What is truly Akshan's thing?
SPOILER
When explaining what Akshan does to your new duo partner, you’ll find yourself saying things like…
‘Think of me like a:
- Tristana but I swing around with a grappling hook instead of jumping. (btw spoiler: many supports that are good with Tristana go well with Akshan). And just like Tristana’s jump, my swing resets on takedowns, but my swing does way more damage.
- Vayne where I can stack a passive 3 times on a target to do extra damage, but it also gives Akshan a shield and unlike Vayne these stacks can be applied with abilities too, not just auto attacks!
- Twitch when I’m level 3, but I can stay stealthed forever, and see trails like Warwick but towards people that if I take them down, I get extra money and I rez a team mate… and
- Yadi Yadi Yada’
His kit is so diverse that some people are convinced that he can even be a jungler, while I secretly believe he can be an excellent support too (hit me up on discord if you want to explore that with me! See the “About the Author” section for my contact info)
You won’t even realize it and you’ll be a million mastery points in, simply because you'll never get tired of playing him, because every game is different. There is always a way you can make a difference, no matter how far behind you are.
Speaking of a million mastery points, someone pointed out to me that I was almost there. And to highlight this achievement, I’ll be organising another Stay tuned : D
ADC Builds
Use this questionaire to help you determine which style to play between Dark Harvest build and Precision build below.
Ability Sequences
ABILITY SEQUENCE
At the beginning of the game you’ll need to hold off picking an ability. Run mid to your fans that are just waiting to throw 400g at you just to see your Heroic Swing spiderman-batman moves at them (sometimes even more if you really impress them).
If nobody shows up, take a moment and analyse your lane Bot. A lot of ex-Mid laner Akshans prefer to start with the Avengerang, and it might be what you need bot. But most of the time, its better to gamble on the Heroic Swing,
Why? You have a partner. If they slightly throw off the enemy long enough for you to land an auto attack… feel free to swing around the rosey!
Whichever you show off first, you must flaunt the other one next.
Level 3 will most likely be Going Rogue … into your own matchup. Similarly to a Twitch ganking his own lane.
But better.
Since your duo will initiate and if they soak up all the damage, you’ll reward them with a very good reincarnation.
After that, it really depends on the match up, and how the game evolves.
Favor one of the following but just keep in mind that…

But Why ADC?
Bot lane is where the party is at! Two people for you to maximize the Heroic Swing resets, which will really help promote the Swing event happening bot. Mid and Jungle will feel the need to witness your Swing moves, but in the end, you decide if you want to show off with ‘and another one’ resets, or just grapple to safety. Either way, the haters either die or waste time, while your crew is Swinging it! You’ll be like…‘Don’t mean a thing if you aint got that swing’ (save this song for your warm up games!) |
......................................................................................................................................................................................................
And if for some reason the enemy kills your party partner, it will be a short-lived downer since Akshan specialty is to be the life of the party, and this is easily done Bot Lane by reviving your partner or whoever came Bot to gank. Many people don’t know that you get bonus money when you revive someone! One of Akshan’s lines is ‘Some people don’t know how to pay with their lives’ so fix that and make sure your team knows that ‘trading kills’ is an excellent strategy. Everyone on your team will happily pay the entrance fee to the party happening at Bot Lane and you’ll be rich thanks to the never ending festivities! |
......................................................................................................................................................................................................
Bot is a long lane, which empowers your grappling hook reach even more, and gives you enough space to secure multiple kills before they can reach the ‘so-called’ safely of their tower. The fact that bot is a long lane is a good offensive strategy, but it is also not an issue for Akshan since you can also use the grapple to retreat, or even use the stealth if you need to juke instead. You’ll find yourself using the grapple if it's only one person ganking, and the stealth if there are more. (examples coming soon) Remember, each failed gank on you, means other lanes are getting ahead. |
......................................................................................................................................................................................................
Akshan can easily 1v1 most ADCs, so keep an eye out for when the support goes to warding, those few seconds are usually enough to outright kill the ADC or get them low enough for your party buddy to finish them. ‘What? You want the support to get a kill?’ Yes. You want to kill the ADC asap, to reset Heroic Swing so that you can secure a second kill for the team. Often supports will try to ‘give you the kill’ which will take painfully long extra seconds to do, during which the enemy ADC will have time to damage you low enough that it will be too risky to try to kill their support afterwards. Make sure to let your support know that the strategy is to kill quickly to maximize Heroic Swing resets. |

