Introduction

Dear Mobafriends,

Here is my Blitzcrank Guide.
This guide was created to help new player get familiar with how to play Blitzcrank!
Be gentle, i'm no pro at either playing or making guides.. Just trying to help. ^^

A well played Blitzcrank can be a real asset to any team and help getting your carries get feeded.

I play Blitzcrank as a Support / Off-tank.
Support means he will not doing loads of damage but you will be helping your team getting kills by disabling or saving team-mates by Rocket Grabing the enemies to himself.
Being a Off-tank means you will be able to soak up a neat amount of damage but as soon as more then 2 enemies will be focussing you, you will be going down.

Lore

The city of Zaun is a place where both magic and science have gone awry. The unchecked nature of experimentation has taken its toll on the city. However, Zaun's lenient restrictions allow their researchers and inventors the leeway to push the bounds of science at an accelerated rate, for better or worse. It was under these conditions that a team of doctoral students from Zaun's College of Techmaturgy made a breakthrough in the field of intelligent steam automation. Their creation, the steam golem Blitzcrank, was developed to exercise judgment on-the-fly in order to assist with Zaun's hazardous waste reclamation process, since so often the conditions did not allow for human supervision. However, he soon began exhibiting unforeseen behaviors.

Over time, the scientists were able to identify a demonstrated learning process, and Blitzcrank fast became a celebrity. As is sadly often the case though, credit for the golem's creation was scooped up by another - Professor Stanwick Pididly - though most now know the truth. In the wake of the ensuing legal maelstrom, it became evident that neither party truly had the steam golem's best interests at heart, and Blitzcrank humbly petitioned for personal autonomy. Backed by overwhelming support from the public, it took the liberal Council of Zaun only a few weeks to declare Blitzcrank a fully-independent, sentient entity. A unique being, the golem left Zaun, distressed by the controversy and feeling there was no place he could fit in. His travels led him to the one location in Valoran where unique beings have a place - the League of Legends. Fortunately, he was easily able to adapt his design to suit the rigors he would face on the Fields of Justice.

Though Blitzcrank may batter anything that stands in his way, he really has a heart of gold...encased in a framework of iron...in a carapace of steel.

Summoner Spells

For the Summoner Spells i usually go for:

Clarity , Blitz is mana-dependant and can't really do anything without it. By taking Clarity and Greater Seal of Replenishment you ensure you won't be running out of mana.

Ghost , Blitz is pretty darn fast thanks to his Overdrive but sometimes you will be wanting that extra kick! That's the moment you pop Ghost. This spell really helps while running, chasing or placing a Rocket Grab wich makes it a great choice.

Other great options are:

Teleport , Makes sure you can get around super fast! Great if your team is placing a decent amount of Sight Wards. Can really help defending the lanes and is a godsend when you die during the early laning phase.

Exhaust , Shuts down enemy dps-ers and makes them really easy to cath up or get away from. A real good choice but i just prefer Clarity and Ghost more.

Flash , A amazing spell to say the least, great for placing your Rocket Grab or making quick escapes by porting over walls. A great spell to consider on almost every char.

Abilites

Mana Barrier ( Passive )

When Blitzcrank life is brought below 20% health he activates Mana Barrier. This creates a mana shield equal to 50% of his mana for 10 seconds. Mana Barrier can only occur once per minute.

A decent passive that makes him a bit harder to kill. This also makes stacking mana more viable on Blitz.

Rocket Grab

Blitzcrank fires his right hand to grab an opponent on it's path, dealing damage and dragging it back to him.

Blitzcrank fires his right hand, if it encounters an enemy unit it will stun them and deal 60/120/180/240/300 (+0.8) magic damage while he pulls them to himself.

Cost 140/140/140/140/140 Mana
Range 10000

Probably Blitz's most iconic skill the Rocket Grab! This thing can even grab people trough a wall. I will explain more about when to use this skill in the gameplay section.

Overdrive

Blitzcrank super charges himself to get dramatically increased movement and attack speed.

Blitzcrank supercharges himself to increase Movement Speed by 16/20/24/28/32% and attack speed by 30/38/46/54/62% for 8 seconds.

Cost 75/75/75/75/75 Mana
Range 1

Your escape mechanism. Use this to flee or catch up to running enemies.

Power Fist

Blitzcrank charges up his fist to make his next attack deal double damage and pop his target up in the air.

Blitzcrank charges up his fist to make his next attack deal double his total attack damage as physical damage and pop his target up in the air.

Cost 25/25/25/25/25 Mana
Range 300

This skill combo's great with your Rocket Grab, pull them to you then punch them up into the air for a good amount of damage and a great disable!

Static Field ( Ultimate )

Passively causes lightning bolts to damage a nearby enemy. Additionally, Blitzcrank can activate this ability to damage nearby enemies and silences for 0.5 seconds, but doing so removes the passive lightning until Static Field becomes available again.

Passive: Lightning arcs off of Blitzcrank to hit a random nearby enemy for 100/200/300 (+0.25) magic damage every 2.5 seconds.

Active: Deals 250/375/500 (+) magic damage and silences surrounding enemy units for 0.5 seconds. The passive is not in effect during the cooldown.

Cost 150/150/150 Mana
Range 600

A great ultimate! The passive is cool but the active ability is where it's at! Activate it in a teamfight to render all their casters useless for a short time while doing decent damage to!

