Things you should know!

1) Jayce is a melee and range champion
2) He haven't got any ultimate skills, he got this Mercury Hammer Mercury Cannon to switch whenever he wants and each form have unique abilities
3) Very strong Top lane champion with his range he could poke the enemy out of the lane or deny his CS and hes good in mid lane aswell
4) Jayce can wave clear fast
5) Huge mana problem in early game

Farming

1) Easy to farm with his range form
2) Has an AoE skill on his melee form that deals magic damage per second and gives back mana each time you strikes a minion
3) If sometimes you are slow to last hit and you feel like missing a few CS because of it Jayce range form Hyper Charge increase attack speed with this it helps alot aswell

About Jayce's Skills

Range Form

1) Shock Blast itself deals damage but while Shock Blast through the Acceleration Gate increase speed, range and power almost impossible to dodge
2) Hyper Charge Rapidly increase speed that can auto attack 3 times
3) Acceleration Gate this skill is so damn useful in all sort of situation because you could use it to escape or you could use for the team purpose either chase or escape
4) Hyper Charge While activate this skill you could also change into melee form the skill still activate you could either auto attack on melee form or use skills

Melee Form

1) To The Skies! You jump on a target within range that deals good damage
2) Lightning Field This skill is an AoE magic damage skill that helps with farming which could refund back some mana each auto attack you strike
3) Thundering Blow Awesome skill on Jayce you could wack the enemy away which ever direction you want them to be , perfect skill for escape with the Acceleration Gate if you could time it perfectly

Jayce's [R]

1) While you switch back and fourth Mercury Cannon Mercury Hammer gives quite a long cooldown so becareful have a good timing on It
2) Each time you switch forms it gives you movement speed Hextech Capacitorfor a small period of time so take advantage of this because It would help while getting away from a gank
3) Mercury Hammer gives magic resist and defense and It increases each time you level
4) Mercury Cannon The first auto attack reduces the enemy armor and magic resist for 10%
5) Mercury Hammer The first attack deals an additional magic damage

Best combos on Jayce

1 ) Position your Acceleration Gate just on top of your character and then Shock Blast through it this you could maintain the movement speed from Acceleration Gate not wasting a second of it

2 ) Shock Blast first then activate Acceleration Gate afterwards this can prevent enemy dodging your skill shots

3) Stay on Mercury Hammer pretend your csing with this form, as soon as he is in range you To The Skies! auto attack Thundering Blow change to Mercury Cannon Shock Blast Acceleration Gate

4) Shock Blast first then Acceleration Gate move your character towards the enemy while you do that you should get some majority of movement speed from the Acceleration Gate activate Hyper Charge change into Mercury Hammer then jump on him with To The Skies! auto attack Thundering Blow

Escapes on Jayce

The best situation where you feel like you getting ganked in lane soon are stay on melee form and say if the jungler is coming so close to you , you Thundering Blow and hit him away then quickly change range form Mercury Cannon with this you already gain movement speed Hextech Capacitor and now position your Acceleration Gate near you with that your movement speed is incredibly fast almost impossible to catch you

You must be suprised why would you add mark speed on a Jayce? Well is simple for me , his auto attack animation is incredibly slow and for me is not worth to use Hyper Charge on range form to get the CS sometimes I prefer saving the mana to harass. With this speed on marks and 5% on masteries you feel so confortable last hitting and even AA on the enemey.

And about the Glyph mana [X9] it might be weird why not add magic resist or something else but for the people who dnt know Jayce melee form Mercury Hammer gives defence and magic resist not a lot 5 at level 1 so come to think of it why should I add on magic resist while his Mercury Hammer gives it already? So I prefer the mana reason because I'm aiming for first blood I want the early kills so I can snowball the lane.

As you notice I didn't take the Spell Weaving many Jayce player actually take it since it works well on him with the Hyper Charge but for me my opinion please don't get offended if your a Jayce player too but I prefer speed on Jayce that's why I take the Fury with X6 marks speed with this I get to CC better auto attack quicker you might find it not worth while losing Sorcery Spell Weaving but is something new something really worth to test on

This is another example, If you think the 10% attack speed on runes is enough and have no trouble of Csing on Jayce then you could go for the Sorcery and Spell Weaving this will work too I personally tested it

Team fighting

Always take advantage of your range pokes while waiting for an engage you could always aim for their AD carry try to get them low so they can't be so effective in team fights or you could target anyone you feel like that could benefit your team

Reason why I don't max my Hyper Charge because since it got nerfed I felt there's something off from it so what I do is , take advantage of the skill activate it and change to Mercury Hammer and then To The Skies! Lightning Field Thundering Blowso fast you can't even react

Item builds

Starting items :
A Long Sword with X2 Health Potion and a Mana Potion
My opinion this is the best starting item for Jayce with this it helps you to harass while staying in lane for a period of time and with the Glyph of Mana combine with the Mana Potion you feel confortable in lane you could go all in while not so afraid of the mana problem

Early items :
As you could see Tear of the Goddess X2 Long Sword Boots of Speed I prefer this as the early items I'm not in a rush to get Manamune yet so what I do is stack up the Long Sword and get a Boots of Speed with the X2 Long Sword it does pretty enough damage already and with the Boots of Speed it gives you the opportunity to chase , to escape and to dodge skill shots

