Weight Watchers Guide on Gragas

Hello!
Welcome to my in-depth guide on Gragas

I made this guide to help people with the somewhat complex champion Gragas. But after this guide, he will be as simple to understand as it is for him to eat.
When you actually master the beast that is Gragas, he is a force to be reckoned with. Ever since I started playing Gragas, I've felt that he is a champion worthy to master/main.
Well, I guess we should get on with the real guide. If found it useful, or just enjoyed the read, please give it a thumbs up, it helps a lot!

Passive: On ability use, Gragas takes a drink restoring 6% of his max Health. This effect can only happen every 8 seconds.

Q: Gragas rolls his cask to a location, which can be activated to explode or will explode on its own after 4 seconds. Enemies struck by the blast have their Movement Speed slowed.

Gragas rolls his cask to a location. When reactivated, or after 4 seconds, the cask will explode, dealing 80/120/160/200/240 (+70% Ability Power) magic damage to nearby enemies and slowing their movement speed by 40/45/50/55/60% for 2 seconds. The damage and slow amount increase as the cask ferments, up to 150% after 2 seconds. Deals 70% damage to minions.
Cost: 60/65/70/75/80 Mana
Range: 850

W: Gragas guzzles down brew from his cask for 1 second. After finishing, he becomes drunkenly empowered, dealing magic damage to all nearby enemies on his next basic attack and reducing damage received.

Gragas guzzles down his brew, taking 10/12/14/16/18% (+{{ charabilitypower2*100 }}%) reduced damage for 2.5 seconds (while drinking the brew and 1,5 sec after it is finished). After finishing his drink, his next basic attack deals magic damage to nearby enemies equal to 20/50/80/110/140 (+50% Ability Power) plus 7% of their max Health (max 300 vs monsters).
Cost: 30 Mana
Range: Adds 20 extra range on the empowered AA, great for attacking people/wards over walls.

E: Gragas charges to a location and collides with the first enemy unit he comes across, dealing damage to all nearby enemy units and stunning them.

Gragas charges forward, colliding with the first enemy unit. He deals 80/130/180/230/280 (+60% Ability Power) magic damage to enemies in the area and bumps them back, stunning them for 1 second. Body Slam's Cooldown is reduced by 3 seconds if Gragas collides with a unit. Keep in mind that you can knock up several people with one E, as a tool for setting up a Yasuo R.
Cost: 50 Mana
Range: 600

R: Gragas hurls his cask to a location, dealing damage and knocking back enemies caught in the blast radius.

Gragas hurls his cask, causing it to explode when it lands. Enemies hit take {{ Damage based on lvl of R }}(+70% Ability Power) magic damage and are knocked away from the explosion.

Here you have my favorite Gragas Youtuber Panunu who in my opinion is one of the best probably THE BEST Gragas right now. Watch his content to see how the best Gragas out there plays.
Lore

Equal parts jolly and imposing, Gragas is a massive, rowdy brewmaster on his own quest for the perfect pint of ale. Hailing from parts unknown, he now searches for rare ingredients among the unblemished wastes of the Freljord, trying each recipe as he goes. Often intoxicated and extremely impulsive, he is legendary for the brawls he starts, which often end in all-night parties and widespread property damage. Any appearance from Gragas must surely foreshadow drinking and destruction—in that order.

The foothills of the Great Barrier are home to the hardiest people found anywhere on Valoran. Only those with great fortitude and endurance dwell in what is perhaps the most rugged and unforgiving environment anywhere on the face of Runeterra. It is here that the mighty Gragas keeps permanent residence, living south of Noxus. This behemoth of a man has long eschewed the rigors of civilization for what he calls his "slice of paradise"; he has no neighbors to bother him and plenty of space to pursue his life's ambition - brewing. Grogs, ales, meads, and wine - nothing is beyond his skill to brew. What makes Gragas a truly special brewmaster, however, is his proximity to a large and powerful nexus.

The magic of this nexus has seeped into his fermented creations, and Gragas has consumed enough of his own poison over the years to slake the thirst of an army. This arcane alcohol has caused Gragas to swell both in height and girth; he looms over the tallest of men and boasts nearly twice their width. To complement his immoderate size, Gragas has developed an ornery temper - one fueled by liquor and raw magic. His infrequent sojourns into Noxus for supplies always unfold the same way: Gragas enters a Noxian tavern, Gragas gets into several fights, Gragas lays out countless citizens, and finally Gragas flees for the foothills with Noxian constables in hot - though reluctant - pursuit. His misadventures have garnered him the attention of several summoners in the League of Legends, and he is now a willing champion in the arenas...doling out hard liquor and harder fists.

