Ahri Ahri is one of the match-ups that you will actually WIN, and not go even in, seeing how TF does not have many winning match-ups

Katarina You will win every match-up here as Katarina can't trade, just make sure to not take as much damage from her Q. If she jumps you, just Gold Card Q her and back off.

Akali Free win matchup, Akali can't trade with you, pre-6 you bully her, after 6 you can gold card and poke her all you want, just make sure to save gold card for her to jump you, cause otherwise she will and can kill you.

Corki Easy to trade with pre-6, no threat at all. After 6, do not spend time trading with him, focus on roaming alot more instead.

Karthus Get boots + ghost, when fighting pop ghost and just run around and he won't be able to hit any of his Qs and you'll win trades. Get Zhonyas midgame, to avoid Karthus R.

Kassadin Free win lane. You can crush him pre-6 and crush him after 6, if he jumps you, gold card Q him and back off and you'll win trades.

Ekko Pretty easy lane, just do not go for longer trades, do your stuff and get out.

Hello and welcome to my all-around Twisted Fate guide! With this guide I will share my knowledge that I've acquired over my time playing Twisted Fate. Hopefully this guide will help you improve and show you new ways to play Twisted Fate.

Who am I?



I am Manzey, currently Platinum 2, climbing rapidly. I am a Twisted Fate main since around 13 months back.
I almost only play Twisted Fate as he is my favorite champion and in my opinion the most fun champion! I play Twisted Fate in all lanes and roles, with success!

Why Twisted Fate?



I play Twisted Fate because he is fun, works in all roles and he is very strong as a team carry!
Twisted Fate shines in all lanes due to his low cooldown stun/slow and his map presence at level 6.
He also have a very high damage output throughout the whole game, in all roles!
I also enjoy Twisted Fate cause he got alot of tools to make plays!

Summoner Spells & Keystones!



Summoner Spells!



Flash will be used for all matchups and all lanes/roles, so will not be mentioned as it is obvious.

Midlane:


Ignite is used mainly, but it is a preference depending on playstyle, if you enjoy playing aggressive(best option imo) then Ignite is the best summoner you can pick!

Teleport is used when you're looking to roam alot, splitpush late or if you're in a hard matchup or know from champ select that you will not kill your enemy without ganks, e.g of champs: Anivia, Orianna, Zed, Lulu.

Ghost is used mainly when you're playing against someone or a team that relies heavily on skillshots or catching you. Mainly vs Kog'Maw / Xerath but is also used in different matchups! Can be used aggressive & defensively.

Heal / Barrier is used rarely, which one you pick is not that important. It is used when you know you will be nuked down over getting poked down! Mainly used versus LeBlanc or Zed.

Exhaust will be used vs Zed and Yasuo only, only to counter their all-ins.

Cleanse use this summoner vs a cc heavy team.


Toplane:


Teleport will be used in all matchups, to allow you to roam to bottom lane aswell to get your items early and get back to lane quickly!


Jungle:


Smite is the only summoner to be used in the jungle, reasons are obvious, not possible without it.


ADC:


Heal will be used in ALMOST all matchups, it is the to-go-spell for ADC.

Cleanse can be used if you're confident in your ability to perform and not loose trades too often. Use vs Leona only.


Support:


Exhaust will be used all the time, you will need it! Trust me!


Keystones!

Midlane % Top AP % Support:


Thunderlord's Decree will be used in aggressive playstyle as it gives a huge damage boost and your W with E active+Q insta-triggers it for a huge burst!

Stormraider's Surge will be used if you wanna go for chasing and disengaging alot, it gives a HUUUGE movespeed boost, which is great if you can manage without Thunderlord's Decree .

AD


Fervor of Battle will be the only choice here, it increases your basic attacks by ALOT in longer fights.

Runes & Masteries!


Runes!



Midlane:


AP:
For mid you have the normal standard setup, which is:
3x Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed
9x Greater Mark of Magic Penetration
9x Greater Seal of Scaling Health
9x Greater Glyph of Scaling Cooldown Reduction

You can add variations on this, depending on what you're facing and how you plan to play the early game out, for example, vs AD Assassins, Talon, Zed, Yasuo, you might want some bonus armor, so just change yellows to 9x Greater Seal of Armor.

And something I've been trying out lately with great success is, if you're in a matchup where you will basic the enemy alot, e.g Ahri, Corki and melees change out the Magic Penetration marks for Greater Mark of Attack Damage, you'll have an easy time poking them with basics, it helps ALOT early game, and an early game lead will snowball hard lategame.

