personally, i think that guide comments should have at least a certain number of words required (eg. 10 words). this may prevent a little of troll voting and saying something like "..." as your reason. many people get quite mad when someone downvotes their guide and leaves a comment of "...". course they could say "you suck you suck you suck you suck you suck", but it might just prevent some people who are too lazy that they dont wanna type anything else.

people who also upvote and just say "+1" don't really say anything to encourage the author or help them improve their guide. even saying a "keep up the good work~" is a lot more encouraging than just saying "+1". course criticism is certainly welcomed, but personally, i think an extra word requirement on comments would help this community improve.

what do you guys say?

I think this would discourage voting if people have to fill a quota of words. But at the same time, upper class sites that involve voting (like Best Recipes) demands a minimum character count, and the reviews are always helpful; "I added a pinch of extra rosemary", "I substituted the plain flour for gluten free and it tasted fabulous".

I like the idea of seeing how much we have typed in a post. A running character count in the bottom left hand corner would be great :)

People on the site usually do not want to write a lot or even anything, they just want to vote and have it voice their opinion. I fear having this would discourage voting.

We certainly do not want less votes :)

Sometimes, a few words can do what thousands cannot do.

i personally feel if you actually liked a guide, a small comment would be good.

"If I like a guide, but don't feel like commenting, and C2V is enabled, I'll skip voting all together." - This is the case for a lot of people when it comes to C2V as it is now.

Especially on sites such as this where the majority of the visitors are "stalkers". By that I mean they read guides and vote, but refuse to post anything. It's a gaming site about creating guides, most people coming and going do not care enough to give you that comment; a vote on the other hand takes a few seconds.

thanks Hogopogo for the banner :D

I feel like if we did that the new troll vote would just be "...................................." so I don't think it would solve anything, and like people have said it would discourage upvotes as well.

We just need to get rid of C2V ^.^

Thanks to GrandMasterD for my sig!

That might be a good idea. I don't feel it really contributes anything. At best it delays downvotes on a good guide (whether for revenge, competition or w/e). At worst it either raises the score of a bad guide super high or discourages voting altogether.

I think an option on your comment to show your vote would be cool though. A lot of people ask how to get the green +1 bar (when C2V is off) to show on their comment. It would be nice to be able to leave a comment with the vote bar manually instead of it being tied to C2V.

Thanks to Minho for the sig!

Not gonna happen (forced anything on votes). Reasons are generally already stated in this thread, but also elsewhere. We're more likely to drop C2V altogether, it is a flawed "solution" to a perceived problem. It's only here because authors demand it rather violently :P