Broken Champ |
Bot lane is not accustomed to having an Akshan ADC, which means they have little practice vs your kit. They don’t know your win conditions and they most likely won’t see your Twitch-like strategy at lvl 3. You’ll capitalize on their rough learning curve and set yourself up to snowball. By the time you’re level 4, the bot lane has already started to whine about how Akshan is broken, but their team might not believe them, and just think that bot lane are noobs, that's when it's time to pay mid or jg a visit >:) |
......................................................................................................................................................................................................
Most of the time you will upgrade Going Rogue at level 3. Why?
The key with Going Rogue is to set a baseline, then be chaotic about it, this will install paranoia on the enemy team, which will cause them to often hesitate when seeing a kill. |
......................................................................................................................................................................................................
You will be aggressive in your lane, maybe even cause your lane to be pushed, to lure the enemy jungler to come and waste time.
If that doesn’t happen, roam mid, get them to whine about Bot Lane not calling out MIAs (missing in action).
Even better, now that you roamed, the enemy support will feel like they must roam too, leaving their ADC an easy prey to your rogue skills.
Now the enemy ADC will also whine... then the support will blame the jungler for failing ganks…
Pros and... More Pros !
No ‘’Cons’’. Akshan’s kit is so complex, that he has an answer to everything, especially as an ADC.
Some people think that Akshan can be easily shut down by focusing him.
NOPE
The above were points that showed how Akshan really thrives as an ADC, while the following are additional points why Akshan is META. This is knowledge that I acquired through my 1M+ Mastery Points, which I will share with you to fast track your ascension.
Patch 12.10 Durability Update has greatly improved Akshan survivability when getting focused. ‘The ‘Rough Lane Matchups’ described in the section after this one, aren’t so tough anymore. Combos that would have locked you down pre-12.10, no longer do since you can now survive long enough to place yourself to escape with Heroic Swing. Akshan may have been hurt as a mid assassin, but really thrives with this patch as an ADC!
Shaco LeBlanc Wukong Neeko
Evelynn, Shaco, Twitch, Teemo, Rengar, Kha’Zix, etc, etc
Which is pretty much any comp lol. But..
Finally, as an ADC main you are no longer at the mercy of fed assassins!!! Because...
Make sure you stay stealthed near the person that keeps getting killed so that you avenge them a few times, leading the enemy to start complaining that their star assassin is throwing the game, but in reality, you’re just doing what Akshan does best.
This is especially convincing if you tell your bait to go kill wards. Stay close, but not beside them so you don’t end up getting caught in the crossfire. Then once the assassin exhausts their combo on your ‘’best bait for life’’, you kill the Scoundrel, reviving your partner in crime, probably giving you Shut Down money.
But that's not the point, the important part is that you now outnumber the enemy for an objective. If you can pull that off with a Quinn, Twisted Fate , or any other Global like champions that can get back into battle quick because of inherited ability or Teleport, even better! If there are HexTech Portal, just do it with the most convincing bait : D .

