I apologize for the lack of synergies and threats, but I have found that Ryze doesn't have any particularly bad match-ups, and also does not have any synergies that I have actually found yet. So, now for the intro! Hi! I'm Loggit. I do not play much ranked, but am planning to very soon. I do not have a particular main, and enjoy Ryze a lot. I remember being a low level pleb and thinking Ryze was garbo. In low levels, I must say that he is. Ryze is the kind of champ that gets better with level and elo. I can proficiently play many champs, such as Mordekaiser, Aatrox, Lissandra, Thresh, Jhin, and many more. I mean many. I main solo lane, and can play all positions. I often ask my party what to play, because I often do not know what I want to play. It usually works well.

So, who is Ryze? Is he good? Should I be playing him? So, lets take this one at a time. Ryze is a dps mage, and the only one that is not tick-damage based. Instead of tick damage, Ryze uses low cooldown abilities that deal lots of damage. Ryze is one of the few "priming" champions, meaning that his damage comes from using one ability to lead into the rest of his damage. Another champion that works this way is Brand. Both of them start a combo with their E, actually. After this, they unleash hell and spam everything in their kit. Now, is Ryze good? Simply, YES! He is very busted as you get better at the game. However, if you have difficulties with being BAD then...just don't. Don't even think about it. Ryze is very bad in the low levels and in the hands of the unskilled. Now, should you play Ryze? I will never tell you who you should be playing, but I do recommend that you TRY Ryze, at least once. I find him very fun, and it is very satisfying to annihilate every minion in existence.

Honestly, you could make most runes work on Ryze. Everything in the Sorcery tree, Grasp of the Undying, Aftershock, Conqueror, Electrocute, Dark Harvest. Inspiration would not work particularly well for Ryze, but someone would likely be able to make it work. Item-wise, literally anything with mana can work. And I mean anything. Even a T-Force could work. Ryze is very versatile champion in this manner.

I have found that because Ryze is so versatile, difficult to play against, and rare, very few people actually understand how to play against him. Because of this, he is a relatively safe champion to learn, despite his skill cap being somewhat higher than average. The only champions that might be able to on average do well against him would be champions like Diana or Talon. Even tanks would have a rough time, since Ryze can build tanky to counter the tank.

I find that when it comes to Ryze, just have a team that can take damage for you. Since Ryze has to be pretty close up compared to most mages, its very nice to have a Hypertank or Facetank like Nasus or Ornn on the team. For supports, not sure to be honest.
