Hi, my names Orcyish and this is my third MOBAfire guide. I noticed that there was alot of Jax guides, but none were "The Best" So i decided to publish my thoughts on jax. Thanks for reading

This is the ideal rune setup for Jax. But this section will go over all options.

*Marks

Greater Mark of Magic Penetration
The best mark for any AP caster. I take 6 of these because endgame you will have alot more AP then you have AD.

Greater Mark of desolation
Considering as this is a hybrid build, i like to take 3 of these. They will help your damage quite a bit.

Greater Mark of Attack Damage
The best early game marks for jax in my opinion. Very strong, i always take these as a jungler, and if you want to take them for any path. They are very viable.

Greater Mark of Attack Speed
I like to take a few of these as a jungler for the speed on getting that yummy lifesteal more frequently.

*Seals

Greater Seal of Armor
The best defensive seal in my opinion. I will almost always take these.

Greater Seal of defense
I will only take these on rare occasion, i prefer the flat armor because of its early game bonus. If you were to take these against someone like Lee Sin or Riven with high early game damage you would be at a major disadvantage.

Greater seal of vitality
These are the second best option for defensive seals. I will take these if im laning against an AP solotop, like Kennen or Rumble

Greater Seal of Scaling Mana Regeneration
This is the last seal i feel is viable, If on the rare occasion i take these, i will only take 3-6, not a full page. (Because mana can be a problom)

*Glyphs

Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist
These are my favorite glyphs on Jax (or any tanky character). They give great defence endgame against any magic based character.

Greater Glyph of Magic Resist
I would only take these over shielding if you were laning against an AP champion.

Greater Glyph of Ability Power
If you prefer damage> survivability i would take these glyphs.

Greater Glyph of Scaling Ability Power
Take this glyph if you want more damage endgame and less survivability.

*Quintessences

Greater Quintessence of Health
These are my favorite quintessence to get on Jax, you will get a huge survivabliity boost early game. In my opinion these are the best tank runes in the game.

Greater Quintessence of Magic Resist
I would only ever take these if my opposition was AP with alot of burst.

Greater Quintessence of Armor
I would only ever take these if i didn't have armor seals, and only then if i was against a super bursty AD character like Talon

Greater Quintessence of Ability Power
These Quintessences will give you a nice damage boost, especially early game

Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage
These quints, like Potency quintessences will give you some early game damage.

Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed
What could possibly be wrong with bonus movement speed for catching prey? Pretty self explanatory.

~Summoner Spells~


Flash
Flash is my favorite summoner spell on Jax. Use it to chase, escape, steal an objective. Very handy.


Exhaust
Exhaust is usually what ill choose when laning. You have no built in slow, so until you get Trinity Force or Rylai's Crystal Scepter you will probobly need this for most kills


cleanse
A very nice defensive spell. When going defensive you can choose this or heal.


Teleport
Ok spell, helps you make fast trips to base, and get back into lane fast. Also can come in handy to gank sometimes

Ghost
Nice spell, i prefer Flash but if you get move speed i would choose this.


Ignite
Nice spell, better then Exhaust when you have your Trinity Force or Rylai's Crystal Scepter i get this when i play burst Jax.


Smite
A must get for jungling, unless you wanted to die to blue buff.


Heal
nice spell, you can use it to escape alot of situations, and maybe to juke a dim witted opponent.

This is the best order to level your skills. (The only change is get Counter Strike at level 1 if jungling)

~Skill Kit~



relentless assault

A very nice passive to have, it will give you the upperhand advantage in early 1v1 fights, and gives Jax the ability to be a good jungler

Tips and tricks:
  • Nice, because it procs Grandmaster's Might, and it will give you an early upperhand. If your losing in a 1v1 fight and there's nowhere to jump to, remember you have this and decide if you have the lifesteal to have a chance

Leap strike

This combined with Empower makes Jax the burst character he is. Use this to go in or you can escape with it.

Tips and tricks:
  • You can leap to allys if they are in range.(this includes wards, so having a safety ward somewhere isn't a bad idea)

  • Scales with bolth AD and AP, one of the reasons Jax is such a good hybrid.

Empower

Makes you next attack deal massive bonus damage, very good.

Tips and tricks:
  • Procs on a Leap Strike

  • Only scales with AP, one of the reasons you end with more AP> AD

Counter strike

Great ability. Very potent against any AD character that will rely on auto attacks to kill you.
Tips and tricks:
  • Use this before you Leap Strike so that they will be stunned when you land.

  • use this while running, you may stun them, or you may just dodge their attacks.

