She is going to be scary. And her stacking ball will be one of the best harassing abilities in game.

Lol, her ball is abilities, but she still has her own auto attack -- slow with ball, auto attack combos seem viable, maybe ADish build on her

Orianna's auto attacks are entirely independent from "The Ball," as she named it.
Morello clearly stated that they wanted a way to separate expert Orianna players from amateurs.
That's where the passive came in.
You can fight entirely at the 800~1000 range with the Ball, and avoid damage, but to be at maximum effectiveness, you have to go into auto-attacking range and make use of your passive to contribute that bonus stacking damage.
