Hey, I'm back finally :D I feel like we're only Diana players on here. xD

Welp I would like you to see this, I calculated our builds on LeagueCraft. Even if I had 160 AP less because you have Deathfire Grasp and Abyssal Mask.

here's picture - maybe it's better if you open it in new tab:
[EDIT] so here's link because img is too damn huge xD

http://oi62.tinypic.com/24drc4g.jpg

So I added Abyssal Mask instead of Guardian Angel, because the only reason I used it is because I will gain a little bit of armor against adc and to ensure my survival after a fight.
But Abyssal Mask will surly help me to deal more damage and ignore AP Carrys dmg. But Guardian is still better choice if you are playing against AD mid like yasuo etc.

And all I wanna say is that you will kill one enemy and than wait for your CDs, and than try to combo next one, whilst I'll need time to kill one, but than instantly jump on other and repeat all that - simply because I rely on passive a lot. And still deal bunch of dmg with spells.

Sorry for the extremely late response, I haven't been on MOBAFire these past few days xD

Indeed, that is the definition of AP Carries and Assassins. Another definition is: "An assassin is an agile champion that specializes in killing or disabling high value targets. Focused on infiltration, deception, and mobility, assassins are opportunistic hunters who find favorable moments within a fight before jumping into the fray. Regardless of the size of the enemy team, assassins specialize in positioning and artful killing. They strike when the time is right – no sooner, no later." (Source).

However, if you take Nashor's Tooth and Fury , you are focusing on doing sustained damage, throughout the entirety of the teamfight. Assassins are people who wait and stay out of the fight, until they get an opening to go in and kill high priority targets. This is most favorable if you can pull off a lot of burst in a short amount of time, which makes assassinating much easier as the window of opportunity can be taken advantage of. Taking items that take advantage of your attack speed does not amplify your burst, as you want to get as many autoattacks off as possible to increase the efficiency of your item. More autos inherently means a longer period of time that you are attacking, which gives the enemy more time to lock you down.

If you want this kind of playstyle, defensive runes are of even more importance. This playstyle, as I'm sure you know, is that of a Fighter: "Fighters are close range combatants that possess a mix of offensive and defensive capabilities. While they don't have as much utility as a tank or as much damage as an assassin, a fighter's damage will add up over time to make it a major threat. Each fighter has a unique blend of mobility, damage, disruption and durability." (Source).

Runes are the bare minimum, since they increase the effectiveness of your shield, as well as keeps you alive for a good deal longer. This means that you can take advantage of the survivability to get additional auto attacks off.

Okay, here's what lol wiki says:
- Mages are the sister-role of Carries. Carries do Physical Damage, Mages do Magic Damage. They both serve pure-damage, usually ranged roles, and of the two opposing damage types.

- Assassins are not purely burst-attackers, but ambushers. Assassins also have gap closers, stealth, or other tricky movement, sneaking, or disabling abilities, to pull off surprise attacks.

And that's exactly how I understand those words. xD

Also i use Nashor's Tooth and Fury because I believe that her passive will do more in fights mixed with huge AP dmg and penetration items. Whenever I played her this way I didn't failed. (except when my whole match was huge trash).
I just don't know, I guess this is why we have two building guides. :D Cheers

In that case, you've got the names mixed around xD Assassins are high burst champions who can delete a squishy champion off the map in a second. They're usually reliant on abilities that have deal a lot of damage. In addition, they build items that benefit said burst. What your build is suggesting is a more sustained damage path, since you have Fury and Nashor's Tooth. If you are actually next to the enemy long enough so that you can take advantage of the (very slightly) increased attack speed, then you are not building Diana as an assassin.

My point with taking no defensive runes is that regardless of whether or not your shield is more powerful, you have no armor/MR to back it up, other than your base defenses. You could build 6 Warmogs to look "tanky", but that does not mean you are actually a tank. Mana regen shouldn't be all that much of a problem, so long as you are managing your mana well. Plus, as you said yourself, if you have Blue buff, you will get mana regen from that.

I just checked your Diana's build guide :)

There are differences because you are playing her as AP Carry, not as Assassin. Well, maybe I use AP Carry and Assassin words properly. I'll explain myself - Our masteries and runes are different because you rely on her Abilities through whole match while I'd rely on abilities in early and on abilities and passive in late game. Or I should say her passive will be highlighted in late game.

