If you are looking for a champion that will deal tons and tons of damage, can tank a bit (but much less than tank Jarv), well this guide is for you. You will get tons of kills and carry your team easily. Jarvan is an easy champion that can pull out a few nice tricks ^^.

II. Introduction

Back to Table of Contents

I first tried Jarvan as a tank. I still went legendary even on my first game, but I wondered if Jarvan was a good DPS and found out that he can wreck everything on his path as a DPS.

Note: Play smart, watch for minimap and mias yourself, don't rely on your mates when you are in mormals. Don't overextend if there are mias, don't be overconfident because you scored a triple kill (scored two in like 5 games). You will be very very strong mid game, but late game, you have to stay with your team at all times (duh) and don't engage alone against one person if there are mias.

Note 2: This is a guide for 3v3s. There are two lanes: top and bottom (some people say mid and bottom), I don't. This guide might work for 5v5s, but you will have to get some survival items or engage late in teamfights (which isn't recommended since your ultimate is very good for tem fights)

Pros:
- Insane damage dealer (can two shot squishies late game)
- Somewhat tanky early to mid game
- Good against squishies and tanks (thank god to armor pen ^^)
- Good farmer (when you can one shot creeps with dragon strike)
- Great disrupter (save your allies, chase fleers, trap em , slow em, knock em, kill em ^^)
- Can adapt really well to team comp and ennemy team comp
- Can 5-6 shot turrets late game
- Make people QQ ^^
- Great skill synergy
- Fun to play
- Good escaper
- You will go where you pleases (Mundo, get out)

Cons:
- Kind of squishy late game (your damage will compense for it)
- That's all if you play smart.

III. Skill Explanations

Back to Table of Contents

Martial Cadence - You deal a % of ennemies health each 6 seconds when you attack. Good against and squishies and tanks.

Dragon strike - Extend his lance and deal MASSIVE damage to ennemies. If it connects with your flag, you will be pulled to it and knock ennemies in the air. Always try to place your flag behind your ennemy before using this skill (unless you only want to harrass).

Golden Aegis - Mainly used as slow, but the shield is very useful late game, since, as I told you, you become squishy late game.

Demacian Standard - Good damage, nice AS buff, mainly used for AS and knocking up ennemies in the air with dragon strike.

Cataclysm - Great initiator. Good to trap ennemies in... or out! You can trap the little squishy behind their team and two shot him. Nobody can help him unless they got moving skills such as maokai's snare.

IV. Summoner Spell Explanations

Back to Table of Contents

: Flash is good to get away, escape and to perform some of the tricks Jarvan can unleash! (explained later)

: Good finisher. I like it also for the heal reduction since there are alot of warwicks and mundos in 3v3s. This can shut down their healing and life steal.
Considerable Summoner Spells

Back to Table of Contents

: Good to chase down peeps who try to flee
: CC could shut you down if you get stun locked. Cleanse will help you there.

V. Rune Explanations

Back to Table of Contents
greater mark of desolation greater quintessence of desolation

greater mark of desolation Greater Mark of Desolation: Armor pen = win

Greater Seal of Evasion: dodge + 10% faster MS when you dodge = win

Greater glyph of warding: MR to tank bursts = win

greater quintessence of desolation Greater Quintessence of Desolation: More armor pen = ya you know it...

VI. Mastery Explanations

Back to Table of Contents

DPS = Offence, of course. Also defence, for the 9 remaining points for the speed when you dodge and also for the little survivability you get.

Offence[Sections divided by Tier Rows]:

Back to Table of Contents

Tier 1 You get the +2% crit chance and also one point in the ap mastery

Tier 2 4 points in AS and 3 Points in CD reduction

Tier 3 3 points in armor pen

Tier 4 3 points in damage

Tier 5 3 points in crit dmg

The Tier 6 Havoc (duh). I use this mastery build, since you are a dps and a dps needs AS, Crits, Dmg, Armor pen (=win) and why not some cooldown reduction?

Defense[Sections divided by Tier Rows]:

Back to Table of Contents

Tier 1 Get 3 points in armor and 1 point in MR. Why? Cuz you got runes for MR, that's why.

Tier 2 4 points in dodge chance. Synergy with your dodge runes.

Tier 3 1 point in the one that gives you more MS when you dodge. Good synergy with your dodge runes.

