Welcome to the third article in a series of upcoming collaborative guides! These articles will be made by the current Editors, Scouts, Veterans and Moderators of MobaFire and will feature champion tips and tricks. At the end of each article will be a list of champion guides to get you started learning the chosen champion. The guides displayed should supply you with a variety of different gameplay perspectives. _________ Caitlyn's History _________

Caitlyn joined the League in Season 1. Today she is traditionally picked as AD carry. If your team is in need of a strong AD carry, Caitlyn is a great choice due to her long range and strong laning phase. Pick her especially if you don't have much experience as AD carry because she is so safe compared to many other AD carries.

One of the reasons Piltover is known as the City of Progress is because it has an extraordinarily low crime rate. This hasn't always been the case; brigands and thieves of all sorts used to find the city-state an ideal mark for plunder, primarily due to the valuable resources it imports to fuel its techmaturgical research. Some even theorize that it would have fallen long ago to the chaos of organized crime if not for Caitlyn, the Sheriff of Piltover. Born the daughter of a wealthy statesman and a pioneering hextech researcher, Caitlyn discovered her natural gift for investigation when, at age 14, her father was assaulted and robbed on his way home. She snuck out of her house that night with her father's rifle and tracked down the muggers from the crime scene. At first, her parents did their best to discourage her from such risky hobbies, but she was incorrigible. Wishing to protect her daughter in the only way she knew how, Caitlyn's mother began outfitting her with techmaturgical devices tailored to her sleuthing needs.

Caitlyn quickly gained notoriety, both because she was single handedly defeating crime in Piltover and also because she soon developed into a ravishing beauty. She never backed down from a case or a challenge, and she was one of the sharpest shots in the city-state. Her services were soon requested by Demacia to help track down a mysterious outlaw who had begun committing high-profile heists. The bandit, who always left a card with an ornate 'C' at the scene of the crime, became Caitlyn's arch-nemesis. To this day, Caitlyn still searches for this cat burglar, and the chase has led her all across Valoran. She has joined the League to hone her skills and gain the influence necessary to track down the only quarry that has managed to evade her.

_________ Caitlyn's Abilities _________

The headshot damage is quite powerful. Try to use it against the enemy champion within the lane instead of lasthitting with it unless the enemy is out of reach.
Shooting from brush gains you faster stacks.

Watch out! This spell has a 1-second delay.
You can use this ability as a strong harass during laning phase and it is also a great follow up ability if your support initiates enemies.
When harassing, try to not hit too many minions on the way because they decrease the damage of this ability.

Traps can be really powerful if used correctly. When splitpushing, try to create a trap-path for yourself to escape from danger. When in teamfights, try to predict the enemy movement and lay the trap according to that pattern.
When people have guardian angel, try to place a trap on the spot where the guardian angel is getting activated, so that you have a guaranteed hit.
If an enemy Caitlyn places a trap under your tower and she is in range of said tower, step on the trap to force the tower's aggression on Caitlyn. Only do this if it is safe to do so.
Place traps around objectives such as Baron and Dragon when your team is doing them. This will give you some Crowd Control and you have a chance to see enemies coming.

You can jump over small walls with this ability
Casting 90 Caliber Net and Piltover Peacemaker at the same time will perform the dash and cast animation for the Piltover Peacemaker at the same time. The Piltover Peacemaker projectile will launch where you started 90 Caliber Net. This is useful because it can allow you to hit a free Q using the E slow or deal damage while moving and kiting, while also making the Q harder to predict. EQ(R) can also serve as a burst combo during all-in fights or against low health targets.
As the recoil of casting this ability knocks Caitlyn backwards, you can use it to escape or chase an enemy - just make sure you cast it in the right direction!

Since the bullet of this ability can be caught by any enemy champion, avoid using this ability when there is a tanky front line between you and your target.
If Caitlyn loses sight of her target before she locks on, the skill cancels. It is not put on cooldown nor will it consume any mana.
If the target dies or becomes untargetable during the channel, Ace in the Hole will be canceled and put on a 5 second cooldown. This will not refund the mana cost.
If the target dies after the bullet has been fired, it will continue toward their corpse and can still be intercepted. The ability will go on full cooldown.
Clones (like Shaco's Hallucinate) will intercept the missile, as they are classified as champions for targeting purposes.
This ability takes quite some time to cast. In that time you can do a lot of auto attacks. Try to use this ability only when you cannot reach the enemy otherwise.
Ace in the Hole will give true sight on a champion for a small duration before it fires. Use this time to get in some last minute shots on a fleeing champion.
You can use this in the late game to harass the enemies who have no heals or shields. If the enemy is squishy you can force him to go back before taking objectives or teamfights.

Play

As Caitlyn you should focus on farming your lane and harassing the enemy from afar. One good way to harass during laning is to farm until you have your Headshot available and then use the Headshot enhanced basic attack on the enemy champion.
You have superior range to most AD carries and you have one ability which allows you to "dash" and you have one CC + vision ability. Use these advantages and you can easily save yourself while still killing the enemy.

Fights

The most important skill to work on when playing an AD carry is positioning and kiting. This means ensuring that you are never in a position where the enemy team can stun and immediately kill you. Stay as far back as possible and target the enemies that are most threatening to you. It's likely that at least one of the enemy team's tanks/offtanks/assassins will try to get to you and either kill you or force you out of the fight. Don't panic and move backwards in between shots. Remember that you have 90 Caliber Net, Barrier and Flash and be ready to use them when necessary to gain more time and distance.

Like any other AD carry you should be focusing on getting critical chance, attack damage, attack speed and armor penetration. The core items would be Last Whisper, Bloodthirster and Berserker's Greaves. Read Caitlyn - IT'S A TARP for more information on items and info!
