Introduction

All hail the queen of light!

Hey there, Xanas here.

I made this guide in hope to get feedback, and because i saw the nr. 1 guide atm. (no offence), But I'm playing Leona in a other way, regarding the item build and masteries etc.
Bear with me, and the lots of hard reading stuff, hope there will be some interested readers out there :).

What and why

Leona is a very solid tank, and she plays the role of AP/tank/support/disabler class. Because of her low scaling AP-ratio I play Leona in a way that surprices my opponents carries, and disables them. She has a great ability "Zenith Blade" which allows her to travel to the back of the groupe, and with Leona's low mana cost on each spell, and a very low CD on her ulti "Solar Flare" she's can stay in fight for as long as you wish!

Masteries

As you maybe have found out, Leona is a tank, and deffinently not anything else, I'll go deeper into that in the guide.
But to start off with, the masteries. The reason why i have done 9-21-0 is because Leona can be very agressive in the start, and with the extra CD reduction + Mpen and the extra skill in Exhaust. And for the defensive masteries i choose not to take "Strength of Spirit" (health reg equal to mana), also because my build dosen't include much mana.

Runes

Leona is strong in health, getting of start well means you can get "Sunfire Cape" early and gain the more health and armor and therefore heavy surviveability. The Runes are ment to enchant Leona with more resistance, because she already has a lot of HP as she lvl's and gains items. And again, for "main mark-runes" you'll stack Mpen, for the early game harrassment, but also good dmg later.

Summoner Spells

Flash
There's not much to say here. I take flash in 99% of all cases, just because it works incredible well with encountering and escaping team fights and other viablle situations.

Exhaust
I chose Exhaust because of the disable function Leona has. When you dash in, activate "Randuin's Omen" and exhaust their nr. 1 AD carry, it usually helps your team alot!

Other optional summoner spells

Ignite
If not more than 1 choose to take ignite, and you play against other champions with alot of lifesteal, or heal. And the reason why it works great on Leona, is because she is really good at chaseing.

Ghost
Really good spell for encountering and chaseing

Clairvoyance
If your the only supporter on your team, Clairvoyance is great for map control, and to get into position

Fortify
This is just one of the most effective summoner spells ever. It works perfektly on lane, in a defensive way, and with multiple stuns, you can keep the enemy in range of tower.

Clarity/b]
Leona has a really low mana cost on her abilities, this makes Clarity totally useless.

Skill Sequence

Q > W > E > W > W > R > W > Q > W > Q > E > R > Q > E > Q > R > E > E

I always start with "Shield of Daybreak" for either first blood, or just if the oppenents on a lane is very agressive in the start, you have a chance to fight back. "Shield of Daybreak" refreshes your CD on attack + it damages towers, this ability really came in handsome!
After i played my first matches with Leona, i choose to reconsider the CD reduction you get from skilling in "Shield of Daybreak(Q)", instead of the damage output from skilling "Zenith blade(E)". Because it's crucial as support/tank to protect your carries, and what other way would be better than lots of stun?

Starting items

Regrowth Pendant
With this starting item, you are alowed to both play very agressive, and stay on lane for more xp and money, until you can buy both "Philosopher's stone" and "Heart of Gold".

Core items

Sunfire Cape
This item is the greatest damage you'll ever get as a supportive tank + the good armor and hp, go get it boys!

Randium's Omen
Randium's Omen
Another excellent item, again it stacks armor and Hreg, but also it has an activate that helps your team m8's reach the convicted target, it also reduces their chance to spread, and there for more aoe dmg output from your "W" and your team.

Aegis of the Legion
One of the best supportive items is "Aegis of the Legion", because all the stats recieved is multiplied with 5x. The stats are incredible, and with Randium's omen, and Sunfire cape as starting item, you wanna stack some MR, get it!

Banshee's Veil
The nr. 1 (or?) item, absorbs 1 spell every 45 sec, and it gives you the MR you need together with "Eclips(W)".

Optional items

Thornmail
Yes, there is a reason why i placed this at the top. Thornmail is excellent for countering AD carries like:

Frozen Heart
Frozen Heart also counters AD carries, reducing their AS with 20% and it also gives you 99 armor + 20% CD.. You know what? It's actually a pritty nice item, go get it! :)

Force of Nature
The one item granting the most MR, and if you buy it now, you'll also recieve 0.35% Hreg equal to maximum health and 8% movement speed!

Abyssal Scepter
For the great aura, MR and abillity power granted.
You'll need the extra MR in the build against hard AP carries, and the aura works perfectly with both your own and your teams abilities.

Ionian Boots of Lucidity
For the extra CD reduction, which is so great on Leona.

Warmog's Armor
Leona already has a lot of health, I don't see why she shouldn't have more and in combination with Warmog's you could try go more agressive together with

Atma's Impaler
But i wouldn't recommend this unless it's for a try, I havn't tried it my self but i could imagin it would work perfectly together with a little AS.

If you wanna know what i think about "Trinity Force" or "Lichbane" I'll try it, but if you like the other way around it would be great as well.

Guardian Angel
Guardian's Angel is a "real life saver", you can buy this in combination with

Mejai's Soulstealer or

Leviathan
Helping you stacking up.