I don't think she's very squishy against other mid laners because she have Pale Cascade - shield that helps her a lot. Since I use full AP Quints and Marks, her shields will be stronger (Shield Strength: 40/55/70/85/100 (+30% AP) Max Shield Strength: 80/110/140/170/200 (+60% AP). Plus if you have Greater Seal of Mana Regeneration you will be able to use Pale Cascade often without hesitation if you should use it now or 10 seconds later. PLUS if you take blue buff you will gain + mana regen and + cooldown reduction.

I hope I explained it well enough. :D

And yeah, Fury doesn't mean much in early game, but in mid and late game it will show its purpose. Sorcery is useful too, and could be skilled in this build ether but there are much AP items that will give you Cooldown Reduction Nashor's Tooth; Deathfire Grasp; Morellonomicon etc. I think Attack Speed will bring more goods than CD reduction.

That's exactly the point I was trying to make with Rod of Ages. If you don't rush it, it isn't efficient because of the time it needs to stack. Defensive items are most often the 3rd or 4th item you get, which can be at the 30 minute mark. By then, if you get RoA, it won't be good because it'll only be half stacked, especially at this point in the game where teamfights are crucial.

Diana in particular needs defense. All of her abilities (except for Q) are melee ranged abilities, so she's within retaliation range of her oppenent. Running glass cannon on her isn't wise simply because you'll be killed yourself as soon as you get within 200 units of the enemy, ranged or not. In addition, defensive runes/masteries scale really well with her W, since it makes her deceptively tanky. Her double shield can give her an extra 100 "health" even with just a single skill point in it. There's absolutely no reason to having extra health if you have no Armor/MR, because it can easily be shredded otherwise.

Fury may be better later for splitpushing, but early game does nothing. I would be surprised if you could get more than 2 autos off on the enemy, champion OR minion. I would rather have the half a second lower cooldown on all of my abilities to farm and poke from a safe distance, then have a 0.03 second decrease between autoattacks.

Thank you for paying attention and the compliment about my guide and its appearance. ^^

I see what you want to say about Void Staff thing. While making guide I switched "Must Have" and "Choose One" for i don't know what reason, thanks for drawing my attention to it.

About Rod of Ages - I don't really like that item on Diana too, but it will help you if you're not tough enough to counter your opponent. It's hard to become Assassin if you start with this item. It's among defensive items because you really shouldn't buy that item first.

Basically to me it's important to know if my opponent is hard to counter or not. If it is - it's very easy to play defensive and bother my jungeler for help. I'd recommend to buy Needlessly Large Rod in the beginning of the game and shortly after - when you bought one of Zhonya's Hourglass, Rabadon's Deathcap, Deathfire Grasp - you can shut down your opponent or "assassinate" him.

Initially I play Diana aggressively and that's why I don't matter about defensive runes. Def fight before bunch of gold and than Aggressive Fight. It's like I will fight and kill or I will def and wait. Some people would call this build "blue" which stands for defensive I guess.

Sorcery and Fury - Well it depends from person to person. I use Fury because I rely on her passive - Moonsilver Blade. But oh well, you can skill Sorcery as well.

Nice guide! The coding's done really well, and the core concepts are down. However, as a Diana player, I have a couple things I feel like you'll really need to address in your own guide:

Your cheat sheet is extremely misleading, due to you having Void Staff before any of the other choices that you listed. Of course, when I read over the guide itself, you said "No use of much AP when you have no MP. So make place for this item after buying one of these babys: Rabadon's Deathcap; Zhonya's Hourglass; Deathfire Grasp." But from your cheat sheet alone, you imply that you must get Void Staff first before any of the others. I would recommend switching it around for clarity.

Rod of Ages should not be classified as a "defensive item" due to defensive items being bought relatively later into the game. If you don't quickly rush RoA, it doesn't do very well because the passive needs to stack over a period of 10 minutes. If you're going to get it, it needs to be one of the very first items you get. But to be completely honest, I don't like it very much on Diana anyways.

Sorcery is a better choice over Fury due to Diana being melee. More often than not, you'll be zoned in lane, and having the shorter cooldown on your abilities will help a lot more than 5% Attack Speed. Besides, if you're being zoned, I highly doubt that you'll be able to take advantage of the slightly increased attack speed.

Finally, your runes are very... ambitious o_O Diana in particular, you want to have a lot of defense on due to her close ranged abilities. I'd take Greater Seal of Scaling Health and Greater Glyph of Magic Resist instead for the survivability.
