Hi folks, my name is Bluesylum and i'm happy to present to you my in-depth Twisted Fate guide. I play Twisted Fate since now two years, so i got a lot of experience with him and i hope you'll enjoy my guide. I worked hard on it, this is my first guide on mobafire so please read it and comment, i need your advices to improve it :D
So, first, who am i ? As i said, my name is Bluesylum, i'm currently in the silver III division, which is kinda low, you're right. I usually play against platinium and sometimes diamond players and i can handle most of them without much problems. I'm not a pro player, but i don't think i'm bad, and i'll try to get platinium divison with my Twisted Fate , i think it's possible because Twisted Fate is one of the best champion to carry the solo Q if you master him. I'll explain later why in this guide.
These are my S3 ranked stats with Twisted Fate.
Why do i like to play Twisted Fate ? He is my main champion because he has an amazing spell kit, including aoe dmgs, single target stun, aoe slow, mana regeneration, a 5500 range teleport.. He's a farm-master and he can decide to change the issue of the game in early-mid game by using his ult to gank other lanes and give them an advantage. Oh, and Twisted Fate is maybe the coolest champion in the game : a wizard fighting with cards and wearing a hat ? What do you want more, folks. Let's start this Twisted Fate guide.
First, let's start with some music you must listen to while playing Twisted Fate with the cow-boy skin !
Perfect tune in my opinion !
Pros / Cons
Huge range with Wild Cards which allows you to poke and farm well.
Stun, aoe slow, mana regen with Pick A Card.
Awesome map presence with Destiny.
Great pusher with Wild Cards , Pick A Card and Lich Bane.
Can outgold anyone with Loaded Dice , Greed and kage's lucky pick.
Hard laning phase.
Squishy as hell. Need to have a very good placement in team-fights.
Requires experience to pick up the right card at the right moment Pick A Card.
No escape if you pick up the blue card Pick A Card.
Ultimate countered by Teleport and Stand United.
A bit weak early game before he gets Sheen.
With Twisted Fate, players usually goes 21/0/9 to maximise his dmgs. I use a different masteries tree, a 9/0/21 which is the best option in my opinion.
Why would you loose dmgs on an Ap Carry ?
Twisted Fate is not a classic Ap Carry. His job is to deal dmgs yeah, but he will deal less dmgs than a Syndra or an Orianna in one combo. He needs items to start dealing amazing dmgs, and however a good Twisted Fate will stand back of the team fight and never got focussed, which allows him the possibility to use 3 or 4 times his Wild Cards and Pick A Card.
So our Twisted Fate needs stuff to be effective. Okay, that's why we put 21 points in the utility tree. But however the utility tree is the one who synergise the most with Twisted Fate :
- Twisted Fate has no escape, Summoner's Insight and Mastermind will reduce the cooldown of his flash.
- Twisted Fate uses a lot of activables items ( Zhonya's Hourglass, Twin Shadows, and maybe Deathfire Grasp). Artificer reduces their cooldowns.
- Greed synergise well with Loaded Dice and kage's lucky pick which allows Twisted Fate to get his stuff faster than everybody.
- Pickpocket seems to be a fun masterie, but it synergise well with Pick A Card and Stacked Deck and will allows you 3 golds everytime you'll hit your opponent with basic attack. (every 10 basics attacks = 1 creep ! :D )
- Finally, Nimble will give Twisted Fate more mobility, which is really important on him to place your gold card Pick A Card.
- This masteries tree also gives you a longer blue buff with Runic Affinity , some cdr with Intelligence and a bit movement speed when out of combat with Wanderer .
Greater Mark of Magic Penetration
Greater Seal of Armor
Greater Glyph of Scaling Ability Power
Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed
Greater Mark of Magic Penetration : Every Ap Carry should use these runes, you need magic penetration to ignore opponent's magic resistance.
Greater Seal of Armor : I use them because it's not worth it to get mana regen on tf (the blue card does everything if you know how to manage your mana pool) and the scaling ap isn't great too. I take these runes because of heavy gankers like Xin Zhao, Vi and Jarvan IV, in order to reduce their dmgs.
Greater Glyph of Scaling Ability Power : Great glyphs, which garants Twisted Fate free ability power all game long. You can also use Greater Glyph of Magic Resist if you are playing against Fizz, Syndra, LeBlanc, Orianna or Diana.
Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed : Best quintessences ever, in my opinion. Twisted Fate has a low movement speed, with these runes, Nimble , Lich Bane and Twin Shadows, it will be so easy to have a good placement in team fights and to stun the carry with Pick A Card without getting caught. I never use any other runes on Twisted Fate.