NOPE
......................................................................................................................................................................................................
ADC players are used to being focused and will make Akshan survive longer with their spidey senses. |
......................................................................................................................................................................................................
ADCs have a dedicated player whose goal is to keep them alive. During the early laning phase, you’ll train your support to peel and die for you. They will learn your dancing style, become truely synced, and will gladly bow down for you and sacrifice themselves so that you can do you. Supports are typically hard wired to keep their ADC alive. So let's just work with it : D. |
......................................................................................................................................................................................................
If having a dedicated support isn’t enough, its time to go rogue! There are multiple ways to abuse this ability if you feel like you are being focused

Hextech Drake Portals
The Hextech drakes transforms the map by adding portals to it. These portals are very strong combined with Akshan’s ability to revive people because now anybody can quickly get in the action once revived! |
So are the changes made on Teleport
In patch V10.19 Teleport cooldown got reduced from 360s to 240s then in V12.1 can go as low as 210s. This is huge for a team that has an Akshan. One fight where people are revived with a Teleport will snowball the game to victory! |
Strong Pre 1m30s
|
Heroic Swing can reset on takedowns, also does a lot of damage, and gives you mobility. This makes it a no brainer first ability to claim First Blood. Race to the mid lane bottom bush, wait there to see if you get an eazy 1v1 full Heroic Swing easy 400g! If not that, check out these many other possibilities can happen, but no matter what, you must not waste your first minute and a half of the game, at the very least you should get your enemy to use up a summoner spell and if you choose to run Dark Harvest, atleast get a stack. |
Leaves No Retreat No Safe Place
Many people will think that its the stealth from Going Rogue that makes it impossible to get away from an Akshan but what if people are hiding under towers? Or retreating into the base? That’s when you break their spirits with Heroic Swing huge gap closer and resets and you’ll be like: People without grappling hooks, what are they thinking?! This is what you should expect doing all the time after this guide! |
Good Trade Harassment
|
Constantly look at the cooldown of your Dirty Fighting passif that triggers a shield, and when its up:
|
VS Skill Shot Spammers
Whenever Akshan auto attacks, he fires an additional shot, but you can cancel that shot, and when you do, you gain bonus movement speed. So if you end up laning vs one of those annoying Xerath support like champs, the idea here is just to always auto with one shot, and dance around unpredictably. |
Destroying Open Inhibitors
Askshan can stay stealthed as long as he is near a wall, which means that you can stealth all the way to open inhibitors. Do this once and your enemies’ will be paranoid, causing them to spread out, making it easier for your team to get a pick before crucial objectives. |
Subtle Baron Nashor Push
Yep, you can buff minions while stealthed! Now you can safely push, like so , without raising any suspicions because you don’t even show on the map! Warning: But don’t get carried away, remember, your thing is reviving your team, so if you are split pushing, you might be too late to the fight. Only do this if you are sure there will be no fighting soon. |
VS Champions that Rely on Clones
Shaco LeBlanc Wukong Neeko
Going Rogue’s Passive applies a Scoundrel mark on enemies that have killed someone in the past 60 seconds. This mark is useful in two secret ways. It puts a mark on their heads, diamond like, but will not put the mark on any clones or illusions. Which means, champs that often straight up kill someone and get away with it even if the victim was surrounded by allies, well now, instead, there will be a diamond mark on their heads, showing everyone who to vent on. |
VS Stealth
Evelynn, Shaco, Twitch, Teemo, Rengar, Kha’Zix, etc, etc
When Akshan is stealthed, marked enemies leave a trail, kind of like Warwick. So there are many champs that rely on stealth to get away with kills, but you will see, it is the most satisfying thing to track down a stealthed etc. |
VS Comps that Rely on Ganks Before Objectives
Which is pretty much any comp lol. But..
Finally, as an ADC main you are no longer at the mercy of fed assassins!!! Because...