Toplane:

AP:
You will use the modified standard build.
3x Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed
9x Greater Mark of Attack Damage
9x Greater Seal of Scaling Health
9x Greater Glyph of Scaling Cooldown Reduction

The reasoning is pretty straight forward, you will be needing to attack damage your enemies alot more than midlane, so therefore you'll benefit alot from the extra early AD. Here you can also swap out the yellows to armor if you'd prefer that!

AD:
You will use a standard ADC runepage, which is:
3x Greater Quintessence of Attack Speed
8x Greater Mark of Attack Damage
1x Greater Mark of Critical Chance
9x Greater Seal of Armor
9x Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist

Both Marks & Glyphs are very flexible here, you can change them out for more attack speed if you prefer, but after testing alot, I've noticed that the bonus AD helps you both with lasthitting and proved more useful in early game trading, as more attack speed is only worth in longer fights, which won't happend that early in the game.

Jungle:

AP:
You will use the same runes as toplane AP TF, since you'll be basicing alot and you need the extra CDR & Movespeed.
3x Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed
9x Greater Mark of Attack Damage
9x Greater Seal of Scaling Health
9x Greater Glyph of Scaling Cooldown Reduction

Pretty straight forward, you can change movespeed over to attack speed, but its not recommended.

AD:
Here you can go ham on attack speed, since that will be the base factor of your damage.
3x Greater Quintessence of Attack Speed
9x Greater Mark of Attack Speed
9x Greater Seal of Armor
9x Greater Glyph of Attack Speed

Since you will be maxxing Stacked Deck attack speed will benefit you alot!

Botlane:

ADC:
Use normal ADC runes, nothing special
3x Greater Quintessence of Attack Speed
8x Greater Mark of Attack Damage
1x Greater Mark of Critical Chance
9x Greater Seal of Armor
9x Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist

Change around with some attack speed until you hit your sweet spot.

Support:
Use your AP Toplane runes, but a bit modified, remove the CDR for scaling magic resistance.
Support items will give you 40% CDR anyways.

3x Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed
9x Greater Mark of Attack Damage
9x Greater Seal of Scaling Health
9x Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist


Masteries



AP top & mid & jungle:



Sorcery :
It is a nice boost to your damage, you won't need the extra attack speed.

Feast:
This one is a preference, but I like the extra sustain rather than actually making myself weaker with Double Edged Sword

Vampirism :
Gives you bonus sustain over longer periods of time, even tho its not noticed as quickly, those times you survive with 15 HP, if it wasn't for this talent, you might've been dead already.

Oppressor :
You will mostly deal damage when your target is stunned, so this increases your E Q damage by alot, helps throughout the game.

Savagery:
This helps you lasthit early aswell as harass with your spells.

Secret Stash :
This is a preference, if you like the extra sustain, go for it, if you want the extra damage, go for Assassin , not really a dealbreaker.

Merciless :
Great damage increase, helps finish people off.

Dangerous Game :
Can save your life more times than you can imagine

Precision :
Great damage boost with flat penetration.

AD top & ADC & jungle:


Nothing really outstanding here to be honest, just a standard AD runepage.

Support:

Support will be the same as AP, but you get Meditation & Intelligence & Wanderer instead.

Abilities



(Passive) Loaded Dice


Loaded Dice is your passive ability. It grants you bonus gold upon killing a unit.
This passive does not seem good when reading it, but imagine you're at 150 cs and your enemy is at 150 cs you'll still be plenty gold ahead of your enemy.

(Q) Wild cards


Wild Cards is the ability you will use to damage your opponent down if you're playing AP. You will use Wild Cards either to clear waves or to poke your opponent, sometimes both. This is great for teamfights, as you can throw it into a group of enemies to severely damage the enemy team!

(W) Pick A Card


Pick A Card is the whole key to your kit, in all roles! You will use Pick A Card to poke, slow and stun the enemies! It's like 3 spells combined into 1. It is crucial to pick the right card at the right moment.

Blue card will deal the most damage out of the 3 cards aswell as restoring mana. Use this for poke and to maintain mana.

Red card will deal moderate damage but in AOE, it will also slow your opponents. This card will mainly be used for waveclear, but can also be used to poke the enemy by casting it on nearby minions.

Gold card will deal the lowest amount of damage, but will still be your main card when attacking champions. At max level the gold card will stun for 2 seconds with a 6 second cooldown (without CDR). Use this in combination with your (Q) Wild Cards

(E) Stacked Deck


Stacked Deck is a very strong passive ability, it deals bonus magic damage every 4 attacks, also increases your attack speed. This ability is key to AD / Attack Speed TF.
Use this in combination with Lich Bane proc+ Pick A Card for heavy damage.