VII. Core Item Build Sequence

Back to Table of Contents

Start with a doran's shield and head bottom for the early gank. Then call top and go solo there. Farm, kill until you recall or die (hope not). Buy Merc threads, starting with the boots of speed. Then get last whisper, getting pickaxe first. Get another pickaxe for bilgewater cutlass and build it when you have the money. Wait until you have 1850g to get a B.F sword and then build infinity edge. Get tiamat, always starting with the pickaxe. Sell doran's, get cleaver. That is the build for a perfect game, but I don't stick to this build and so won't you. You gotta build up to counter the opposite team and wonder what would contribute most to your team. For example, when they get a lot of dps (shaco, twitch, xin), I like to get thornmail after infinity or after last whisper. Get banshees if you get locked down and stuff. I only give you the base build but you gotta adapt, that's what makes the difference between a very good and an okay player. I suggest you to stick to this build for your first few games and then try counter items depending on your opponents, you'll get used to it.

Situational Items

Back to Table of Contents

banshee's veil size 32 Banshee's Veil: When they get alot of CC or you get bursted down before even being able to wreck em.

Thornmail: When they get lots of autoattackers like yi, shaco, twitch, sivir, trynd, etc. I love this item

Frozen Mallet: I don't use this item with Jarv, but it might be useful for more survivability, but since I focus on dps, usually I don't get it.

VIII. Laning & Play Style

Back to Table of Contents

Jarvan is good at disrupting and killing ennemies really fast. He can pull out a few nice tricks and can escape easily.
Early Game Phase

Back to Table of Contents

At levels 1-6, You go to early gank at bottom like most of 3v3s. Use your flag to dmg people and also to buff your team. Then go solo top. Farm and harrass with your dragon strike, but do not use the knock up combo unless you wanna kill your opponent. Usually what I do is: I farm until my opponent wants to fight me, I back a bit so my creeps will help me, I use E>Q combo, then ignite and my W to slow. Chase until he dies, but do not towerdive even if your opponent is really low, unless you are full HP and you know you can kill your ennemy. If he flees, I continue to farm, hoping I'll get my ult soon ^^.

Mid Game Phase

Back to Table of Contents

At levels 6-13: This is where you shine, kill people using the combo I wrote above, which is E>Q>W>Ignite>ult is needed. Note that your ult has many uses:
Trap someone who tries to get away
Save your ally and avenge him even if he's not dead ^^
Let your ranged teammates attack your ennemies from outside the circle and you hold em within.
Trap your ennemy, then flash out or use E>Q to GTFO and escape with 1 HP.

At midgame, you will most likely score doubles and triple kills without dieing.

Late Game Phase

Back to Table of Contents

At levels 13-18, Here, you have to stay with your team in teamfights, don't engage alone. You sure can kill the overextenders, but care, it might be a bait. Stay with your team, wreck, push, win ^^

Be careful of ganks, it's worth buying some wards to watch for em. Adapt your items depending of your ennemies, but also depending of your allies.

Late Game Summarized

Back to Table of Contents

Usually it's GG soon, you get lots of kills, not that much of deaths, and few assists since your damage is so high that you almost always get the kills.

IX. Tricks & Strategies

Back to Table of Contents

Welcome to my trick section! The one I was looking forward to write! Here are some tricks i love to do:

1. Escape tricks

- E>Q away then flash further away (just to be sure)
- E>Q through walls (they get so pissed when you do that)
- Ult someone, pop W and flash out of your ring, then, if needed, E>Q through a wall, or E>Q to get out of your ring and, if needed flash through a wall or just to be even further away.

2. Catch tricks

- If your ennemy is really far and very low, E>Q in his direction, flash, then ult your opponent, then ignite and finish him off. This is the full catch combo, but you could just use part of it (ex: flash>ult or E>Q>ult) Also when you ult your ennemy pop W to slow him

3. Other tips

- I often start to kill the little squishy behind their team. Because often they do the most damage and they are the easiest to kill. Ult the squishy E>Q auto attack if he's not already dead. Then kill the others, always using E>Q, chase and finish with another Q. Use ignite if needed, ace and push with your team.

That does it pretty much. Hope you liked my build, please comment. Please try my build before voting. This guide is made for 3v3s, not sure of 5v5s results. Also note that I speak french, so I might have slipped some mistakes. Please leave feedbacks ^^

Note: I used Sixsonatas' format template, thank you very much Sixsonatas.