Grandmaster's might

Huge survivability boost. Gives you more defence for the more attack powers you have. Use this whenever you go into any fight.

Tips and tricks:
  • The damage bonus will proc spellvamp.

  • Make sure you have your bonus attack ready if possible when going into a fight.

This is my current staple build, but in this section i will go over all the options, and why they ARE options.

Basic



This is my preferred build in most games. It gives you a good defense against most any solotop character you will be fighting.

Against AP heavy



I will build this if the enemy team is AP heavy.

Tanky



In this build i replace Rabadon's Deathcap with a second defense item.

Glass Cannon



Use this build if you prefer damage> survivability

*Starting items


Doran's Shield
Great item to have. The health regen gives you sustain, the flat HP it provides is huge. (you can start with an easy 250 bonus health with this and runes/masterys) And the armor is great to have


Doran's Ring
Nice damage boost, the AP it provides helps alot early game, and the mana regen gives you sustain. The health, of course is also nice.

Boots of speed
If your not a fan of Doran's items you can take this and 3 health pots, and rush your faster boots.


Vampiric Scepter
Nice item, i prefer another to it for laning, but i do prefer this to Cloth Armor and 5 pots for jungling. Although you can go with either.

*Core items


Hextech Gunblade
I love this item. The slow/ damage it provides is an amazing boost to your rotation, it gives you spellvamp and lifesteal also, which provide you with survivability, and the damage/ AP boost is great. My favorite hybrid item.


Trinity Force
I love this item on Jax The bonus from the Sheen proc is the best part, but it increases all of your stats, while giving you a built in slow.

Rylai's crystal scepter
I love this item. It gives you a huge health boost, a nice AP boost, and a slow with every ability. (this includes the Grandmaster's Might proc)


Ninja Tabi
Nice boost to survivability, and of course you have to have boots. I almost always take these or Mercury's Treads

*Other items


Rabadon's Deathcap
Pretty self explanatory. Huge damage boost.


Guardian angel
I love this item on Jax. HUGE survivability boost. Gives you armor and MR, and if you die, you have a chance to get back up and survive.


Maw of Malmortius
Against a magic damage based team i like to get this. not only does it give you a spell block if you get low, but when you get low, it increases your damage drastically.


Banshee's Veil
I will take this item> another defense item if they have someone like Amumu or Karthusso you can block their ult.

Wriggle's Lantern
I always get this item when jungling, because its a great item for it. If you do get this remember to use the ward it offers.


Sorcerer's Shoes
If you want damage> survivability take these boots.


Will of the ancients
Nice AP and Spellvamp boost, with this and Hextech Gunblade you will have alot of healing as you fight.


Guinsoo's Rageblade
Works extremely well with Relentless Assault feel free to take this or Will of the Ancients when building glass cannon.

~Special note~ Gold per 5 items such as kage's lucky pick Heart of Goldand Philosopher's Stone can be extremely useful to get if your behind. If you are getting these get them as early as possible *I recently discovered that these will win you the game if your against another jax jungler. I recently picked up all 3, and went 6/0/8 in 20m surrender. This allows you to shut down your enemys jungle, and have a huge money advantage on everyone.

~Laning phase~

In lane phase, some champions you might have trouble with are Warwick Talon Garen because Warwick and Garen can easily outsustain you, and Talon can outburst you. These are just some of the champions that may prove difficult.
However, there are many champions you can counter, such as Kog'Maw Ezrealand Ashe these are just a few, but because of your dodge what i'm going for here is AD carrys in general.
But if you do get outplayed, make sure to last hit minions as much as possible. (15 CS= 1 kill) So even if your outbursted or outplayed, you wont be out of the game

~ Jungling~

~Team Fights~

Your role in team fights is damage. DO NOT initiate unless you are THE most tanky character On your WHOLE team. And if you must, use your ult before doing so.
Whenever you go in, focus the character on their team who has the most sustained damage, like the AD carry. Leap Strike in with Counter Strike and Empower on. Use Grandmaster's Might THE SECOND you take ANY damage. (if not before going in)

~Dominion~

With my dominion build, i focused heavily on speed. I did this because I like to backdoor with Jax as often as possible. You can usually sneak through the middle and at least neutralize the first enemy point. If you do this, you will at least draw someone from top. As soon as they get close run to top and try to help. Or, if their doing fine, you can probably help whoevers holding bottom get a kill.(Use ghost to get there faster)

But keep in mind how fast you are throughout the game, backdoor and roam as much as possible, and remember, CS is still really, really game changing even in dominion.