Masteries

With Blitzcrank i mostly go 0 / 21 / 9.

In Utility i take improved Ghost and extra health and mana regen. After that i take the extra experience and finnaly i get improved Clarity

In Defense i get extra Armor and Magic Resist followed up by some Hp regen and Dodge. After that i get Harden Skin and the extra Hp from Veteran's Scars. And last but not least we take Tenacity for the great damage reduction.

Runes

Greater Mark of Magic Resist, Imho getting Magic Resist in runes is pretty important because your first item is gonna have enough Armor. That why we take this to get some flat Magic Resist early game.

Greater Seal of Replenishment, Getting extra Mana Regen makes playing Blitzcrank so much more easy. This ensures you don't have to hit every rocket grab ( still advised but we all miss sometimes ).

Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist, Even more Magic Resist? Yes sir! Also because Magic Resist is primary in Blue. This makes it a way better choice then armor. Another viable choice would be Mana ( per level ) Glyphs.

Greater Quintessence of Health, Just a overall great Quintessence. Makes your early game a lot easier.

Items

When you spawn in base you'll want to buy a Saphire Crystal and 2 Health Potions.
The next trip you go back buy Boots and if you have enough money a Chain Vest.
Try to make your items into a Glacial Shroud as soon as possible.
After that upgrade your boots into Ionian Boots of Lucidity.

With this you have pretty much your core.

The next item you will want to make is Banshee's Veil and upgrade your Glacial Shroud into a Frozen Heart.

With that you're pretty much set! Good items to make after these would be:

Trinity Force, Gives some great stats and a good amount of extra damage to your Rocket Grab + Power Fist Combo.

Guardian Angel, A good tanking item. Gives extra resistances and a extra life.. win!

Aegis of the Legion, Helps your team out a lot and let's be honest, thats what you should be as a support.

Boots!

The thing with boots is that they're almost all viable on a lot of champions.

Ninja Tabi, Does the enemy team have at least 3 Auto Attackers? ( Master Yi, Tryndamere, Tristana, etc. ) These are a great choice.

Mobility Boots, Are great to get where you want to but you lose your speed when you get hit. You probably will get hit and there are to many situations you will be wanting to move fast after taking a hit.. So i don't really recommend getting it on Blitz.

Mercury's Treads, Simple, is their team full of champions with CC? Be my guest and take these. Great boots because they are unique in what they do.

Boots of Swiftness, A great choice overall, i used to main these on Blitz but with the release of Ionian Boots of Lucidity these are outshined.

Who/When to Grab?

I will be adding pictures in this section soon. This section may be hard to understand because of my bad English!

Your first and foremost targets are squishy's. Champions like Ryze and Annie are great examples, you will want to keep these champions from "getting fed".

Champions that have good escape mechanisms like Ezreal, LeBlanc and Jax should not be targeted! After your initial combo they'll just jump / teleport away.

Also look at forehand if the opponents have Flash so you are prepared who can get away easy.

Be carefull if the other opponent in your lane has a way to get close to you easy, if you pull Ryze away and just have their Xin Zhao jump in its still a 2 vs. 2.

You will be wanting to grab enemies when you can either:

Pull them to your tower, but remember your tower won't target him if there are minions to close to the tower and they won't hurt you.

Or! When you and your ally are close together and the enemies are far away from each other.
After doing this you have him in for a 2 vs. 1 for a decent amount of time. Make sure you kill him before his friend gets there or have him so low on Hp that he has to recall back to base.

Rocket Grab Placement

Now imagine ryze waiting for his creeps to arive and im standing here with 1 or 2 allies. First Blood? Yes please!

Poor Ryze has no idea that i can grab him from these bushes!

These are just a few of the awesome things you can do with Rocket Grab

Reminder, the range of your Rocket Grab is longer then it shows when you go to aim it.

I will be adding pictures in this section soon. This section may be hard to understand because of my bad English!

Gameplay

I will be adding pictures in this section soon. This section may be hard to understand because of my bad English!

The thing you need to remember is your combo!
First you Rocket Grab your enemy then you activate Power Fist and knock them up in the air. Make sure you have allies close to you when you do this combo, because alone you won't be able to kill them.

Early Game

Early game you will want to try and kill your enemies with your combo ( explained in the section above ) while still getting enough last hits on creeps.
Play passive, only rocket grab when it will help you! Do not go shooting out your arm every time you see a enemy..

Remember you are not tanky yet, this will come later with your items! If you charge into the enemies you will be foccused down without any problems.

Mid Game

Once you get into Mid game help around the map with your Rocket Grab saving your allies or dooming enemies by grabbing them to towers. Keep in mind not to move around to much or you'll lose out on exp and gold from you lane.

Late Game

In the Late game the teamfights will start and thats where you shine.
The moment on of the enemies overextend you unleash your godly combo and your team will burst the poor bastard down.
He guess what? The teamfight suddenly became a 5 vs. 4! This is how you'll be winning the game for your team.

Once the teamfights break out, make sure to keep Power Fisting the their carries to shut those down so your team can take them out.
Also don't forget to activate Static Field to get off the global silence on all those enemies.

When they escape to their towers be ready to Rocket Grab any poor fool that ventures to close to the tower. :3