(R) Destiny


Destiny is a great ultimate ability! With it you can roam across the map instantly. Use it combined with your stun card to ensure a free kill! Destiny can also be used to reveal your enemies position in lategame, if you suspect them doing baron, use your ulti. Destiny can also be used in lane, when facing a champion with stealth, such as Vayne, this can really throw them off if you gold card them in their invis before they get the chance to break it.

Item choices


Items


So, what items to pick? What items are needed and what items are flexible? And why?

I will go over some of the few essential items that you should go for every game and also explain why!

The items mentioned below are the few special ones that are standing out from other items for Twisted Fate.

AP:

Lich Bane


Twisted Fate might be the only champ that builds this every single game when playing AP!
The reason for this is the synergy it has with his spells, to increase his damage output by a bunch it is normally built early on in the game! But don't get me wrong, it is not a mandatory first buy! If needed, delay to third item, you might lack damage but you're far better off surviving than dealing slightly more damage.

Rod of Ages


Rod of Ages have always been a strong pick for Twisted Fate, since he is fairly squishy and he lacks mobility, so Rod of Ages help. And now since the buff of Rod of Ages and the nerf of other items, Rod of Ages is a very strong pick for first item.

Zhonyas Hourglass


Even tho Zhonyas isn't really mandatory it is really a to-go item in all games, except you're way way better than your opponents and do not do any mistakes whatsoever. Zhonyas will allow you to overextend for the gold card pick, then use Zhonyas and allow your team to follow up while you stand there, shining bright.

AD:

Rapid Firecannon


Rapid Firecannon is a great item for AD TF, it allows you to get a pick on an enemy or stun an escaping enemy. It also have great stats for AD TF, which all benefit him.

Blade of the Ruined King


Blade of the Ruined King is a great item, as it gives you lifesteal along with more damage + attack speed. Will be bought first as ADC TF.

Skill Combos


Here I will show you the most common combos when going for either poke or a kill.

Normal poke combo: Stacked Deck + Pick A Card

Maximum damage poke: Stacked Deck + Pick A Card + Wild Cards

Ultimate ganking: Destiny + Pick A Card + Wild Cards

Jumping an enemy: Pick A Card + Flash + Wild Cards + Stacked Deck

Running Ignite?: Pick A Card + Stacked Deck + Wild Cards + Ignite + Basic Attacks

Gameplay



Midlane:
In midlane you can both play aggressive and very defensive, depending on your preferred playstyle, I prefer going hard.
Level 1-3: Just farm, your Q will only be on level 1, so you won't deal any damage. If vs melee, go ham with basics to get the early lead.
Level 4-6: From here on out, you can start trading with your opponent, depending on what outcome you want. When you see the enemy wasting a spell with a CD longer than 5 seconds on a minion wave, go for the harass and back out right after and win the trades
Level 7-10: Your goal now is to shove lane and then head straight to bot or top for ulti gank, or just run in and gold card if they're really overextended. Get fed and get your team fed.
Level 11-18: As the game progresses your job is to catch people off-guard, you will be very squishy throughout the game, so play it safe and gold card someone thats mispositioned. When you have 2-3 items and see an ADC farming top/bot alone, feel free to ulti TP and get a freekill. Also, if you're not playing from superbehind, feel free to splitpush whenever your ultimate is up, you will MELT towers late game and have super map presence.

Level 1-3: Depending on wether you're playing AD or AP you will have different objectives, I recommend going AD top 90% of the times, only go AP if you're vs another AP. If you're AD 1-3 is where you set the grounds for the whole laning phase, go super aggressive, don't mind missing out on a few last hits, aslong as you get the harass down on the enemy early. Your W and E in combination will melt people early. So simply basic all the time as soon as the enemy goes for a lasthit.
If you're playing AP, do the complete opposite! Just farm, farm and farm, your goal is to get Catalyst as soon as possible, so you can sustain trading with the enemy.
Level 4-6: AD: If everything worked out 1-3 you should be punishing the enemy heavily. He should fear you. Just keep doing what you're doing, it will only get better with your items!
AP: If you have Catalyst now, feel free to start trading, catalyst will sustain you, but still your objective is to not die and farm and gank mid when ulti is up.
Level 7-10: As for both AD and AP, laning phase is starting to loosen up a bit, people are starting to roam etc. You will still stay on your lane until the enemys first tower is down.
As soon as the tower is down, go mid and help out, ulti gank bot. But always keep an eye on toplane incase the enemy toplaner attempts to push.
Level 11-18: For AP; refer to the midlane 11-18; for AD, play as if you're an ADC, stay in the backline and attack whomever you can reach. If you see the enemy ADC farming, ulti and kill him. There is no ADC that can 1v1 TF late game, as TF have self-peel, so they will probably be dead before the stun duration is over. Unless you're behind.