Early items 2 :
As you could see I finally got Manamune and now I pick another Long Sword and a Pickaxe I personally like stacking up these items that will help me eventually build up Last Whisper and a The Brutalizer faster in mid game

Mid game items :
Manamune Last Whisper The Brutalizer Ionian Boots of Lucidity these are the core items on Jayce. Last Whisper + The Brutalizer combined it ignores the enemy armor and it gives armor penetration and along with that you get a good amount of CDR from The Brutalizer and the Ionian Boots of Lucidity with these items you could take advantage of your range pokes before a teamfight it will deal a hell lot of damage especially to the ones who didn't build armor in the enemey team

Late game offensive items :
The Bloodthirster Awesome item on Jayce that gives 20% life steal and 80 Attack damage and this item is perfect for Jayce while taking objectives or vs an armor stacking team The Bloodthirster helps especially if you see this Thornmail
Infinity Edge powerful bursty item on Jayce I only take this if I'm seriously fed and if its a squishy team is not the perfect item on Jayce I prefer something else
Mercurial Scimitar My favourite item not because you have the opportunity to save your own butt if you get stunned is actually a worthy item for 3700 gold. I prefer this than the Infinity Edge because it helps in team fight , helps vs a heavy CC team , helps if you vs an ap team since it gives magic resist and it gives good damage 80 attack damage
Maw of Malmortius About this item well I think is only good for 1vs1 especially if your taking Jayce in mid lane since it has a shield that abosrbs 400 magic damage but for me it depends on the situation I prefer the Mercurial Scimitar if you want something more safe

Late game defensive items :
Banshee's Veil this item works well with the Mercurial Scimitar similar item but even more useful since it's cheaper gives health , magic resist and the ability to block a spell damage. Take this item if you afraid of getting caught for example this bish Morgana yep we all know about her
Guardian Angel not the best item for Jayce but there's situation you need to come back alive since your the only one that could carry the team and get down the nexus so take this at the last resort If you want to end the game
Thornmail 50/50 it works okay I only take it if the their ad carry is hell lot of fed and I need some armor and since this items returns back 30% magic damage I think is pretty worth it
Randuin's Omen same as Thornmail I only take it for the ad carry purpose with this and the Thornmail is not a bad item together there must be situation where you need to get tanky since you getting deleted very hard in team fight so I suggest you Thornmail and Randuin's Omen
Mercury's Treads works well with Mercurial Scimitar and Banshee's Veil these 3 items works well together take it when you vs a heavy CC team

Summoner spells

For a top laner you either take Flash + Ignite or Flash + Teleport in my case I always prefer on the Ignite since the runes I use are aiming for firstblood for me I will need the Ignite to go all in so I could snowball the lane easy.

However , Teleport is useful especially in needed for split pushing , objectives , team fights , baron , drake and the most important thing is to counter gang on the bot lane. There's situation where you have to concentrate on the mini map and your bot lane you must understand when to use it a little advice say if bot lane is going on a 2vs3 let the enemy get closer to them just a little oftenly when they see a Teleport coming they either back or just keep going depending on the situation so since they are already that deep their only choice is to keep going so now your Teleport is used in the right time you won't be using it and then few seconds later cancel it that would just be a waste.

When taking the Teleport always let your team knows when is up when is down think carefully before you use it especially during the mid and late games. And there is always a possibility where you will VS an enemy top lane Teleport you must record everytime he uses the Teleport in your lane cus it will benefit you and your team knowing whether his summoner spells are up or not. Think carefully before you Teleport the same place as your enemy top lane do not just see him Teleport and then you follow you must read the situation if you know there is no point of going with him then okay punish him make him lose the cs/exp take down the turret find whatever possibility to slow their game down

Other summoner spells like Heal Exhaust Ghost Barrier Cleanse Clarity for me it won't work at all it will be just a waste to take one of these over the Ignite or Teleport however if your a mid laner then is the different story because Barrier you could save your *** if you getting gang in mid lane and their mid laner used their Ignite on you and for the Cleanse it works pretty good defense or offensive wise

A good flash trick turret killing

Sometimes it happens where you lose your lane no matter how hard you try to prevent it and the only way to keep the game going is to farm at turret and stay safe waiting for the right opportunity to kill the enemy under the turret. And the trick to do that is keep yourself on the Mercury Hammer form bait him closer and closer to you when is the right time you To The Skies! then Flash behind him Thundering Blow him to the turret then change to Mercury Cannon Shock Blast Acceleration Gate

Why should you play Jayce?

He's a champion that could control the team fight from my perspective If you could land a few shots anyone of them you could force them out of fights that could trade objectives drakes turrets baron or whatever.

Jayce is a champion that can go in as melee in team fight or as range whatever you feel like is good for you and since he have 2 ablities in team fight melee or range this what makes him special is like having another champion in the team fight is more like a 6vs5

And the main reason why I played Jayce is cus thanks to the guy I've seen on the All-star 2013 Cj Entus Shy vs PDD ( Jayce vs Zac ) he's timing of skills hes positioning hes laning phase on Jayce were crazy below I will show you a link a little hightlight
