Hello and welcome to R¥ze 101: Triple Sapphire!; a Ryze build guide of a different color!
I'm Gramps Tewks, and I'll be your curator as we explore the possibilities of playing with everyone's favorite Mana-powered machine-gunner and tireless reader/researcher!
Here's a look at a b-e-a-utiful Ryze Penta-Kill:

+ Crazy (AoE) Damage!
- Short(ish) range for a caster!
Ryze was my first real champion!
His machine-gun style of play is excellent and much more consistent than a burst-caster model.
I left him behind for a while, but he's seriously awesome and (for only 450 IP) certainly worth a shot!
Strength of Spirit is especially good with Triple Sapphire Crystals!
Sorcery and Intelligence will get you to a hot 39% CDR.
The AD Masteries improve your farmz, and Swiftness is a must-have!
- Greater Mark of Magic Penetration: Magic Penetration is extraordinarily powerful in the early-game; even a slight advantage there can easily shape the entire match.
- Greater Seal of Armor: Wheaties...
- Greater Glyph of Magic Resist: The Breakfast of Champions.
- Greater Quintessence of Ability Power: Boosts Spell Flux and Rune Prison early-on!
Flash: Add Rune Prison for surprise takedowns!
An excellent escape to boot.
Teleport: Excellent for mid-laning!
Lets you be everywhere at once, pretty much.
- Arcane Mastery: Show of hands; who likes casting ten spells real quick?
- Overload (Q): More like OverKILL.
8% of your max Mana powers this bad boy, and it has virtually no Cooldown when bursting!
- Rune Prison (E): "Hold on a sec, I gotta nuke ya."
Veeery, very good snare and damage spell!
- Spell Flux (W): Not the greatest, but MR Reduction and AoE ain't bad.
Throw it out early in your combo for maximum damage!
- Desperate Power (R): Hilarious sustain with Will of the Ancients!
Passive Mana is excellent, and casting it counts as an Arcane Mastery tick-down.
I prefer QREQWQ, but the sentiment is spot-on :D
: 16 Overload damage and 2 HP Regen from
Strength of Spirit
: Indispensable purchases on your first trip back! (945 Gold)
: Think of these as crazy-inexpensive Damage, Fuel, and Health Regen!
Three Sapphire Crystals is the best way to spend 1200 early Gold as Ryze!
: Standard caster fare: boosts your damage alongside Greater Mark of Magic Penetration!
: Upgrade two Sapphire Crystals to form your tanky Mana base.
: No end-game is too long. No Magic Resist is too high!
: WotA and Desperate Power let you duel with Life stealers.
- : Collect on your Tear of the Goddess investment for an excellent kick!
Tribal Ryze looks pretty dang awesome, methinks.
Take mid lane: last-hit minions as much as humanly possible and tag your opponent with Overload!
If you can, catch your opponent off-guard with an Overload-> Rune Prison-> Overload combo!
After that, they won't approach you or your minions lightly again.
Ryze' Mid-Game begins when he's farmed out Glacial Shroud!
If you K.O. your opposition (and have over 1/2 health), go find a lane to gank and rack up some kills!
Push turrets, continue to farm, and help your teammates.
Play your Tanky/Mage/DPS role and facilitate some aces.
DESTROY the Nexus with your team!
I must admit, I'm spoiled on Karthus and Gangplank (with their Global Ults!) but Ryze is an insanely tough dude who can melt pretty much everyone!
He's only 450 IP and isn't Rune-dependent at all, so he's a great starter champ.
De pros also like him, so there's much to explore!