Twisted Fate has no escape. Flash will be your best friend when you'll get ganked, when you'll have to place your gold card on an opponent.. The best summoner's spell in League of Legends.
Ignite is really effective in order to get early kills. I gives you the burst you need to kill an oppenent who would have ran away with 40 hp without ignite. It can also help you if you gank bot lane, use it on the Ad Carry to reduce his support's heal. A must-have.
It's a viable option. If you pick Ghost, be sure to buy Enchantment: Distortion in order to reduce Ghost and Flash cooldowns. It's a good option if you fear to get caught by the opposite team, your flash will have 3 minutes cooldown and your ghost 2 minutes with the masteries and Enchantment: Distortion.
Passive : .
While Twisted Fate is alive, he and his allies receive an additional 2 gold per unit kill.
This passive is a free Avarice Blade for all your team including yourself. It's really usefull if your team farms well, it can give you a certain gold advantage on your opponents.
Q : . Twisted Fate throws 3 cards forward in an arc, damaging enemies they pass through. COOLDOWN: 6 COST: 60 / 70 / 80 / 90 / 100 mana MAGIC DAMAGE: 60 / 110 / 160 / 210 / 260 (+ 65% AP)
This spell is an aoe with a really large range (1450) which as tons of utilitys. You can use it to farm minions, poke, zoning, stealing buffs, securing objectives...
It has a low cooldown and it deals really good dmgs.
W : . ACTIVE: When first activated, cards flash over Twisted Fate's head in the following order: blue, then red, then gold (this cycle repeats itself). When he uses the ability again, he picks the current card over his head; the card picked converts his next attack to magic damage and adds a special effect. This attack cannot miss or crit.
COOLDOWN: 6 COST: 40 / 55 / 70 / 85 / 100 mana
This is the ability who makes Twisted Fate who he is. It's a high-skilled ability and you'll need time to understand when to pick up the right card. Let's explain what every card does :
Twisted Fate's next attack will deal magic damage and will restore mana equal to 65% of Blue Card's base damage + AD scaling.
MAGIC DAMAGE: 40 / 60 / 80 / 100 / 120 (+ 100% AD) (+40% AP)
MANA RESTORED: 26 / 39 / 52 / 65 / 78 (+ 65% AD)
The blue card is the card you'll use to restore your mana in early game. Use to for a better last hit and to harass your opponent when you have no creeps to last hit. It's the card who does the most dmgs, remember it when you'll have to pick up a card in order to finish an opponent, pick this one.
Twisted Fate's next attack will deal magic damage to both the target and all enemies within 100 range of the target. All damaged enemies will also be slowed for 2.5 seconds.
MAGIC DAMAGE: 30 / 45 / 60 / 75 / 90 (+ 100% AD) (+ 40% AP)
SLOW: 30% / 35% / 40% / 45% / 50%
The red card is an aoe slow who deals decent dmgs. It's the most underestimate card of the deck, in my opinion. Twisted Fate players usually use this card to farm. It's a good tip you should know when you play Twisted Fate : when the minions wave comes in front of you, use your red card on the second melee minion and use wild card to one-shot an entiere wave if you have enough ap.
I also use this card in teamfights. When i know that i can't hit the carry with my gold card, i pick the red and i throw it when my tank engaged to do some aoe dmgs and to slow the enemy team. The slow helps me to place my Wild Cards, it makes it harder to dodge them for the enemy team.
Twisted Fate's next attack will deal magic damage and stun the target.
MAGIC DAMAGE: 15 / 22.5 / 30 / 37.5 / 45 (+ 100% AD) (+ 40% AP)
STUN DURATION: 1 / 1.25 / 1.5 / 1.75 / 2
The gold card is twister fate main card. It's the card you'll use to stun your opponent in lane, during a gank, to escape, during team fights.. Try to never miss to lock this card when you need it. It's also the card who does the less dmgs.
E : . PASSIVE: Twisted Fate gains bonus attack speed and cooldown reduction. In addition, every fourth autoattack will deal bonus magic damage.
MAGIC DAMAGE: 55 / 80 / 105 / 130 / 155 (+ 40% AP)
ATTACK SPEED, COOLDOWN REDUCTION: 3% / 6% / 9% / 12% / 15%
This spell is one of the factors which shows a good Twisted Fate player. During the laning phase, this spell can be used to zone your opponent or if you got problems with last-hitting. Be sure to prepare your Stacked Deck before you try to burst down your opponent or before a gank with Destiny.
R : . ACTIVE: Twisted Fate reveals all enemy champions, including stealthed champions, for a few seconds. While Destiny is active, Twisted Fate can use Gate once.
