Introduction

Hello everyone! Welcome to my guide on Brand the Burning Vengeance. This guide will lead you on your first step on learning Brand as well as some tips on how to play him effectively. I have also noticed that Brand guides on mobafire aren't that top notch, so I'm here to make a difference. This guide will contain simple and noob friendly explanations with both survivability and damage. Please enjoy my guide have good luck!

Brand is a champion with very unique and enjoyable playstyle. It's so fun getting off your full combo, crushing the enemy team with your HUGE aoe damage and your burst. Smart playstyle will reward you when you're playing brand.

CONS

  • Very good laner/team fighter.
  • Little mana problems.
  • Massive aoe damage.
  • DoT passive.
  • Huge burst.
  • Tankier than most mages.
  • Awesome voice actor.
  • Super Effective against Maokai.
  • You have pants.

CONS

  • Somewhat squishy.
  • Relies on full combo.
  • You need a brain.

Mastery/Rune/Summoner Spells

MASTERIES

I take the same 9/0/21 with almost all the ap casters except maybe ryze.

OFFENSIVE TREE
  • Slight AP boost.
  • CD reduction.
  • !15% SPELL PEN!

UTILITY TREE
  • Reduced death timer.
  • Improved health/mana regeneration.
  • !MORE EXP GAINED!
  • More gold.
  • More mana.
  • !IMPROVED BUFF DRUATION!
  • !INCREASED MOVEMENT SPEED!
  • !IMPROVED FLASH/SHORTER SUMMONER SPELL CD!
  • !COOLDOWN REDUCTION!
(*Note: Don't take Expanded Mind. It is bugged. It's not even worth it anyways.)

RUNES

Marks:
I chose Greater Mark of Insight for Brand cause brand deals magic damage. duh.

Seals: Greater Seal of Replenishment
I take Greater Seal of Clarity and Greater Seal of ReplenishmentGreater Seal of Replenishment to just get enough mana regen to get me through laning phase and later on.

Glyphs:
I prefer Greater Glyph of Potency supplement my AP. Also, Greater Glyph of Insight works like a charm for brand.

Other Viable Glyphs:
Greater Glyph of Focus - Flat CD reduction for lane dominance.
Greater Glyph of Celerity - To dominate late game.

Quints:
I get Greater Quintessence of Swiftness to make sure I have enough mobility through out the game and be able to kite anyone as the game goes on.
Also is a great choice for Brand. Since I will be starting with boots + 3 pots, I will need the health to back it up.

Other Viable Quints:
Greater Quintessence of Potency is great for more AP and for that early game dominance.

SUMMONER SPELLS

Flash
Instant reposition, escape mechanism. Can be used both aggressively or defensively.

Ignite
More DoT. More Damage. 50% Health Gain Reduction. What more do you want?
_____

Ghost
Escape mechanism. Gets you in and out of fights. I prefer Flash over this.

Teleport
Lets you teleport to a target minion/wards/towers after a delay. Useful on pushing towers, getting dragon/baron, and jumping into team fights.

Final Choices:

Flash and Ignite for offensive/defensive reasons.

Items

In this section of the guide I will show and explain what items to get on Brand.

Starting Items

These are items that I chose to be items you should get early game.

Boots of Speed
Great starting item for anyone. I always take boots of speed when I mid. Why? First of all, boots is one of those item where you can build it into any item you want later. Secondly, if you take Doran's Ring you have no counter to harassments. If you take boots, you have the option to start with 3 health potions.

Health Potions
So 35 gold for 200 health. So it's about 5.7 health for 1 gold. Each second you gain 1 gold, which means 5.7 health each seconds. Wow, what a great item. Also you can get 3 of these to start with when you take boots of speed as your starting item. Also, if you take the mastery Greed, you get extra 5.7 health every 10 seconds.
_____

Doran's Ring
More Health. More AP. More Mana Regen. Get this item on your first trip back.

Sorcerer's Shoes
Sorcerer's Shoes is great for any AP carry. Increased movement speed and more magic pen? Yes please.

Core Items

These items are items that I will ALWAYS get on brand, no matter what.

Blasting Wand
Try to get a Blasting Wand after you get your Sorcerer's Shoes. Blasting Wand is a very versatile item that can be built into many different items.

Rabadon's Deathcap
Ah Rabadon's Deathcap. Not only does this item give you 140 AP itself, it also gives you a freakin' 30% boost on your total AP. Build this item from the Blasting Wand you got earlier if you're rocking the house.
_____

Rylai's Crystal Scepter
This item is amazing on brand. Why? It gives you mass amount of health, AP, and a slow that your passive applies. During team fights you will be able to proc Ryalai's on almost every enemy team. Get this item first instead of Rabadon's Deathcap if your team lacks CC and losing slightly.

Void Staff
This item is a necessity on almost every AP champions towards late game when you start to see a lot of Banshee's Veils, Force of Nature, and Quicksilver Sash

Late Game Choices

In this section I will show and explain different item choices that you can take after core items.

Will of The Ancients
Most of the time after I finish my core build, I go for Will of the Ancients. It has spellvamp, helpful aura to your team, and good in exchanging pokes.

