Mid is for the AP Carries :P

Go bot lane with a support.

Early game aim to farm

Mid game aim to farm

and Late game kill all :P

Cait is falling out of play though because her dmg output drastically falls off mid ~ late.

Buildwise I'd say
Boots 3
2 doran's blades
(vamp scepter) if necessary
Infinity edge
Phantom Dancer
Last whisper
Quicksilver sash
Infinity Edge

something like that

IE PD LW are core items :P

I was told at one point that Caitlyn should be used on bot, and that mid lane is for certain champs, but honestly after a bit of play, due to her range and probably in most cases my mid lane opponents being stupid ( more likely me getting lucky :P ) i was able to own the lane most of the time !

Sorry, but that's just a stupid thing to say. There's nothing wrong with her.

@ recnib

I notice your profile says you're level 13, which explains why you play her in mid lane. You'll find that once you get closer to reaching level 30, pretty much everyone you play with will start to stick more and more to the current 'meta': playing an AP champion ( Morgana, Cassiopeia, Anivia or Karthus just to name a few) mid, an AD ( Caitlyn, Ashe, Tristana, Graves) with a support ( Janna, Soraka, Sona, Taric) bottom lane, a jungler ( Lee Sin, Nocturne, Nautilus, Amumu) in the jungle and generally a bruiser ( Darius, Olaf, Irelia, Riven) top.
That doesn't mean Caitlyn mid doesn't work, it's just not common. Generally, it is dangerous for an AD carry to lane mid vs an AP carry, as an AP champion is generally a lot stronger early and mid game and has enough burst to kill someone like Caitlyn with 1 combo.
Having said that, if you're having success with her mid right now, just keep playing her there, it really doesn't matter much on lower levels.

As for a build, I'd pretty much follow the build RosePhoenix posted (pretty standard for an AD carry):

Boots of Speed + 3x Health Potion
2x Doran's Blade
( Vampiric Scepter if you need the lifesteal)
Infinity Edge
Phantom Dancer
Last Whisper
Quicksilver Sash / Guardian Angel
The Bloodthirster

As for 'tips', just make sure to abuse your range and use the W+Q combo that is displayed in Diesel's blog. Make sure to make good use of your passive, too.

Be wary of your positioning in teamfights as the enemy team will (or at least should) focus you and you're going to be squishy. Stay back and abuse your range, make good use of the knockback on your 90 Caliber Net and you should be fine :)

Oh yeah i know to use my range, gives me a real advantage against people like Heimerdinger and his turrets :) Yeah the 90 Caliber Net is good, I use it to knock myself backward and escape :D

As caitlyn your range and your ability to dish out damage from a long distance is what sets you apart from many other AD carries (Except Tristiana but still).

When you find something unique about a hero utilize it to the fullest.

Think before a teamfight, is there a position i would like to be in so i can tear down the enemy team while keeping me out of the attack range of the melee and even ranged enemy champions?

Your range is wonderful and you can outrange nearly all champions in the game, try shooting from over a wall in teamfights while your team gives you vision of the enemy in the actual teamfight zone, this is not cowardly and your team should be aiming to keep you out of arms way as the AD ranged carry anyway.

Your ult can be blocked but don't let this discourage you, no one likes taking caitlyn's ulti for another teamate. People sometimes don't have the reflexes to move to block that ulti especially late game with a lower channeling time on your ulti. Also keep an eye out for players who generally dislike each other, they will not be willing to take an ult for the other which can score you some easy kills.

Use your traps in the lanning phase to put up a wall of traps, this will give you much zone control and will limit enemy movement in the lane, if an enemy steps onto one of these traps it can score you some of the easiest kills in the lanning phase. You can have 3 at a time so either set them up in a line or in key positions that the enemey will use a lot.

Hope i helped. :)