Jungle:
Level 1-3: I prefer to start krugs, no matter if I'm playing AP or AD, but starting frog and blue will work aswell, its just that you have to kite better. (Train this in custom games) Go for normal jungle route 1-3, then if you have plenty of HP left, go for a midlane gank, since you have a guaranteed stun, it is a 100% flash or kill situation.
Level 4-6: Keep ganking alot and take scuttles as its free gold and 2 stacks if you're playing AD. If there is no gank opportunities feel free to farm, its alot better than ganking and failing and getting put behind. As soon as you hit level 6, go for a free kill gank.
Level 7-10: At this time you can just roam everywhere and take camps along the way, you should be cleaning them up pretty fast.
Level 11-18: You will be an ADC once again, but if you go the tankier route, feel free to act as an engager. If you have a banshee+randuins you will be pretty strong and have an insane damage output.

Support:
Level 1-3: Just peel for your ADC and stun and poke and put out damage, they will fear the stun card, so run up towards them and let the cards cycle and observe the enemy ADC loose out on lasthits.
Level 4-6: Same strategy, just keep making the enemy loose lasthits and go for stun cards, if they're overextended, go for the kill.
Level 7-10: Start roaming, that level 6 ulti mid is suprising for alot of midlaners, make sure to find out if they've used their flash before you go, so you can know where to position. It is really appreciated by midlaners to get carried by a stunbot.
Level 11-18: You will be a CC-bot, with slows and stuns flying left and right, making people terrified, peeling for your whole team.

ADC:
Level 1-3: Farm and trade heavily if they overextend, you'll be suprised by the damage you do with your W and a couple of basics.
Level 4-6: Farm and harass ALOT, you will be stronger than the enemy adc cause you have a stun meanwhile they're just auto-attacking.
Level 7-10: Ulti gank, get fed, this is where ADC TF shines, you can 1v1 anyone once you got a few items, abuse this.
Level 11-18: Go for picks across the map, if you see anyone alone when you ulti, go for it, freelo.

Tips & Tricks


Double gold cards!


At 0%, 10%, 35% and 40% you can pull out another gold card directly after the CD finishes on your Pick A Card!

Early game farming


During laning phase you need to know how to lasthit properly and how to use your spells to secure lasthits, especially under towers! Hop into a custom game to practice this!

Pick your battles!


Do not go for poke and trades every chance you get, pick them out carefully to ensure that you come out as the winner! Examples where you should go in are when the enemy is going for a lasthit(Preferably the cannon minion as they'll spend more effort into that one), or right after they've used their only slow/stun on minions, or wasted their mobility spells to try to go on the offensive, or when you know their ultimate is on cooldown, or when you know their jungler is at toplane

Not thinking of these things, espescially as Twisted Fate can and will get you killed. Twisted Fate is not a strong duelist in the early game so pick your battles well and do not go in for longer fights.

How to trade


When you're trading, either just throw a (Q) Wild Cards or to make sure your (Q) hits and to deal even more damage then basic attack minions until your (E) Stacked Deck is up, then pull out a gold card with Pick A Card and throw it at the enemy and while they're stunned throw your Wild Cards at their face and then back off. There is nothing your enemy can do to defend from this, unless they can dodge the gold card with champions such as Master Yi Alpha Strike or Fizz Playful / Trickster, make sure to bait those spells out before you throw your gold card.

Play carefully


Twisted Fate is very weak to ganks, so make sure to always have a well placed Stealth Ward / Vision Ward in the bush for safety!
If the enemy jungler is missing, do not push as much, or shove the lane and back to base.

Roam alot!


As soon as you get level 6, look for ganks. Twisted Fates global presence is what makes him shine, so take advantage of that. Put fear into your enemies, win your allies lanes for them! Twisted Fate does not win the lane, Twisted Fate wins the game.

Remember to use your ultimate in teamfights


You can use Destiny in teamfights to reposition and to put fear in your enemies, aswell as reveal stealthed / flanking enemies.


When you're not doing anything!


When you're not doing anything, e.g if you've just cleared the wave or too scared to farm, go around a corner just to get out of sight, just to put fear in the enemy, not knowing where you are or if you're going to use your ulti, people up to Master won't even care to time your ulti, roughly than estimating its time to 1 min cd. So rather than standing around, put fear into your enemies! Your ultimate can be used even when it is on cooldown :-)

Move alot!


Between basics, between spells, between everything. MOVE MOVE MOVE MOVE, it is so important to mastering Twisted Fate, never stand still, standing still you're an easy target, running around with your high movespeed you'll make the enemy nervous cause they never know when you'll turn towards them. It creates alot of pressure, increases your damage output, allows you to dodge skillshots easier, since you're already moving and it looks cool :p
