Woah Wait what?
Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
Ryze, How we have been waiting for you to fit into your spot, and well, you are close. Since LoL has been around you have been very unique. This season saw another Rework on you, and has given quiet a big emphasis on your combos. It turns out, You work amazingly as a tank, without even building full tank.
Flash is pretty standard, and so is tp. they will help you stay in lane longer and get that well needed gold.
My Standard runes for all AP Class Champions. Gives a decent amount of damage while still giving some Sustain with the armor and MR.
These Masteries Maximize Damage and Early Sustain. Ryze lacks in early power but mid and late game is a monster. Thunderlords Scales well with this Build and also gives a great power boast to short engages.
Maxing your E first will give bonus damage when you land your combos. When an enemy decides to head up with you punish them with an QEQEWQ Combo until they are dead. If you are low EW Auto to proc your thunderlords then throw your q to give yourself the shield and movement speed.
Always build Arch Angel, it scales with Ryze' kit amazingly but, shouldn't be your rush. If you are getting bullied out of lane by someone High AD Frozen heart is gonna be your best bet, AP, well out scale them with Mor. Seraphs Embrace does max out its AP bonus at 100, which is still plenty for a tank. Plus just as important is the Active Shield. it will be just about halve your health bar, which will save your life.
Look to poke and get as much of a lead as possible, your damage is going to fall off around the time you finish Frozen Heart, Or Mor. Personally i would pull minions under your tower almost all match ups, land your E to kill minions then hit with a q to kill the rest. this will also allow your jungle to gank more often then not and add some frustration to the enemy team. having to dive a tank ryze is not fun.
Ryze's R is very tricky to master, being able to take a few to the face from the back line will help alot and keep their attention on you and not your own back line. That being said, Tank Ryze should not be the only tank on your team. I find a tanky Support will give your team an advantage. You will still do some damage taking a fighter to the back line with you such as wukong, pantheon, or yasuo. then your other tank adc and mid/ jungle can shred the front line coming to you.
Tank Ryze is not a substitute for a tank, but can be a supplement to an otherwise squeshy team. You can and will do a ton of damage still, but will be strong enough to take a few to the face and survive. I hope this guide helps out your game, and i'll see you in the rift.
