Introduction


Deported ahri (NA)that's me :3 Just a random player who can't say no to that troll emote:3 This will be my first guide and I am still trying to upload some .gif images to improve the quality of this guide, it will be great if you could give me a like/vote if you could. I am not a native English speaker but feel free to add your comment in the discussion and I will answer them as soon as possible:3

Zoe is a very fun champion and will requires a lot of practice because of her skill-shot. Personally she is one of my favorite because of her trolling ability and insane burst damage.

I am still doing a lot of match-ups with players on PBE server to test out difficulties so except a lot of changes in this guide. Note that the match-up difficulties are not based on a single game but on at least 5 games to improve accuracy. When Zoe is released, I will do more changes to the guide because I could play against more diverse players with different play style.

Pros / Cons & Farming

Pros:
+Insane damage
+Great outplay potential
+Low cooldown on ability
+Fair amount of CC
+Her unique W ability allows her to pick up abilities or items (which will be explained in spells)


Cons:
-Very skill-shot dependent
-Hard to deal damage when enemy hide behind minions
-She is really squishy which she could be easily poke out while not paying attention
- Paddle Star (Q) requires traveling distance to increase its damage, opponent could use it as a way to trade against Zoe


Farming is not a big deal for Zoe comparing to other mid mages, however, it is important to note that her Q damage would deal damage to a small area, which could be used to farm.
More about laning would be explained during match-ups.

Spells

Even though I placed Ghost and Flash as my preference summoner spell, it is important to note that Ignite, teleport and exhaust could also works perfectly on her.

Because of her W (allows you to pick out summoner spell that was used by the enemy or items that are dropped from killing minions), theoretically she has infinite summoner spell with different outplay potential.
Bring ghost could help you either roam faster to follow up your laner or setting up counter ganks. It could also help you to chase down your enemy.
Bring Exhaust could help you survive laning phrase against huge burst or all-in champions such as talon, yasuo and jayce. It will also be useful to counter enemy's Adc's attack speed during team fight.
Bring heal is another alternative way of barrier, which allows you to escape, outplay a gank or provide an additional heal toward your team. Many pro player actually use this because of the movement speed boost while active and healing that could help them in both laning phrase and team fights.
Barrier is like heal which could help you to counter your laner and escape ganks, however, it doesn't heal you up or provide any movement speed boost rather it provides 95(+20 per level) sheild which is great to play against burst champions such as Zed, Talon and Jayce.

Runes


Not just because Aery is broken, but it could provide a very sustainable damage while laning. Because of its low cooldown (travel time from the enemy back to you), it is possible that you could deal a lot more damage and poke with Scorch scorch than Arcane Comet.


It is very important to note that you could take Ultimate hat to lower your Cooldown on your ult (even though it already has a really low cooldown), further lowing it could increase the times you could spam your combo to deal max damage in fights and poke.


Many asked me why take transcendence when celerity is better? There is no doubt that celerity is a very power runes, however personally, I would take transcendence for better scaling. Note that transcendence could provide 10% Cooldown reduction when you hit level 10, many argued that before 10 it would be completely useless because it doesn't give any stats. By using first back Sheensheen, it actually provide a 10% Cooldown reduction and further increase your damage (which will explain in Items). With this build, you will deal insane amount of damage but would not hit 40% Cooldown reduction with Zhonya's HourglassZhonya and Lich Bane lich bane only. By taking transcendence, you could actually reach it while not giving up your passive auto damage.


Scorch helps you to trade with your laner and you could pretty much out trade them because of your burst damage. Besides, it has a relatively low cooldown (20second) which you could just time it correctly and use it to increase poking damage.


Cheap shot pretty much help you when you hit a stun or from teammates cc. It provide 12-30 bonus true damage which could greatly increase of chances of one shotting your opponent.

Item


Here is my normal order for item

Starting items:


Doran's Ring+2x Health Potions are pretty much the standard starting items for many mid mages. It provide great sustain on mana regeneration (+50% base mana regeneration), 60 health and +15 ability power. Moreover, it restore 4 mana after killing an unit.

Dark Seal+ Refillable Potion could be an alternative starting item. Personally I would not recommend it as you need mana regeneration for more poking and health to fight against your laning opponent. However, Refillable Potion could help reducing the gold you will use on Health Potion later in game.


First back sheen could help you max out your damage because of your passive (After using an ability, you will gain an empowered auto which cast instantly unlike normal auto, dealing bonus damage). It looks similar to viktor's second cast Q, hence Lich Bane would be a great item to max out your trading potential.


