Ezreal - The prodigal explorer - Guide Introduction
--Please, as this is my first guide and I aim to make more of these, tell me how to improve in the comments, thanks!--
Hey, my name is Sam, my IGN is bankss0, and I play for Vice Versa ESports as an ADC or Top laner situated on the EUW server. This is my first guide on Mobafire so I am sorry in advance for any mistakes made. In this guide, I will go over all of the items I have chosen to go in my Ezreal build and why I have chosen them.
Ezreal - Pros and cons.
- Good at getting away using Arcane Shift
- Good early and late game
- Long range Q
- Ultimate does a lot of damage and has unlimited range.
- Can be difficult to play
- No CC so you may need a good CC support
- Needs lots of gold as he needs to rush Trinity Force
- Like all ADC's Ezreal is Squishy
- Focused a lot
Out of game
Rising spell force (PASSIVE) Hitting a target with any of Ezreal's abilities increases his own attack speed by 10%. This effect lasts for 5 seconds and stacks up to 5 times.
Mystic Shot (Q) Ezreal fires a bolt of energy that deals 35 / 55 / 75 / 95 / 115 physical damage and applies on-hit effects. If it strikes an enemy unit it reduces all of Ezreal's cooldowns by 1 second.
Essence Flux (W) Ezreal fires a fluctuating wave of energy at a targeted area. Any enemy champions it passes through take 70 / 115 / 160 / 205 / 250 magic damage, while any allied champions it travels through have their attack speed increased by 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40 % for 5 seconds.
Arcane Shift (E) Ezreal teleports to a target nearby location and fires a homing arrow at the nearest enemy unit dealing 75 / 125 / 175 / 225 / 275 magic damage.
Trueshot Barrage (R) Ezreal channels for 1 second to fire a powerful barrage of energy missiles, which deal 350 / 500 / 650 (+1.0 per bonus attack damage) (+90% of ability power) magic damage to each enemy unit they pass through. However, it deals 8% less damage for each additional unit it hits (30% minimum damage).
The summoner spells on Ezreal are pretty common on all ADC's. Here they are:
Flash is an extremely useful spell as it gives you that mobility. You may think that Ezreal will not need this due to his Arcane Shift yet, taking flash is very useful for getting away.
Barrier is very common on ADC's as usually they are focused and will have to take a lot of damage. Barrier on Ezreal is useful again to keep you from taking lots of damage from those final shots.
If you are in draft pick and you can see your laning opponents and you know they will not do tonns of damage, take ignite. Even though Ezreal is good at last hitting, ignite will help you so you don't have to tower dive.
The runes I have chosen are quite common throughout all ADC's. If you are new to the game, Im sure all you will probably want is damage to take down your opponents quickly and easily. I assure you this can be bad if you choose pure damage. Even if it can be good in some instances, taking some defence runes can help you to sustain your lane. Think about it, if you die at level 6 and your death timer is 10-25 seconds, that is CS that is lost and therefore no money to buy new items. It all ads up.
I have chosen:
Mark of Attack Damage
Seal of Armor
Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist
Glyph of Scaling Mana Regeneration
Quintessence of Attack Damage
Quintessence of Life Steal
Again, like all ADC's, they have a general mastery page. I go with the standard 21-0-9 setup. This is useful on Ezreal because you get the general damage in the offence and some people may challenge me for this but I have chosen to put my spare 9 points in Utility instead of Defence. This is because of the sustain in lane. If you have good health and mana regen, you will have great sustain in lane, better even with a support such as Soraka or Sona where you get constant buffs.
This is my skill sequence:
In game item build
My starting items are as followed:
A Doran's Blade is very useful on an ADC like Ezreal because it not only just gives the health and attack damage, it gives you that useful early game passive that helps to sustain during laning. You can do damage, take damage and heal from damage.
Health potions are useful again for sustaining in lane. If you drop low, pop out a potion and regenerate some health. This is useful on AD carries because they are usually very squishy. If you drop low, you will be able to regenerate using a Health Potion.
A Warding Totem is very simple. It is simply a stealth ward that is available for 1 minute. They can be useful as you can ward some brushes if your opposition Is using the bushes a lot. As this item is free, it is good to take as a starting item.
The core items are very common on most Ezreal builds. I will say this now, the Trinity Force is so important to have. It must be your first full item you build to.
Trinity Force as I said above is crucial on Ezreal for these reasons: His Trueshot Barrage, Essence Flux and Arcane Shift (Just the bolt fired after the teleport) all scale in AP. This is why lots of Ezreal players build AP. The Tri force gives you the AP along with some other great buffs from the Sheen, the attack speed from the Zeal and the extra damage and health from the Phage. Overall, this is a crucial item on Ezreal
Bloodthirster is common on loads of ADC's as it gives so much AD and some life steal to sustain your lane. This is a core item on most AD's.
Very useful item, the Berserker's Greaves give some good movement speed and 20% attack speed. This is a very useful item on Ezreal
Situational items - Attack
The items I have chosen for my situational attack are pretty common (Again) on most ADC champs. With situational attack you will be using these a lot more than the defence items. This is obviously because as an ADC you want to be carrying your team and to do that you need kills. To get the kills, you need some AD. In an example build, I would have 4 damage items, 1 movement item and 1 defence item.
Situational items - Defence
If I was in a game I would generally go for a Guardian Angel as a defence item as ADC's are focused a lot. Especially Ezreal from ganks because of his poke in lane is very good. Defence items will help to stop the deaths, and raise the kills.
In lane, you generally don't want to be going for kills. With Ezreal you really just want to be farming as you need to rush that Trinity Force. My advice is to just farm so much but at the same time, when you get a clear shot on the enemy, fire your Mystic Shot at them for poke. This will draw them back and if you do this a lot, they will become constantly low and always having to recall. This will give you the advantage as they will be missing CS. If you outlevel them by 2 levels, GG. You have won your lane.
You generally want a support like Leona or Taric as they have a lot of tank and lots of CC. I generally prefer Taric as he has the stun, heal and loads of tank. This is a great match for laning.
When you know you can get the damage down and kill the other ADC, get your support to stun the ADC. When they are stunned, spam your Q as much as you can and just put down as much damage as you can. If your jungler is ganking, even better, more damage and more money for all of you.
If your against a poke lane, start with Boots of Speed and Health Potion(s). This will help to dodge them and eventually catch them and take the kill.
If your against a low damage ADC, take a Long Sword and Health Potion(s).
Generally though, I would just recommend a Doran's Blade and a Health Potion
Some good combos to use are
Arcane Shift - Mystic Shot - Essence Flux - Trueshot Barrage
Mystic Shot - Essence Flux - Arcane Shift - Trueshot Barrage