COOLDOWN: 150 / 135 / 120 COST: 150 / 125 / 100 mana DURATION: 6 / 8 / 10
Twisted Fate ultimate. It allows him to see all opponents champions and to teleport to a 5500 units distance from himself. This skill must be used as much as you can in order to give a huge advantage to your team by ganking everytime this ult is up. You have to turn every situation in the advantage of your team by using your Destiny when a fight burns on a lane.
You can also use this ult in order to split push, like Shen would do. Be sure that you can teleport if your team engage a fight. NEVER TELEPORT IN THE MIDDLE OF A TEAM FIGHT ! You should Destiny in a bush behind the AD Carry in order to stun him with your gold card. You can also try the famous Zhonya's bait (ult in the middle of the tf then instant zhonya) but it has 90 % chance to be a total fail in solo Q.. :D
We will take Pick A Card first, it gives you more possiblities at level 1 : you can help your jungler with the red card or stun an opponent if you invade. Then we'll max Wild Cards in order to maximise our burst and our farming/pushing/harass possibilities. Then we'll max Stacked Deck, which is no more worth it to max as second spell since the rework of Pick A Card. Level up Destiny at lv 6, 11 and 16.
So here we are, this is one of the most important part of this guide : The Items section. I'll now explain you why i choose this build on twisted fate and why all these items are core items on him.
Let's start with the boots choice. Why do i pick up Mercury's Treads on an Ap Carry ? Because Twisted Fate hates ccs. I like to buy these boots early in the game in order to dodge ennemy ganks and to reduce their ccs duration. I think they are much better than Sorcerer's Shoes because they allows you to take a bit more dgms with the magic resist and to don't get caught in team-fights. (As i said earlier in the guide,
This new item, released with the season 3, synergise well with Twisted Fate. It's a second tier item for kage's lucky pick, which allows you to pick up this item at your first back to take the best advantage of his income passive. When upgraded to Twin Shadows, you have now decent ap, magic resist, bonus movement speed (so much usefull on Twisted Fate) and a unique active : Hunt. This active makes Twisted Fate early ganks much stronger, because you can slow both opponent of the bottom lane just by using this item. Definitly a must-have on Twisted Fate.
This item has been changed with the season 3 : his passive, Spellblade, deals now magic damages with 50 base damages, which allows you to pick up this item right after your Twin Shadows. It has always been a core item on Twisted Fate because Spellblade procs when you use Pick A Card. A Lich Bane proc with a gold card from Pick A Card plus a Stacked Deck = TONS OF DMGS ! :D
At this point of the game, a lot of Ap Carrys players would have already bought a Rabadon's Deathcap. But in my opinion, Zhonya's Hourglass is a much powerfull option if you know how to use it. The unique active of this item gives you survability in teamfights. For exemple, if Lux catches you with her Q and then use all her spells to shut you down, you can use Zhonya's Hourglass to avoid her burst. As always, when i play Twisted Fate, i prefer to have a lot of survibility instead of lot of dmgs in early-mid game, so i can burst again and again and i'll finally do more dmgs than if i had a Rabadon's Deathcap, used my burst one time and then insta-died.
Now, you can pick up this item who's a core item on ever ap carry. It will increase your dmgs a lot and maybe allows you to almost one-shot the enemy ad carry if he hasn't yet bought a defensive item like Warmog's Armor or Randuin's Omen.
This is the last item you'll buy, because, in this meta, there's not a lot viable magic resistance items and players prefers pick up hps instead of resistances. This item is great for dealing almost true dmgs to an enemy with 60 magic resistance. This item is great to compensate for the lack of Sorcerer's Shoes magic penetrarion.
Which items to buy at your first recall ?
kage's lucky pick
kage's lucky pick is the item you'll always pick up at your first back. You need this early in the game in order to take the best advantage of his gold income passive.
If you've been early ganked, killed or forced to back before you had enough gold to buy kage's lucky pick, pick up a Doran's Ring, which is a great early games item. It will gives you health, ability power and allows you to never be out of mana with such a champion as Twisted Fate.
The Sheen is only to buy if you got 2 or 3 kills before your first back, with the help of your jungler or by yourslef, and if you want to snowball in early game. Do it only if you are far ahead from your opponent.
In teamfights Twisted Fate should stay back and use Pick A Card to stun the enemy ad carry with the gold card if he's in ranged. if he's not, he will pick up the red card and throw it in the middle of the team-fight with his Wild Cards and try to hit the entiere enemy team.
Twisted Fate musn't die in a team-fight, he has a long range and he has to use it in order to be always safe from enemy ccs. Remember to use Twin Shadows, Zhonya's Hourglass and Flash in order to survivre.
Try to use your Destiny behind the enemies carrys when it's possible and then do your job ! ;)