It is very important to note that using zhonya during ult will send you back into the spot where you initially cast your ult. it could be used as bait to bait out enemy's CC.


Some players love to take protobelt because you could use it during ult, it could act as a finisher to max out your damage or more out play potential.


While facing against a poking comp, morellonomicon would a great item which gives your mana regeneration for more poking. It also help lowering your Cooldown on ability which allows more poking while dealing Inflict Grievous Wounds to the enemy to reduce their healing.


Same as morellonomicon, Rod of Ages could help your scaling potential. It provide mana, health and ability power which could help you lane and late game team fight. The only down side to this item is that it takes time to stack up your health and ability, so early game would be a little bit tough.


Reason why Liandry's torment could be a great item on Zoe because it works on your Q and your E. Imagine burning someone in their sleep:^)


Ok seriously...it provide really good amount of magic penetration(+15) and provide some health to improve Zoe's stats. Pretty good to get against heavy tank.

Comparing other Runes






Many other guides or player loves taking these, and I would love to do a little comparison why I would also recommended taking them. Although I had suggested Cheap Shot and [[RAVENOUS HUNTER], there is no doubt that these runes could help improve her in many ways, note that new runes are for everyone with different play style.


Cosmic InsightJust like transcendence, it gives great Cooldown on abilities, items and summoner spells. It is really great for players that build Hextech Rocketbelt, Zhonya's Hourglass or Hextech Gunblade. I really wish it could be taken with Cheap Shot instead of other inspiration runes because with the help of Cheap Shot, it will max out her damage, however,riot please:(


The reason why I don't really likeBiscuit Delivery because it will only be given at 3/6/9/12 minutes and restore 15% of your missing health and mana for over 15 seconds and increase 40 mana permanently per every consumption of the biscuit. Besides that, it doesn't really give any other stats that could help her in mid-late game.


Magical Footwear is like giving you a free boots at 10 minute so you don't have to use 300 gold to get one, every take down will help getting the boots 30 second sooner. Besides, upgrading the boots will give an additional 10 Movement speed and requires 50 gold less. Ghost could be a great replacement for it since Zoe are already quite mobile with her ult.


The main reason why I don't take Arcane Comet is that it has a long cooldown than Summon Aery, even though Summon Aery is getting a nerf in the next patch, note that the damage doesn't really matter that much if you could constantly use it while poking with Scorch for max poking damage and domination in lane.

More Sparkles! (Passive)
After using an ability, Zoe's next auto attack or bubble within 5 seconds will deals 17/140 (based on level and +25% of ability power) bonus magic damage.
Paddle Star (Q)

RANGE: 800
COST: 50/55/60/65/70 mana
COOLDOWN: 7.5/7/6.75/6.5/6.25
Q is pretty much your main source of damage. It is similar to viktor's E which you could change its direction. The longer it travel, the more damage it will deal.
Spell Thief (W)

COST: 0 mana
COOLDOWN: 0.25
W The reason why I don't max level it second because is not that important since you will only need it for picking up summoner spells and items that are dropped from minions. The only difference will be the 3 bubbles magic damage (23.3/38.3/53.3/68.3/83.3(+16.7% of your ability power) that will active after using Spell Thief. Remember you can't pick up another spells or items until you used the one you have
Sleepy Trouble Bubble (E)

RANGE: 800
COST: 80 mana
COOLDOWN: 16/15.5/15/14.5/14
It is very important to note that your E increase range when traveling through walls, it is very important for you to get into practice tool and learn its range and its potential. It deal a very great amount of magic damage (60/100/140/180/220 (+40% of ability power) while providing a unique Drowsy effect (2 second of sleep), but will be awaken early upon taking damage.

Putting someone to sleep will refund 10/15/20/25/30% of Sleepy Trouble Bubble cooldown. Note that if it missed a target, it will stay on the ground as a trap for 4 seconds and act as a zoning ability.
Portal Jump (E)

RANGE: 575
COST: 50 mana
COOLDOWN: 11/8/5
R has very short Cooldown which by using it, you could max out your Q range and damage. You could also use it to pick up spells or items. Remember that you will return to the location that you cast initially.

Basic combo would be something like:
>> (backward or sideway)>> (for max range)>> (Second cast)

Summary


Overall, Zoe is a very strong champion because of her insane damage and teamfight potential. She is a really good champion but will requires a lot of practice on her combo and fully understand her ability. I wish you guys like this guide and I may try to make more about other champions that I usually play.
