Champion Build Guide

Axes to Axes: A Diamond's Guide to Olaf

By FeniSS
About me
Hi, my name is Sean and this is my second guide on mobafire. The first guide I ever made was on another jungle champion,Kayn and was titled “Red Kayn is the Best Kayn” and currently sits at around 30,000 views I go by Fenne on League and other online games which comes from the pokemon Fennekin. I'm a highschool student who’s passionate about games and music. League is my favorite game and I have been playing for just over two years. This time I will be writing a guide for one of my favorite champions, Olaf. I really hope you enjoy reading this guide as much as I enjoyed making it.
What's in The Guide
What’s in this guide
If your reading this now you are trying to learn or improve at Olaf and if so I’m here to help. I have only been playing in Olaf in solo queue recently to find all the limits of one of League’s strongest duelists. In this guide I will tell you everything I have learned playing Olaf for over a year. I will teach the strongest paths, the best items to buy and tips and tricks to help improve and win on the berserker
Strengths
When playing league it’s always best to play champions to full potential or to play to their strengths. The best way to learn this would of course be to play a lot of games but that can be time consuming so I have given the most important strong suits in the sections dueling, game states and combos.
Dueling
There is literally no character in the first 5 levels of the game Olaf doesn’t have at least a shot at beating. This doesn’t mean he has no unfavorable match ups it just means his bad match ups come from them out-scailing him
Game states
Early game:

Early game is where Olaf is debatably the strongest. There is nothing scarier than a 2/0 Olaf running into mid lane at Mach 5. However while Olaf is exceptional in the early game he does have some few key weaknesses such as him lacking a real form of crowd control and needing to not fall behind. In the early game you should be looking to get ahead in farm, sneak dragons and fight for scuttles.

Mid game:

Mid game is where most players agree Olaf is in his prime especially in the beginning of mid game. Olaf really is the star of the show at this time, as an Olaf you should often have a lead going into mid game but even if you don't you are still stronger than most champions at this stage. Olaf is very good at taking objectives and skirmishes keep yourself focused and looking for opportunities. In mid game you should be looking for objective control, getting vision and roaming with other lanes.

Late game:

Olaf does admittedly fall off late game however this doesn't render him useless. You are still very good at taking objectives and hit like a truck but you get blown up very easily. You play like a glass cannon supporting your team through objectives, with that being said Olaf should have an item advantage with the lead you built up early. Late game should be focused on securing objectives like Baron and Elder Dragon, frontlining in team fights and killing the enemy nexus.
Combos + Tricks
Olaf doesn't have super complex combos and is mostly about chaining his axes(Q) together. It's often best to lead with an auto attack before throwing your Q for a small animation cancel along with your E (Reckless Swing). W should be activated before entering a fight but not too early to make the most of it. It’s also important to hit W before you get taunted this way you will be healing while crowd controlled. Probably the best trick on Olaf is that you can chain your smite with your E to make it do bonus damage. This is super useful and having an extra 300 guaranteed damage on smite is a huge edge into mid game.
Conclusion
I hope this helps! If you have any questions feel free to add me. My username is Fenne on the North American server. The best thing you can do now is just play. Another great way to improve is watching streams and vods of pro players. Players I recommend and are fun to watch are the following:

Peanut

Pyosik

Jankos

Blaber

Santorin

Tian

Cuzz

And anyone else you enjoy watching :)

Until next time -Sean
