Early Game Strategy - Gank, Gank, Gank

Hecarim is fast so you must take advantage of that, especially in the early game. Hecarim can easily tower dive at earlier levels if played right. Ganking early is key to success with Hecarim so don't let yourself fall behind in cs and experience. Level three is when Hecarim's passive activates so make sure to get to lvl 3 before you start ganking. Once you get Boots of Swiftness and Spirit of the Elder Lizard you can gank easily and be able to escape almost every time with a kill or assist. Be careful when ganking champions with slows, like Ziggs mine field or Nasus's Wither.

Mid Game Strategy - Objectives/Defending

Mid game is all about pushing the objectives and split pushing is one of Hecarim's specialties. This is where obtaining Zephyr will help the most. Zephyr gives a great movement speed boost along with your Boots of Swiftness to get in and out fast. Elder Lizard and Zephyr both also provide the damage you need to knock a tower down fast and get away home free. If the team is behind after laning phase, build bulk first, like Sunfire cape and Spirit Visage. Hecarim has a considerable amount of bulk and can withstand long-lasting team fights.

Late Game Strategy - Like a Shadow

Hecarim's ultimate is great for crowd control in team fights. It reaches far and wide to hit and fear the entire enemy team if placed right. His bulk makes him last long in team fights and so he can spam his Q as he pleases. If your team is behind, but can distract the enemy team long enough, Hecarim can take two towers in the time it would take others to get one. Getting even one inhibitor for your team can turn the tides greatly for you.

Creeping / Jungling

Start at blue, as it allows you to use your abilities more. However Hecarim has low mana and uses mana up very easily so be careful when jungling. I usually also take 1-2 lane minions when I gank so as to not fall behind in experience.

Items

Your items can vary. However make sure you have Zephyr, Boots of Swiftness and Spirit of the Elder Lizard. These items are key to your success, but can me finished later if more bulk is needed with a Sunfire Cape or Spirit Visage.

Final Note

Hecarim is a very underused and underrated champion in the meta and that needs to change. This build will take you far as you swiftly strike with the might of the Shadow Isles and bring your enemies to their knees....
