INTRODUCTION

Welcome to my Rengar guide!! In this guide you will learn how to hunt your pray and be fear to enemy team.

Rengar is melee fighter, assassin and jungler who excels at jungling and on Solo Top. He uses his unique mechanic called Ferocity witch stacks to 5 and than gives him boost on one of his abilities. He also has his unique item Bonetooth Necklace. With this item Rengar collects kills and assists. After reaching certain stacks it gives him bonus like movement speed and leap range.

In this guide i will show you how to build Rengar both for Solo Top and Jungling. What masteries and runes should you use and why. Why are this items good on him and other items you can buy. What to do in Early, Mid And Late game and more.

I will try to update and upgrade this guide and to keep it as informative as possible. I would like to thank everyone who will like and support this guide because i worked really hard to make this the best guide i can. Please let me know what you liked about the guide and what not so i will try to make it better. Please try out my guide before you downvote it.

LORE

On every wall of his den, the trophy hunter Rengar mounts the heads, horns, claws, and fangs of the most lethal creatures in Valoran. Though his collection is extensive, he remains unsatisfied, tirelessly seeking greater game. He takes time with every kill, studying his prey, learning, and preparing himself for the next encounter with the one monster he never managed to defeat.

Rengar never knew his real parents, but was raised by a human who was revered as a legendary hunter. He was an ideal pupil, intently absorbing the lessons of his father, and improving them with his uncanny feral instincts. Before his mane had fully grown, Rengar set off on his own and claimed a wide territory for himself. Along its perimeter, he mounted the skulls of his slain prey - a warning to would-be aggressors. He thought undisputed reign of a region would fulfill him, but instead, he grew restless. No beasts in his domain proved challenging prey, and without formidable adversaries to push his limits, Rengar's spirit waned. He feared that no worthwhile game remained, that he would never again feel the thrill of the hunt. Just when things seemed their bleakest, he encountered the monster. It was a disturbing, alien thing, distinctly out of place in his world. It bore huge scything claws and devoured any animal that strayed across its path. Overzealous at the prospect of a challenge, Rengar ambushed the monster in haste. It far outclassed anything he'd hunted before. Their fight was savage, and each suffered crippling wounds. Rengar lost an eye, but the most grievous blow was to his pride. He had never before failed to make the kill. Worse yet, the severity of his injuries forced him to retreat. Over the following days, he hovered on the threshold between life and death. He was wracked with pain, but beneath it, he felt a glimmer of joy. The hunt was on. If such powerful beings existed in the world, he would find them, and stack their heads high. The monster, however, was a kill he wanted to savor. On his den's largest wall, he reserves a space for the beast's head, a trophy he swears will one day be the centerpiece of his collection.

''Prey on the weak and you will survive, prey on the strong and you will live.''

MASTERIES

For masteries i take standard assassin/fighter build 21/9/0 focusing on attack damage in offence and armor and magic resist in defence

OFFENCE:

Summoner's Wrath will boost your Ignite and Ghost.
Brute Force will increase your attack damage by 3 for more killing power.
Alacrity will give you attack speed witch you need to easily kill squishy targets.
Sorcery will give you cooldown reduction which you usually need for burst damage.
Weapon Expertise will give you armor penetration which you need for more tanky team.
Deadlines will give you attack damage per level.
Sunder will give you armor penetration for tanks.
Executioner will give you little boost against low health targets.

DEFENCE:

Resistance will give you magic resist which you need against AP champions
Hardiness will give you armor for AD enemy players.
Durability will give you health per level so you are more tanky.
Veteran's Scars will give you 30 bonus health which you will need.

For Jungling i take similar masteries except some exceptions

I put no points in Sorcery. So i have 4 points. I put one in Butcher for easier jungling and monster killing. I put 2 points in Havoc for some extra damage. And 1 point in Vampirism .

In Defence i put 1 point in Summoner's Resolve for boosted Smite. And one point in Tough Skin so i can stay in the jungle longer.

MARKS

Greater Mark of Attack Damage is my primary choice. It will give you nice boost in damage wich you need to kill high value targets.

Greater Mark of Desolation is also an good choice if you want more armor penetration.

SEALS

Greater Seal of Armor gives you armor for more sustain. I think this is the best choice for Seal.

GLYPH

Greater Glyph of Magic Resist gives you magic resist and its my primary choice. Its great healp for taking down AP targets.