(Shortly said, he's a master brewer with alcoholic issues)
When to pick Gragas

Gragas is one of the few champions which can go along with most teamcomps. He has great cc, a well-placed Gragas R can lead into separating their squishies (ADC, Assassin and such). Which leads into the tanks being alone without any damage dealers. You can most often pick him into anything because of his adaptability (except for when you are meeting some of his hard counters (E.G Warwick) I want you to remember that even if you ARE fighting your hard counter. It doesn't mean a 100% chance of loss. But keep in mind that it's also recommended to not 1v1 your counter at all times, since it will usually lead into them getting ahead and snowballing. But think of if your team needs another Ability Power scaling champion, or if they need an Attack Damage scaling champion.
Ganking

Ganking with Gragas can have several different routes. The reason why I go E at level 2 is because when I start Red, I can E over directly to Krugs so the clear is faster. Then go to Raptors. Blue buff -> Scuttler then look for ganks, there is none available keep farming.
So my usual clear will go: Red Buff (with leash) -> Krugs -> Raptors -> Blue Buff -> Scuttler.
Gragas first clear is a bit slow, but as soon as you get a small bit of AP you will be able to clear quite swiftly.
If you want to try out some vertical clearing with invasion which is when you path from your side to their side which is faster than regular pathing (but keep in mind that this is more dangerous since you're in their jungle). This is how it would look like with vertical pathing. If you want to do this you want to know where the opposite jungler is, so that you don't invade and he/she is there which will lead to you getting ganked by his teammates and you may die. If you take their red / blue (depending on if you are starting at your blue or red) they will most likely not know that unless they have warded. Therefore you can take your respective Buff that you stole from them. Keep in mind that you jump over the Baron pit/dragon pit wall with E to appear at their buff as quickly as possible which minimizes the chance of you getting caught.

Now in season 10 it is viable to do blue buff also since you will get level 3 from either side (Blue, Gromp and Wolfs / Red, krugs and Raptors). Therefore it is even riskier with vertical jungling since you cant know for sure where they start. But that also opens up new pathing possibilities for you!
When I start Blue side it usually plays out like this:
Blue (with leash) -> Gromp -> Red into either ganking or krugs/raptors.

You also have the alternatives of ganking at lvl 2 which I would recommend starting out with Red buff into ganking directly. Why Red you may ask? That's because Auto Attacks slow them which helps you to gank, it also does over-time damage so if they get under turret there is a slight chance of them dying to it. Before you do make sure if you want to lvl 2 gank, valuate who has mobility enough to get out of your gank. If there is a Katarina mid, she could easily get out (if she has E/lvl 2). Or do you want to gank the Tahm Kench top with almost zero mobility?
Gragas is above average at level 2 ganks, but not nearly as good as perhaps Zac is at ganking early. Therefore the gank may result in nothing but just a little poke to the laner. If you do try this I would recommend getting Q at lvl 1 then E since the Q has a slow which W doesn't. If you get off your combo correctly don't forget to Auto Attack after so it applies Red de-buffs.
Runes

Electrocute Runepage

Primary Runes

Electrocute Electrocute gives you a large amount of additional damage early, and provides a lot of burst late game. The extra damage early game makes you more viable in early skirmishes and gives you some kill pressure as people often understimate Gragas' damage.

is a great rune for gragas since he gets healing from the passive. If you have passive up and Taste of Blood while you are low hp, you will suddenly be able to heal from 20%hp to 40% (depending on where you are at in the game and build).

This gives you some nice bonus AP which is always welcome. Can also be swapped out for Ghost Poro if you want more vision control.

The additional healing Ravenous Hunter gives Gragas meshes well with his kit, it provides an additional 14% spellvamp on top of your passive which can often can be the difference between living on 100hp or not at all.

Secondary Runes

Gives you that extra Cooldown reduction that you need for Gragas. Helps out with pretty much everything from fighting to dis-engaging.

Is a great rune for late game scaling. It gives you a set amount of Adaptive Damage (in this case AP) based on how far into the game you are.
Summary

Gragas is a great character with adaptability and can be played at most lanes. Like Jungle, Support, Mid and Top. You can build either Full tank, or burst people like a balloon with AP Gragas. He is an amazingly fun champion and can be tricky to learn. But he is one of the most rewarding junglers I know.

Aim to do your first clear then gank, clear your 2nd raptors & krugs then gank again.

Gragas is great at almost all times in the game, except the first 5 minutes were he is mediocre.
