Got this powersupply: XFX 550W Core Edition ATX-power supply, 80+ Bronze but it's pretty old and has reached it's limits pretty much. I'm thinking of getting a slightly more powerful one (R9 380 graphics card alrdy requires suggested 500W) so I don't need to buy one in the future.

I found two on sale:

Corsair VS Series VS650 650W ATX 2.31 3 year warranty, at least 85% efficient - 59€
Aerocool GT700SG 700W ATX, 80+ Gold Modular - 89€

Anyone knows if they're any good?

650w is already overkill for a 380, you don't need more than a 550w even if you're running an overclock.

500W is with a good margin. Nothing to worry about.

Don't bother upgrading unless you want a modular power supply and even then you should probably look at 80+ Gold PSUs, for the higher efficiency.

Speaking of power supplies: I decided to upgrade from my old non-modular 80+Bronze PSU. I found EVGA Supernova G2 650W and it's amazing in terms of voltage regulation and ripple, and easily clears the 80+ gold certification with with ~90.5% efficiency. It also has a semi-passive mode where the fan doesn't spin. All this for a great price. It seemed perfect.

Now that I've got it I've noticed a horrible flaw: it has coil-whine. And not while running; you can hear it the moment you plug in the power cord, without it even being connected it to the PC. Luckily it's not super bad, it's hard to hear from a meter away, but my PC making noise while off is unacceptable to me.
Apparently this is a fairly common issue with the Supernova G2 line. Somebody else made a video. Mine is not nearly as bad, but shows the same characteristics, with the same "thunk" sound half a second after turning it off.

I'm kind of regretting my purchase :/
Seems like I'll have to get it replaced or try to return it. Which is gonna be a pain in the ***.

So you guys would rather get the 550W?

Neither. Did you not read what we wrote?

If you're gonna upgrade (you don't need to) then get a modular PSU with high efficiency.
There's little point in upgrading to a new PSU with similar efficiency to your old one.

Or did I misunderstand? Is your current PSU broken in some way?

Consider upgrading to thin air if you want a bit more power.

It's broken and that's why I'm buying new one.

I'd recommend getting the 550w and spending the extra money on something nice (like a better quality one) ;) The corsair VS series is pretty low-budget.

I haven't really studied psus, not sure which ones are good quality. I'll try to look up some info on them.
EDIT: Now that I'm wiser, looks like I'll get EVGA 550W SuperNOVA 550 G2