Greater Glyph of Cooldown Reduction is also good choice if you want CDR.

QUINTESSENCE

Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage gives you even more attack damage witch is always good. And its my primary choice.

Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed will give you speed wich is good for ganking and speed in clearing out the jungle.

SUMMONER SPELLS

BEST TO USE

is great spell. It gives you little bit of damage for first blood or to secure the kills. Whth the bonus of Summoner's Wrath you also get damage bonus of 5 on your basic attacks.

is really self explanatory. Flash in or out of combat or tight situations. Jump over the wall and escape or surprise enemy.

this is also an great spell for Rengar. Slow down enemy's attack speed and movement speed.

must have this spell when jungling. It makes your jungling much easier and faster.

this spell will help you to catch fleeing enemy or to run away from them. Is also great for jungling if enemy has oracles.

MAYBE

boosts your attack speed for short time but i don't find it very useful.

this spell is good for quick change of lane so you can help that lane or just farm on it.

First i like to max out Battle Roar because you can stay on lane for ever and ever and it gives you nice damage. Second i like to max Savagery for some burst damage. Last i max Bola Strike because i have enough poke and slow with lvl 1. As every Ulty i take Thrill of the Hunt at levels 6, 11 and 16

JUNGLE SKILLS

Here i max out Savagery for burst damage and to clear camps faster. Than i max out whatever i want more slow from Bola Strike or sustain from Battle Roar. And of course i take Thrill of the Hunt at levels 6, 11 and 16.

ITEMS

CORE

Bonetooth Necklace

are great boots. They give you magic resist and tenacity (which reduces cc effects)

Bonetooth Necklace awesome unique item that makes killing champions much more rewarding.

great item for every fighter. Gives you a nice mix of health and damage. Its passive is great because it slows down targets and makes them easier to hunt down.

is also an great item for Rengar. it gives you damage and life steal which will help you stay alive longer.

NOTE: if you are heaving hard time getting trophies on Bonetooth Necklace think about selling it and buying one of situational items.

SITUATIONAL ITEMS

NOTE: with following items you should fill the two spaces you have for your items.

HEAVY AD TEAM:

DEFFENSE

this item is great for really HEAVY AD team. Because it gives you alot of armor and little bit of damage is returned to the source. But REALLY only use it if enemy team has like 3+ AD carrys.

this is one of my favourite items for Rengar. It gives him 450 health and 45 armor with a little bonus of 40 magic damage every second when you are near your target (which you as melee champion will be).

is also a great item for Rengar. It gives you armor, colldown reduction, health, health regeneration and it can slow the targets attack speed. Certainly worth buying.

this item is Angel on your shoulders. It gives you allot of armor and magic resist. And it has wonderful passive - it revives you when you die and gives you 750 health to make your escape. Need to say more? The only problem is that it has pretty long cooldown.

is also good, but its not as good as the others.

OFFENCE:

Zeke's Herald this item is good against AD team. It gives you Health, Cooldown reduction and all your allies attack speed and life steal. But you have better items and usually your support will get this item so there is no need for 2 on the team.

this is great all around item worth buying. Rengar doesn't benefit from all of its powers but is still item that is worth its money. Buy this item if you need everything at once.

another good item for Rengar. It gives him cooldown reduction as well as damage and attack speed when used. Buy it if you really need it.

this item is great for balanced team because it gives you attack damage and speed as well as armor penetration. Definitely worth getting.

this is item you should buy if you are facing high armor tank like Shen, Malphite or Rammus and he is giving you trouble.

MOVEMENT:

buy this (instead of Mercury's Treads if you are against AD team.

AP TEAM

DEFENCE:

is great item for AP team. It gives you health, magic resist and cooldown reduction. Great item if enemy has AP.

is item you can buy if enemy team has a lot of CC. It removes all debuffs (when activated) and it gives you magic resist.

is great item to counter AP team. It gives you a lot of health regeneration and magic resist.

OFFENCE

is item that you can swap for Black Cleaver when you are against heavy AP team. Because it gives you magic resist and attack speed. Its great item.

this is even better item (but a lot more expansive) than Wit's End. It doesn't give you attack speed but it gives you magic resist damage and so much more. If you take magic damage and it gets you below 30% of your health you gain shield that absorbs 400 magic damage and that is what makes this item so great.

NOTE: if i missed out any items please let me know.

