Thresh

Preferred Role:

Support

Thresh in nutshell:

Thresh is tanky support champion with really good cc. This is one of those supports who can make the calls and carry potentially bad adc. Thresh is quite beast at any stage of the gameplay. Early game you already have 2 really nice CC abilities and a ability to save your adc. Your lane is also very easy to gank. Once you reach teamfights stage, you can once again make the calls if you hit the right target. This is the reason tough why Thresh gets so much love in champion selection and champion bans.

I prefer that rune set-up for maximazing the defense in early lane. You do not want to get poked or pushed out from the lane. The flat armor will help the ADC poke, especially from aggressive early laners. The defensive glyphs and seals give you enough magic resistance and even more armor to take the hits from opposing laning partners and from minions, which hurt early on. You do want to exchange damage and harass with Thresh, because you have so good damage with your Flay passive, but we'll talk more about it in the abilities section. The health quints will scale well with your other defensive runes aswell.

Situational ability sequences (Q-W-E)

Quick Explanation

Abilities & Sequence

Damnation

" Thresh does not gain armor per level. Instead, Thresh collects the souls of dead enemies by approaching them or by placing Dark Passage's lantern nearby. Souls permanently grant armor and ability power. Champions and large minions always drop a harvest-able soul. Small minions only sometimes drop a soul.

A soul will only drop if the enemy unit dies within 1900 range of Thresh. Souls are visible to allies, and only become visible to enemies if the enemy team has vision of Thresh. Souls disappear if not picked up after 14 seconds."

Death Sentence

" Thresh throws out his scythe to latch onto the first enemy hit for 1.5 seconds, dealing magic damage and stunning them for the same duration. During this time Thresh cannot attack but will tug on his chains twice over the duration, each time pulling the hooked unit a short distance towards himself.

While a target is hooked, Thresh can reactivate this ability to pull himself to the bound enemy. This removes the stun but allows Thresh to attack again. "

Dark Passage

" Thresh throws his lantern to the target location, which remains there for up to 6 seconds. If an ally right-clicks it, they pick up the lantern and Thresh pulls them both back to his own location. If Thresh moves more than ~1500 units away, the lantern will return to him.

For the next 6 seconds, allies who come near the lantern (even while Thresh is holding it) gain a shield that absorbs damage for up to 4 seconds. Allies can only receive the shield once per cast.

Flay

"Passive: Thresh's basic attacks deal bonus magic damage on each hit. This value is equal to the total number of souls collected, plus a percentage of his attack damage based on the amount of time since his last attack.

Bonus Magic Damage: Souls + up to 80 / 110 / 140 / 170 / 200% AD

Active: Thresh sweeps his chain in a broad line towards a target direction. Enemies hit take magic damage, are knocked in the same direction as the chains, and are slowed afterwards for 1.5 seconds.

The Box

" Thresh summons 5 spectral walls around him that last up to 5 seconds. Enemy champions that touch a wall take magic damage and are slowed by 99% for 2 seconds, but break the wall. Once one wall is broken, the remaining walls deal half damage and apply half the slow duration. An enemy can be affected by multiple walls.

Explanation of Main ability sequence

Tips & Tricks

  • Double activate Death Sentence for increased stun duration
  • Throw Dark Passage to your jungler behind objetive for better ganks
  • Do not focus on collecting soul, if it requires taking damage
  • Use Flay to stop gap-closing abilities from reaching you
  • Throw Dark Passage to your ADC before engaging, forcing enemies to aggro you and your ADC closing the gap fast and effeticely

Team Fights

Thresh excels not only in laning phase, but also in team fights. You can make engagement or disengagement happen quite easily. There are so many things you can do that it's almost too good. Main focus on team fights is you using Death Sentence on any squishy / important target out of position or just simply anyone you can hit, but still using common sense. You don't want to hook Malphite for example. Then you simply re-activate Death Sentence and active your ultimate The Box. Then you have done your job and it's pretty much using auto-attacks, active items and possibly re-position your ADC or someone important taking chunks of damage with Dark Passage. You can also defend your teammate if enemies decide to engage. Here is a example video how Thresh works.

Thank you for reading trough everyone! I hope you didn't get bored and it wasn't too hard to understand the guide. This was not as in-depth as other guides maybe, but I hope it has about the same information in short. Feel free to post comment & rate and please leave some feedback!