Rough Lane Matchups
Or any support that can easily get in your face and body block your Heroic Swing’s grand escape. Pyke won't even try to hook you, he’ll just Ghostwater Dive stealth, then dash towards you with Phantom Undertow to stun you. But even if he doesn't land the stun, he’ll body block you on one side, and set up a Bone Skewer hook for the other swinging curve… Pyke can screw up 3 times while you’ll need to be perfect and lucky. Just ban him. |
Tristana is the type to jump in your face, and to also have a partner that does that too, so two people are body blocking you from grappling properly. Preventing your main source of damage and your exit. Same thing with Samira. Here are some option you might want to try.
|
Also, if for some reason, the support you are with refuses to make plays, or is in no inclination of being aggressive, your best strategy will be to shove your lane so you can go gank mid and get some Dark Harvest stacks there or get richer then enemy bot lane. |
Any type of healer. anything that will make it hard for you to get Dark Harvest stacks or will out sustain your mana. But especially Yuumi, because not only does she heal and shield, but good Yummis will get off their target to tank your Ultimate. |
Best Supports
As stated in the previous section, its rough when you’re against two champs that can easily jump in your face, to block both ways of your Heroic Swing.
So champs that can displace the enemies, by pushing or pulling enemies away from you so you can maximize the value of your Heroic Swing will be a lot of fun!
Aggressive initiators are awesome too, since they are most likely going to take the agro, and die before you, instead of the other way around, where you can’t revive them.

......................................................................................................................................................................................................
Your downfall are champs that get in your face and prevent you from Heroic Swing away. Thresh can actually push people away with Flay or pull them with Death Sentence ! You can let Thresh initiate, but with this support, you can too, since he can also grapple Death Sentence : D and if he misses, he'll send you his lantern Dark Passage to get you out of the mess you started! Just make sure to let your Thresh know to save his Dark Passage lantern to get you OUT of trouble, cause you got many ways to get INTO trouble all by yourself, thanks to Heroic Swing and Going Rogue. Thresh needs to make sure the Dark Passage lantern will always be ready to pull you out if your Heroic Swing doesn't reset. |
......................................................................................................................................................................................................
If you don’t want to ban him, find yourself a duo that mains him! (Also, he has a new skin so it shouldn’t be too hard to find a partner, and if not, it's a no brainer to ban him lol) Pyke also has a displacement crowd control ability Bone Skewer. He also has a stun Phantom Undertow. But what's extra nice about Pyke is that he also can stealth with Ghostwater Dive. Which combined with your stealth, will really get the enemy to cry and not want to push, just hoping for a gank. Which will just waste the junglers time, cause both you and Pyke have huge escapes even if the lane is pushing. Then, you can roam mid, while Pyke holds the lane, because the enemy thinks you’re just stealthed somewhere. Yes usually it's the Pyke that roams, but you might want to make an exception. Also, Pyke’s Ultimate Death from Below makes both of you a force to be reckoned with, since you are both hungry to kill and get resets. There is so much more to it though, you’ll just have to try it yourself! |
......................................................................................................................................................................................................
Rell can close the gap with Ferromancy - Crash Down if you decide to initiate the fight, she can also use her stun from the Full Tilt tether bond, similarly to what she’d do with a Tristana player. Ferromancy - Crash Down / Mount Up , the mounting up part, also helps to displace people away from you so that you can Heroic Swing properly. Her ultimate Magnet Storm can also be used to pull people away from you. Also, you will notice this season that you find yourself often debating with your gut over if you should get a Serpent's Fang or not. You must always listen to your gut. Unless you got a Rell! (If your a Rell main, please contact me, we’ll be bff) |

Honorable Mentions
......................................................................................................................................................................................................
You’ve witness other really cool combos? Share them in the comments below and I might add them to this section : D Twitch is a lot of fun, you both have overlapping play styles and your lines hilariously match! Renata Glasc gives you License to Mass Revive with her Handshake Anivia 'cause it's very satisfying to grapple her Crystallize wall and she’s another champ that Bot lane isn’t used to. Same thing with Trundle’s Pillar of Ice but I personally prefer Anivia’s ability damage and range. Braum’s Concussive Blows stacks faster since you auto attack twice, but this one is tricky because sometimes he’ll leap to you with Stand Behind Me but you’ll Heroic Swing a split second after and leave him all alone behind : ( same thing with Rakan. Those two have a lot of potential with Akshan but need good communication! |

Depending on how things are going in the lane, you either build one of those 3 items. But recently, I’ve noticed that I have a much higher win rate if I get the Serrated Dirk to get The Collector asap. Up to now the only exception is when the enemy team has no tanks, and are all assassins, then I’ll rush Immortal Shieldbow instead.
