Introduction

Hi! This is my 2nd guide about Master Yi
After a long testing time i decided to create another guide for Master Yi
Maybe (just maybe) this is the final build for Master Yi
Thanks to his Wuju Style for giving him a better chance for first blood

This build will focus on Critical DPS that will give you massive attack speed and damage if your items are done. Note that this build are using full offensive items so if your items are done you are still squishy but you can defend yourself using lifesteals

Basically, Master Yi is easy to use. But in this build requires some skills to survive the battle. This build is more or less like if bad it's really bad but if it is good it totally awesome :D

Hope you'll like it! :D

Master Yi's Pros / Cons

Here are my opinion about Master Yi's Pros&Cons
Pros :
+ Has Alpha Strike for closing range
+ Has Meditate for healing
+ Has Wuju Style for getting first blood easier
+ High attack damage
+ High movement speed
+ Nice Ult, Highlander gives you movement speed and attack speed. If you kill an enemy champion with it, your all of your skills refreshes! Great for chasing and last-hitting (sometimes can be used for KSing. LOL)

Cons :
- Damn hell squishy
- He's a carry
- Can be taken down easily by nukers
- Melee, that means easy to harassed by ranged champions

Runes

For runes, i don't know which one is the best but i like full critical runes. Be creative, make your own rune set but don't be fool and using AP runes for him (Master Yi plays AP = FAIL!!!)
by the way, if you still can't decide which one is the best i'll show you the best option :
- 9x Greater Mark of Desolation
- 9x Greater Seal of Critical Chance
- 9x Greater Glyph of Critical Chance
- 9x Greater Quintessence of Desolation

Remember to be creative, you can also use full Crc runes but you will only gain benefit in mid-late game
Back to Top

Masteries

For masteries, i recommend you to use 21-9-0 as seen above
But you can also use 21-6-3 or 21-3-6 for more balance
Just adjust it with your summoner spells

Master Yi's Abilites

Alpha Strike - Master Yi leaps across the battlefield with blinding speed, dealing magic damage to multiple units in his path with a chance to deal bonus magic damage to minions.
Master Yi leaps across the battlefield striking up to 4 enemies, dealing 100/150/200/250/300 (+1) magic damage to each enemy with a 20/30/40/50/60% chance to deal 400 bonus magic damage to minions.

Cost
80/90/100/110/120 Mana
Range
600

Chance to deal 400 bonus damage to minions? No doubt anymore that this skill is great for farming or as a range closer by it's range (600)

Meditate - Master Yi rejuvinates his body by focus of mind, restoring health and increasing his armor and magic resistance for a short time.
Master Yi channels, restoring 140/280/420/560/700 (+1.65) health over 5 seconds. While channeling, Master Yi gains 100/150/200/250/300 armor and magic resistance.

Cost
70/85/100/115/130 Mana
Range
20

See? It's a great healing skill restoring 700 health is good enough for Master Yi

Wuju Style - Master Yi becomes skilled in the art of Wuju, passively increasing the power of his physical attacks. Activating Wuju Style doubles the passive bonus damage for a short time, but the passive bonus is temporarily removed after the effect wears off.
Passive: Increases physical damage by 15/20/25/30/35.

Active: Master Yi can activate this ability to double its effectiveness for 10 seconds, but this removes the passive bonus until Wuju Style becomes available again.

Cost
40/40/40/40/40 Mana
Range
20

This is the skill that makes first blood easier, passive damage and if activated the passive become doubled! :D

Highlander - Master Yi moves with unparalleled agility, temporarily increasing Master Yi's movement and attack speeds as well as making him immune to all slowing effects. Additionally, killing a Champion refreshes all of Master Yi's cooldowns.
Increases Master Yi's movement speed by 40% and Attack Speed by 40/60/80%, and he becomes immune to all slowing effects for 6/9/12 seconds. Additionally, killing a champion refreshes all of Master Yi's cooldowns. (Assists reduce half of the base cooldown amount.)

Cost
120/120/120 Mana
Range
1

With this skill activated, Master Yi is immune to all slowing effects with extra movement speed and attack speed. Great isn't it?

