should be bought in this situation followed by Twin Shadows and Locket of the Iron Solari.
Why: Since your team is faring well anyway, I suggest building up Ability power, and some tankiness.
Situation 2: Enemy AP carry/carries are dominating.
Items: Twin Shadows followed by Locket of the Iron Solari, Morellonomicon. Follow up with either defensive items or if competition has waned down a bit, go with AP items.
Why: Twin Shadows has AP and magic resistance, as well as a very good active (2 slow-inflicting wraiths), Abyssal Scepter is also a great alternative since it gives magic resist and ability power.
Situation 3: Enemy Ad carry/carries are dominating.
Items: Go with Locket of the Iron Solari then follow it up with Frozen Heart and Morellonomicon.
Why: Locket of the Iron Solari is a very good team item, it has armor, health and a shield active and compared to other defensive items, it is cheap (1850). Frozen Heart gives you mana, cdr and armor, as well as an aura that lowers nearby enemies attack speed.
MAIN SUMMONER SPELLS
Flash- Out of all summoner spells I will list down here, Flash is a must for this champion. It's a beautiful and handy escape tool when your Rappel is on cooldown or has no targets and for chasing down low-hp enemy champions.
Exhaust- This is what I usually take as support elise as you need it to disable the enemy ad's.
VIABLE SUMMONER SPELLS/SUBSTITUTE FOR EXHAUST
Ignite- For the pesky heals that rain down on the enemy adr. Also good for finishing off enemies when your ADR can't..
Teleport- For those who want map mobility.
Laning and Gameplay
LANING PHASE/EARLY GAME
Be aggressive by poking and zoning out the enemy duos at bottom lane (DO NOT CS). If you manage to successfully hit your E on either one of them, proceed to Q-W-R-E-W-Q. This combo can deal tons of damage to squishy carries or supports. This will also zone them out to towerhugging.
If you're ADR is good as you are, you will have a hug chance of dominating bottom lane.
Remember, be aggressive but not to the point where you are endangering your ADR and yourself.
(This is the most practical way of doing a combo using Elise, this is how you will harass the enemy during the laning phase. A combo of this would at least leave them half health or below.)
P.S.- When taking early Dragon, you can tank the Dragon by hitting it upfront using your spiderform, and let your spiderlings tank all the damage.
(Each Spiderling can tank 2 attacks from the Dragon.)
Always use spider form when warding alone or going back to your lane, you move much faster than in human form.
MID GAME-LATE GAME
Around this time, people will be moving around the map. SO it is very crucial to ward near the Dragon's lair and around Baron. (Baron is usually taken around 25-40 minutes in the game, but you can never be too sure.) Be careful when moving around the map, be map aware.
When the 2 enemy teams are getting ready for a clash, never be afraid to spam your W Volatile Spiderling / Skittering Frenzy and if you can, Constant Q's Neurotoxin / Venomous Bite can deal a lot of damage.
Once the clash has been initiated, Cocoon/E Cocoon / Rappel the first one who gets near your ADR while constantly throwing out Q/W and once you have the enemy adr on your sights proceed to use the combo I listed above. This will force the enemy ADR to retreat or enemies will try to help the ADR leaving their backs open for your team. BE WARY OF THE ENEMY SUPPORT. If they are good, They CAN and WILL try to stop you. Find a good opening to Rappel on the enemy ADR. (If the enemy ADR isn't sighted or is too far away, don't be picky. Jump on the AP Carry or anybody you can jump on.)
Here, you could see in my (mediocre) video how you could quickly turn the tide of battle if you know what you are doing, (or if the Leona didn't try to run away) never hesitate to secure the kill if you know your ADR cannot finish the job. As I try to towerdive the Miss Fortune and escape, you could see my spiderlings tanking the turret for me (Mama Love <3).
Oh by the way, in the end, we did kill the Orianna, but it was more of enemy stupidity than pro skills.
Wards and where to place them.
Sight Wards and Vision Wards are your bestfriends.
Sometimes 3 wards from the Ruby Sightstone isn't enough to cover vital entrances and exit points in your map, which means you need to buy wards to cover those areas.
Never think it is a waste of gold to buy wards, they CAN and WILL save lives.
It is also Garen-approved.
"So don't think twice. Just buy buy buy~" -Garen
But then again, buying wards and not knowing where to put them can be a serious problem.
Here is an image of where wards should be placed at.
Entrances to your jungle should be warded at all times, same goes for Baron and Dragon.
Questions and Answers
1. Q-What are the qualifications to use Support Elise in a game?
A- Your Mid laner is either an AD champ bruiser (Talon,Kha'zix,Pantheon,etc.etc.) or your AP is not an assassin-type (Morgana,Heimerdinger, Viktor etc.etc.)
2. Q- What makes Elise support special?
A- She is a support who builds almost 90% ap who only takes an exception to buying wards and protecting the adr in laning phase, she manages a small amount of ap-support related items (Shard of True Ice, Morellonomicon,Twin Shadows and the non ap-based Shurelya's Reverie. She can provide damage like an ap carry and at the same time focuses 90% on keeping the adr safe like hindering the enemy from reaching up to the adr and dealing lots of damage.
3.Q- Is it worth playing her?
A- If you are trying out new builds, and looking for a way to innovate champions, then you are welcome to build her as a support, it is a very fun and rewarding experience, it takes time to master her as you just don't go in and deal as much damage, you also have to keep an eye out on your adr.
Elise Support is a very fun character to use, feel free to improvise the way you build your support Elise to your own accord, just do not forget that being the support, you have an obligation to protect the ADR and the team, buy items that could affect and help the team and yourself.
Enjoy yourself in the league, summoner. :)
