Skarner Season 11 Broken Offtank Guide

By G Spot God
Welcome
I am the G Spot God. I am currently a low diamond player but this season I am going to only one trick skarner instead of trying to replicate the bausffs' AD Sion and staying hardstuck d4. I hope you enjoy this guide and give my build a chance because it exponentially increases your chance to carry games from the jungle. Skarner as a tank is good, Skarner as a offtank is GREAT.

Check out my Youtube channel where I post Skarner gameplay and guides.

Here are a few highlights from the start of S11 as I continue to try to climb and piece together the perfect build for all scorpions to conquer with:
Scorpion Pros
- STRONG CC
- High Mobility
- Low Pick Rate (Rip Darius players)
- Great and UNDERRATED Dueling Potential
- Scuttle Control
- Unkillable Late Game
- Not Mechanically Intensive
Scorpion Cons
- Low AD Ratios
- Can Be Kited
- Qss Is Annoying AF
- Teammates Won't Trust You When You initiate A 2v3 Even Though It's Free.
Runes

- Most underrated rune on skarner. This allows you to win duels early, 1v2 midgame, and 1v9 late. You get fully stacked extremely quickly because of your fast autos + .

- This is the best option because you have no mana problems so is useless and most of your lifesteal comes from conqueror which will not be fully stacked until you are below 100% hp, so no need for .

- Skarner's main weakness is being kited. This rune gives us the added tenacity we lack by opting to not go a tank mythic item. If the enemy team does not have a lot of hard cc, you can opt for for the extra attack speed and stompability.

- Synergizes extremely well with conqueror. Will allow you to keep pumping out damage while on your last stand. I have found it is better than and but both can be used if going against super squishy or super tanky teams respectively but I would say over 95% of the time I run Last Stand.

- MY FAVORITE RUNE ON SKARNER. Synergizes with our whole kit and build , , and . A MUST Take.

- Also synergizes with celerity well. Allows you to kidnap your victims even faster and drag them deep into your allies. I could see substitutions for either or . Try the build with and without it and see what you like best.

Lastly for runes you can play around with them to counter the enemy team. I generally keep the attack speed because it helps us stack conqueror faster. I then choose either AD, Armor or MR for the last two.
Mythic Choices
When choosing the mythic item to go for there are two important factors to consider.

FACTOR 1: Your Team Comp
- This is to choose between Turbo Chemtank OR the other three items. If you are the initiator, (have no teammates that will hard engage such as , , , etc) then may be the best option. If my team has engaging potential and my role on the team is more of a bruiser, then I will most likely choose between the other three items (See below for more).

FACTOR 2: Enemy Team Comp
- Now that you are choosing between , and , you should focus on how tanky the enemy team is.

-If they have 3+ tanks then I will take Divine Sunderer 100%.
-If they are a squishy team then I usually take Tri force.
-If I am feeling spicy and they have a lot of melee champs, I will take goredrinker.

For more info about the builds with tri or goredrinker see notes above in build tab.
Early Clear

If I'm on blue team, my standard clear is: start Red -> Chickens -> Wolves -> Blue -> Gromp -> Scuttle or gank top/mid/fight jungler for scuttle.

If I'm on red team, my standard clear is: start Blue -> Gromp -> Wolves -> Chickens -> Red -> Scuttle or gank top/mid/fight jungler for scuttle.

If you are clearing correctly, you should have 100% hp with one smite charge when you arrive at scuttle which should be around 3 minutes. That gives you 15/25 seconds to get the spire, drop a ward and decide either to gank or focus on crab.
Power Spikes

- HUGE EARLY power spike if you get 1k gold before first back, that allows boots plus sheen.

- Power Spike from mythic item of course.

- Domination time when is complete. Allows you to be everywhere at once.
Early Gameplay
Now that you know how to full clear, let's focus on Skarner's early gameplay. One word TEMPO. You want to be the one to set it, make the enemy jungler feel pressured to force a play, and capitalize on his mistakes. You might say "Sure G Spot that sounds nice, but what does that actually look like?" Well I'm glad you asked fellow summoner. Here is a clip:

Clip...

My favorite way to impose myself early game is to counter jungle, and look to double scuttle them. This is demoralizing as a jungler, at least I HATE when I get double scuttled. Look for ganks between your camps, but don't go out of your way. Focus on getting level 6 .
Early Midgame
Now that you have your ulti , your sheen , and your , it is time to UP the tempo even more.

This time look for ganks or drakes. I rarely do rift unless there is nothing else to do on the map because it kills tempo. The difference between successful junglers and those trapped in ELO Hell is knowing which lanes to gank. Use a quick mental checklist:

1. Who has the least escapability? or

2. What teammates have hard cc to help you? or

3. Do they have flash up?

4. What can I possibly lose or gain by going for this gank?

**Think of the worst case scenario because it will probably happen. I don't want to gank top when my bot is pushed up to the enemy's tower with no vision and drake is up. Even if I get a succesful gank off top, we could lose a lot more botside. Don't worry about having to run down there, you are FAST.
Midgame
Now the first drake has been taken, the second or maybe even the third drake is spawning. You have your , your , and your at least. You should be taking fights with pretty much any one you run into as long as you have a spire up. Either take the rift now before 20:00 to push a lead or make sure to secure the next drake. You are looking to snowball the game out of control.

When it comes to teamfighting at this point in the game, you most likely have to be the initiator. Look to + their most vulnerable target. It does not have to be the adc. If you are trying to secure drake, sting the enemy jungler, if the enemy supp is out of position grab him/her.

Just get a pick.
Early Late Game
The clock hits 25:00-30:00. You have added , and . You are in PEAK Scorpion mode right now. If you have a tank on your team let them initiate teamfights because the enemy will be able to do damage at this point if they all focus on you. Ideally you will have a or a . Some BEEFY boy to soak up the brunt of the enemy cds. That's when you come in and all hell breaks loose.

**I CANNOT stress this enough, do NOT underestimate your damage/survivability especially if you are fighting in a spire zone. You can 1v3 at this point.**

Late Game
At this point you need a team to help you win, which doesn't always happen. The way you compensate for the trolls on your team is by kidnapping and assassinating one of the high value targets on the opposing team. Your + combo is up every 5 minutes. Once you have deleted the pestering or , it's time to force them to fight you 4v5 at baron/elder or give you the buff.

You are the Pick king. Never FF.
Conclusion

Skarner is a very fun champion because you get to run around the map at blazing speeds, creating havoc wherever you decide to go. He is a safe pick because he does not have almost any awful matchups, and his kit helps cover up a lot of mistakes (we all make mistakes). His ulti is a game CHANGING ability which nullifies the opposing team's mvp or at least makes them buy qss. There is a lot of room to grow with skarner, but the one thing that will make your Skarner gameplay better is learning macro. The only way to learn macro is to practice and of course to watch my youtube videos;). Just kidding, but for real, drop by and say hey from time to time. Thanks for reading my guide and good luck on the rift, summoner.