Double Strike - Master Yi strikes twice every 7th attack.
Not a really great passive but quite good if it hits critically

Master Yi's Skill Sequence

This skill sequence just like as you seen up there. Focus on leveling up Wuju Style on early game to give you some bonus damage. But on mid and late, just level up Alpha Strike and Meditate as you like it. So my recommended skill sequence are :
1. Wuju Style
2. Alpha Strike
3. Meditate
4. Wuju Style
5. Wuju Style
6. Highlander
7. Wuju Style
8. Alpha Strike
9. Wuju Style
10. Alpha Strike
11. Highlander
12. Alpha Strike
13. Alpha Strike
14. Meditate
15. Meditate
16. Highlander
17. Meditate
18. Meditate

Summoner Spells

For summoner spells, i like to use
and

Anyway, there is some good choices to pick like :
- Ignite : finishing your enemy and reduce their healing
- Clairvoyance : for chasing enemy that run off to the jungle
- Ghost : better chance to running away because ignoring unit collision
- Flash : for running away, but use it wisely for example getting trough a wall for running and don't use it for closing range. You already have your Alpha Strike
- Cleanse : removing some debuffs, it's great

And you can pick this but not really useful:
- Fortify
- Heal : since you have you Meditate, but you can use it for extra healing
- Rally : extra damage, but usually only for supporting
- Smite : if you want jungling, but i believe Master Yi have no trouble in creeping

And don't pick this, really useless :
- Clarity : you are not mana hungry
- Revive : i wanna laugh out loud when looking at someone using this

Item Explaination

My build is specialised for offensing, so most of my items are offensive. But you also can add some situational items thou. Be creative! Don't always follow this item build :D

My usual build if done will looks like this :

If you want to add some conditional defensive items like Guardian Angel, Quicksilver Sash, and Thornmail just change it with Banshee's Veil. Special for Black Cleaver, you can change it with Last Whisper if you fight a team that most of the champions are stacking armor. If most of them have thin armor, Black Cleaver is still the best.

But for who just tried Master Yi i recommend you to use the recommended items first because this item build is a little bit hard to use.

Gameplay

Early Game :
Getting the first blood
Getting the first blood can't be as simple as you think but if you already get used to it so it will be easier

Your starting item will be :
- Doran's Blade

Your starting skill will be :
- Wuju Style

How to do it :
- Always use Exhaust as your summoner spell
- Team up with someone that also use Exhaust
- This always easier when done with your friend. Set up who will use Exhaust first
- Beware if you are being countered, so it will be easier when you do this by attacking your opponent mid laner
- once Exhaust is applied, activate your Wuju Style and hit it until dead
- If the first Exhaust period is done, activate the 2nd Exhaust
- Or you can use Ignite if they are running away to finish them

After trying to get the first blood :
Your next item to buy will be :
- Zeal
- Berserker's Greaves
- part of Infinity Edge. Chose between B. F. Sword or Pickaxe

What to do :
- Creeping and sometimes harass you opponent
- Don't be too aggressive
- Get your Infinity Edge done quickly. Start with B. F. Sword if you feel your early game is good of Pickaxe if you feel your early game quite bad
- Once you hit level 6, let them push. Until they are quite far from their turret, activate your Wuju Style and hit them until their HP hits 50-40% and activate your Highlander. When they are trying to escape, use your exhaust to slow them. Keep doing this until your Infinity Edge is done

Mid Game :
Your next item to buy will be :
- Infinity Edge
- Another Zeal or Phantom Dancer

What to do :
- Once you have your Infinity Edge, gank those lanes 1 by 1 and kill the champions there
- Keep doing this until late game, and remember that you are squishy champion. Don't dive turrets!

Late Game :
This should be a green light for you to do anything for killing (but don't try something that obviously fail for example diving the enemy fountain and by1 with turrets)
Your next item to buy will be :
- another Phantom Dancer
- Black Cleaver of Last Whisper
- Bloodthirster

What to do :
- Kill as many as you want
- Help your team in team fights by killing disabler and support champion then the squishy one
- build Black Cleaver if most of your opponent armor are thin or Last Whisper if their armor are so thick
- Build Bloodthirster to boost your damage. Remeber to kill units to gain stacks. Sell your Doran's Blade and Berserker's Greaves if your inventory is too full.

*note : build defensive item whenever you need it

Good Partners

You should lane up together with these champions for better early game
- Support : Sona or Soraka is the best option
- Ranged Stunner : Taric or Sion because their stun is ranged and other champion that can do the same
- Slower : Ashe and Nunu & Willump is the best :D

And if you can, don't lane up with these champions
- Assassins : like Xin Zhao or Pantheon because they always get the kill
- Pusher : like Tristana or Mordekaiser because they always get the minion kill

And if you want to take mid, i think it's not a good option because usually your opponent will send a ranged champion to mid
Back to Top

Summary

- Master Yi is a carry champion
- Alpha Strike is good for farming and as range closer
- Don't play AP! Master Yi play AP = FAIL!!
- Beware of your enemy's item. If they got Thornmail kill them when they almost die. Don't go 1 on 1
- Some conditional items can be build like Thornmail, Banshee's Veil, Quicksilver Sash, Guardian Angel
- Using your Highlander to run away is quite good too
