How do you feel about the profanity filter?
Yes. I would prefer it, I don't like profanity.
Maybe. I'm indifferent, it wouldn't affect my enjoyment of the site.
No. We should be allowed to speak freely.

Well yeah, it's obvious in my OP that there are reasons for me to want to do it, otherwise I'd not have said anything :)

The hesitation I have is that you guys will hate it and it will be a mutiny, that's basically the reason for this thread/poll, to determine what your reactions would be to it. Our time should be spent working on things that you guys enjoy, and as such I'm happy to keep the filter off for members if it's something that would detract from your enjoyment, so definitely speak up if that's the case :)

@Lugignaf, even with a filter on that kind of behavior should be discouraged for sure. "XXX member is a *******" isn't any better with or without the stars, either way it's a personal attack and should be reported. However, I suppose the ******s may soften the blow to the one being attacked, even just a little.

Anyways I'll keep the poll rolling for a bit and if there are no major objections, we may give it a go. It's not necessarily permanent, if it really ends up sucking we can go back if need be. And like I said, we can tweak things to find a good compromise between achieving the goals of the filter and keeping everyone happy.

"Remember when the platform was sliding into the fire pit and I said "Goodbye" and you were like "No way!"
and then I was all "We pretended we were going to murder you?" That was great."

I voted no. In my opinion we should be allowed to speak freely as long as the profanity isn't directed at anyone on MOBAFire in the form of flaming.

Need any help? Feel free to send me a message! The forums can get quite busy :)

I'm just worried sometimes about the kids that visit here. I know my baby brother (7) stumbled onto MobaFire. He rang me and said, "jhoi, I saw your name on mobafire!" (my family actually refers to me as jhoi lol) He gets suspended from LoL all the time, because allies think he feeds (he uses a touch pad o.o) and when I visit him, I always make sure the language filter is on in-game to protect him.

I realise this may be an "extreme" case, but if my brother plays LoL (albeit badly) and browses MobaFire, it's not that much of a stretch to assume there are a lot of young people lurking around (pretty sure Yougan was like 12, when he joined).

If this was an adult website, I wouldn't expect a language filter.

But because this is accessible to anyone, I think it's kind of necessary.

An alternative is instead of placing ***'s, create something funny to replace profanity:

"That game was mother-fruitcaking bad!", "!@#S!" etc

The game is actually rated 13+, so technically anyone younger shouldn't even be playing or accessing websites about the game in the first place. For me at least I and all my friends were swearing like crazy at 13. :P

I'd be fine with it being on automatically and people having to opt out of it, but that wouldn't solve the problem Matt is talking about.
