Would you read "ugly" guides that provide useful content?

Advertising your guide is against the rules. This is an opinion thread, not a request for review thread.

Correct.

I let the mention of your Jax guide slide since you used it as an example of your writing style, but other than that you shouldn't need to point people to other guides to accomplish the purpose of this thread.
Thanks to Jovy for the sig!

He disagreed with where Mobafire was going and didn't want to be part of it anymore. Plus he wanted to get gold :)

I voted no. As a pre-service English teacher I have to read a lot of literature, including books, articles and journal chapters. The books etc I can get my head around much easier, are those with graphs, tables, diagrams and/or figures that explain the relationship between theories, ideas and concepts.

When I am tasked to a reading which is 20 pages long, single spaced - I skim. I ctrl+v any important terms I have to be looking for "socio-cultural lens", "equity", "scaffolding", and read the sentence before and after the found word. If it is interesting, I'll keep reading. If not, I'll use the first reference I find and manage to make it fit my assessment.

However, if the reading is manageable, the monotony broken up by boxes of "important information" etc, I am far more likely to read the whole article.

"Every man can transform the world from one of monotony and drabness to one of excitement and adventure."
- Irving Wallace

“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”
-Lenoardo Da Vinci

Because I can find quotes too.

In all seriousness though:

I believe the information is primarily what a guide should be rated on not how pretty it is. It's absurd how many ****ty guides are higher rated because they "look better". I'm not saying a guide without any formatting, or just a literal wall of text is what I want, of course not. But "going the extra mile" to the extent that it absolutely obscures THE CONTENT of a guide is moronic and honestly a reason I feel a majority mobafire voters are incapable of making an objective vote. They see pretty lights and colors and think "ooo shiny this guide is gud derpderpderp".

But this is like beating a dead horse, most people should know I prefer a guide with good content over good looks.

I've never managed to read Duff's guides, but I think it's more because of what he wrote & how he wrote it rather than what it looked like:

I would link a good old Master Yi guide, which is actually totally outdated put it doesn't matter. It is on leaguecraft.

The Dark Arts of Master Yi.

Yeah it doesn't look perfect like our guides, but back in its time it was a very good thing to read because it combined funny parts with very good informations. Also it is mostly wall of text, but, just read it and find out yourself.