JUNGLING

JUNGLING CORE ITEMS

Bonetooth Necklace

gives you tenacity and magic resist. Best boots for CC.

must have when jungling. It gives you damage, armor, life steal and every 3 minutes you can put down a ward. Great item.

superb item for fighters like Rengar. It gives you 700 health , 25 attack damage and slows the target wich is great for jungling. Nothing will escape you when you have Red buff, Frozen Mallet and Bola Strike.

Bonetooth Necklace is Rengar great unique item which rewards him for getting kills or assists. If you will have a lot of stacks (9-14) you will be great predator.

NOTE: other items are in the chapter above.

SOLO TOP

EARLY GAME

In Early game you should get Boots and 3x Health Potion. You can start defensive with Cloth Armor and 5x Health Potion or aggressive with just Doran's Blade. You should focus on last hitting minions and harassing opponent. Use your (empowered) Battle Roar to heal yourself. To harass build 5 stacks go in brush and leap on target use Battle Roar or Savagery. If you see chance try to have 5 stacks of Ferocity leap at the target, use Savagery for attack speed and some burst than quickly use Battle Roar, then use Bola Strike to slow him, Ignite him and try to catch up (jump from the brush or just run) then you should have Savagery up and just finish him.

When you first come back to spawn you should buy Hart of Gold (less money) or Phage (more money) and some Health Potion and Sight Ward and place it down in the brush so you avoid gank's. Next time you come you should get at least Bonetooth Necklace. If you have enough money also buy Mercury's Treads.

MID GAME

So now we should be working forward to Frozen Mallet and B.F.Sword to work towards The Blodthirster. By now we should know who are we dealing with (AP, AD or tanks) and buying items to counter that (magic resist, armor, or armor penetration). But before that finish Frozen Mallet and Bloodthirster. Help you team in team fights and hunt down low health enemy as well as their squishy's.

LATE GAME

You should be finishing your build and on the last two items that will counter enemy. Continue to hunt down enemies which are low on health or squishy and help out your team in team fights. Try to get as many stacks on Bonetooth Necklace as you can (now this job should be easy when you have all your items) so you will receive its bonuses.

TEAM FIGHTS

In team fights you should look for low health targets and squishy targets (like I never said that before) with Thrill of the Hunt and 5 stacks of Ferocity that shouldn't be a problem.
Don't show yourself too much because you will easily get focused and killed.

JUNGLE

JUNGLE ROUTE

Wraiths-Elder Lizard-Small Golem's-Wolfs-Big Golem

EARLY GAME

You should buy Boots and 3x Health Potion if you have someone to pull and help you with Wraiths and Lizard. If not you should start out with Cloth Armor and 5x Health Potion. Clear the Wraiths and Lizard (with Smite then move to small golem's. After this you could look for a gank in bottom lane just make sure you have 4-5 stacks of ferocity and Bola Strike not Battle Roar. If the gank is not possible go to wolfs and Big golem which you can keep for yourself or give it to the champion that is on mid (if he needs it of course).

When you first get back buy Madred's Razors or Boots. Try to get Wriggle's Lantern and Bonetooth Necklace as soon as possible. Continue to clear the jungle (you can try enemy's too bot if you get caught you will most likely die) and gank whenever you can.

With the help of the Wriggle's Lantern Ward and take down the Dragon.

MID GAME

Now you should have Mercury's Treads or Ninja Tabi (depending on the team you are playing against) Wriggle's Lantern and Bonetooth Necklace. If you are playing against AP team get Hexdrinker and then Phage. If not you can get Phage first then B.F.Sword, upgrade Phage into Frozen Mallet and then get Hexdrinker. You should still gank and clear out the jungle. Keep the Dragon warded (because Baron is not likely to be attempted by the enemy, but it can happen).

Also help out your team in team fights looking for squishy targets and targets that have low health and try to escape

LATE GAME

Clear out only buff camps (and Dragon) and healp in team fights. Consider selling out Wriggle's Lantern and buying Bloodthirster, Maw of Malmortius and Sunfire Aegis (or some other defense item). Help in Team fights you know what your job is :).

GANKING

When you unlock Thrill of the Hunt you have much more ganking power, because you can use surprise attack (if the enemy is not smart and they don't have oracles). You should sneak behind enemy and wait for 5 Ferocity. The rest is history. Jump on them and activate Savagery followed by another Savagery, use Bola Strike and Battle Roar and just keep slashing until you get Savagery up and that use it to just FINISH HIM.