Banshee's Veil
I almost every game will take Banshee's Veil. That bubble is so good in team fights, on top of that it gives you MR, health, as well as mana.
_____

Zhonya's Hourglass
If the enemy team has heavy physical damage and you are having a hard time positioning yourself? Take Zhonya's Hourglass instead of Banshee's Veil! It gives you AP, armor, and a nice little active that makes you invincible for a short time. It's like icing on a cake.

Other Viable Items

These are items that are not recommended but still viable.

Morello's Evil Tome
This item isn't that bad for brand for early through mid game, but falls off late game.

Quicksilver Sash
Great item to have if they have a Morde, or Malzahar to counter their DoT and Ult. (NOTE:QUICKSILVER SASH CANCLES EVERY DEBUFFS FROM YOU INCLUDING RED BUFF AND EVEN IGNITE. IT REMOVES EVERYTHING!)
_____

Deathfire Grasp
If you really want to build Deathfire Grasp you can. Just build an early Kage's Lucky PickKage's Lucky Pick and finish it. Not bad of an item really.

Rod of Ages
I mean why not? Health, mana, and AP. The bad side is it takes time to reach its full potential and costs a bit much.

Skills/How To Use Them

In this section of the guide I explain what each skill of Brand does.

Passive: Blaze
This passive is very nice to have. It finishes off low hp enemies, procs on hit effects, and I actually stole a baron kill with this passive.

Q: Sear
Not one of Brand's best abilities. It is very hard to land during laning phase due to the clump of minions in mid. But if you can pull it off, it's gonna do tons of damage.

W: Pillar of Flame
Brand's bread and butter skill. When the target is blazed, it will deal 25% more damage. Very easy to land. Just cast it when they get close to last hit and boom. 1/3 of their health gone.

E: Conflagration
Your combo start for most cases. It's a point-and-click ability so E>Q>W deals the most damage in a 1v1 situation. Very useful for farming as well.

R: Pyroclasm
This ultimate is great. It will blaze every enemy team in team fights, deal massive damage, and not a very long cool down. The only thing it needs is faster projectile speed.

Skill Sequence

Raise Pyroclasm whenever possible, Pillar of Flame second, Conflagration third, and Sear last. Raise Sear at level 3 so you can use your full combo early.

Possible Combos

One Vs. One situation:
First, start by using Conflagration on the enemy champion and blazing the opponent. Then land Sear thus stunning the enemy. Now finish off your combo by using Pillar of Flame on him/her. Pyroclasm/ ignite if needed.

Summary:E>Q>W>R/Ignite

Teamfights:
First, let's wait for a tank to initiate. Look for a good time to cast Pyroclasm so it will hit almost everyone in the enemy team. Then cast your Pillar of Flame to deal massive amount of damage to them. Then you have two options. If your carry is getting focused by someone and need help, use your Sear to stun the enemy and focus him down. Or, if the enemy is still clumped up together, cast your Conflagration to deal HUGE damage to them.

IF your ult is down for a team fight, start with Pillar of Flame, Sear (focus down the stunned enemy), to finish them off.

Also, don't forget to use your actives (i.e Quicksilver Sash or Zhonya's Hourglass.)

Ignite someone with lots of health regen like Taric, or Mundo.

Farming

In this section of the guide I will explain how to farm efficiently as Brand from early to late game.

Farming with Brand just gets easier and easier as the game goes on. Early on, you just wanna last hit with your auto attacks to the best of your abilities. When you gain some AP and get your second boots, you'll be able to melt down ranged creeps with your Pillar of Flame + Conflagration combo. If your Pillar of Flame is on CD, use Sear to blaze a creep, and follow up with your Conflagration to finish them up.

Here's a video guide to make it easier to understand: Credits to whoever made the video, I take no credit.
(NOTE:I do not recommend using your Pyrcolasm to get buffs. Unless it's REALLY nessasary.)

Team Fighting

In this section of the guide I will explain how to dominate team fights as Brand.

Team fighting as Brand is all about positioning, skill usage, and just pure luck.

There are some key factors to think about before initiating a team fight.
  • Make sure there aren't any minions around, you don't want your PyrcolasmPyroclasm wasted on minions.
  • Try to fight in the river/jungle area. It is crowded and your AoE damage will be MASSIVE.
  • Try to bait them to use flash, they counter your ult.
  • Use Sear to stun, not to damage. Try to focus their AP carry/ AD carry.
  • Position yourself so you are out of harms way. You only have your auto attacks when your spells on cool down.
  • Don't initiate the team fight, it's not your job.

Wait for the tank to initiate. Start with Pillar of Flame. Try to blaze as many as them. Then use your conflagration on the most vulnerable target you can find. Next you have two choices, IF their carry isn't dead, try to stun him/her by Sear. IF the carry is in a safe position, find the next closest target that is blazed and use Pyroclasm.

Here's a sloppy video made by me. It may be too laggy for you, but you'll get the picture.

Brand Vs Mid

In this section of the guide I will explain how Brand can be a devastating mid and hwo to deal with certain champions in mid.

What I have in mind is as I continue to play Brand, I've seen all sorts of mid. Heck, I even met Tryndamere mid against me. I will make videos of me as Brand, facing different champion in Mid.

Brand Vs. Mid
I know it's not the best quality/gameplay in the world, but I will try to improve from now on. After all it's my first video ever.
