Monkey King is a very aggressive early game champion with great damage and useful abilities.
You can play Wukong in deferent ways, but in my opinion tanky/dps build is the most effective in team fights and could bring victory to your team.

This runes will give you extra armor and magic resist, stacking with your passive it would provide you basic defense.

Greater Quintessence of Desolation Greater Mark of Desolation

Stacking with and this runes will be very useful to make early kills.

I chose first branch of masteries because of useful and others, which Monkey King is needed to have. Also I put some points into 2nd branch to increase your defense stats.
If you want to play the role of tank in your team you should distribute points into the 2nd branch but i suppose that Wukong doesn't depend on masteries.

Good first item to stay on line, but if u don't like it you can buy and 3x to be more mobile and be more resistant to enemy nukes.



In my opinion it is necessary to buy this item as soon as you can, because maxing at the beginning will give you incredible damage with Sheen's passive. Also extra mana will help you staying on line as long as it possible.



Very useful, because of hes passive, that will stack with your runes and masteries.



"Must Have" item in dps build. Good bonus damage, health, attack speed, movement and of course great Unique passives, that would make you very dangerous in mid game.

With this items I provide good survival rate to Wukong, give him an opportunity to initiate team fight.



The last item item will give you more armor and very useful passive. 2% of your total health from , and will be converted into your attack damage.

Also you can choose some good items to your monkey:



To boost your damage.



If there are some armored guys in enemy team.

or

If you need lifesteal.



Also good item instead of Randuin's Omen.



Is the alternative to if you want more movement speed.

1.Crushing Blow
I maxed this ability first to lasthit minions and beat my opponents. It has low mana cost and cd, so very effective in harassment.

2.Decoy
Perfect escape skill could mislead enemies. You can use it in brushes or during the fight, enemy can cast abilities and summoner spells on your copy, at that time while you will be in safety. And if you have flash it isn't very difficult to use Decoy and flash away from anybody. Also you can initiate team fights using Nimbus Strike on enemies and Decoy after that.

3.Nimbus Strike
Blink to your opponents to deal small amount of damage. It is also increase your attack speed, and you can use it on minions to escape if someone going to gank you.

4.Cyclone
Good ultimate also useful in team fights, because of knocking up and dealing continued aoe damage.
You can use Nimbus Strike with Crushing blow to deal unexpected damage, combining it with your ultimate and make fast kills.

I always pick this spell to dps champions, sometimes it could help you to kill some champs who have Flash and other escape abilities.



Very good spell can help you kill as well as escape. Combine it with Decoy and nobody could catch you.

You can also choose:

To disable enemy ad carry and to slow the escaping units.

Also good spell, but I think Monkey King has enough mobility.

Wukong is a great liner, but in my opinion he can't stay solo top without any problems, he will need some lifesteal from arts. And the best way is to go on line with some cc champion. He is a good ganker it is necessary to gank mid on level 6 or earlier and check the forest for enemy jungler.
