Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
Hello and welcome to my very first champion guide here on mobafire. This time featuring:
I think Talon is one of the most fun-to-play champions. He has a great burst and is quite easy to play with. Jumping people and them bursting them down stays alot of fun :D
I hope you enjoy reading this guide and that you will learn something about this champion. I put a fair amount of time and effort in this guide so please try this build before rating this guide. Constructive critisism is always appreciated. If you leave a vote please tell my why you voted (up or down). This build is focussed on non-ranked play.
Pros / Cons
+Solid escape ability
+Lot's of disables/CC
+Fun to play
+Looks like Ezio
-Tends to get focussed
-Vunerable when ultimate is on CD
-Vunerable to CC
-Needs feed/farm to be usefull
-Overall long cooldowns
-Easy to learn, Hard to master
This masteries give me all the things Talon needs. I take and to improve flash and ignite/exhaust.
With ths runes i aim for a strong early game.
Greater Mark of Lethality
Greater Seal of Armor
Greater Glyph of Magic Resist
Greater Quintessence of Lethality
My seals and glyphs are for survivability early game. Its not very likely that you will get killed in the first 15 minutes. You can also take Greater Glyph of Cooldown Reduction
My seals give me armor penetration. This increases your damage, especially early game.
For quints are 3 viable options in my opinion.
Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage
greater quintessence of desolation
Fortitude: Gives you extra health. 3 of these make you 7 bar (fk yeah!) talon in early game. Good for pretty much every champion
Strength: Gives you extra AD, that means extra damage.
Desolation: More armor penetration (jippy :D) but don't let the wife know you are going for extra penetration.
Flash is flash, OP and a great escaping mechanism. I take ignite because its great for finishing of nearly dead enemies, it helps alot with tower-diving, i use ignite also for extra damage in 1v1 situations. It really helped me out with taking down high-value-targets.
Take instead of ignite. Helps you with chasing and escaping.
Take instead of flash. For people who either don't like flash or don't have flash (level <12)
Everything else is pretty worthless in my eyes
mercyMercy (passive):Gives you 10% bonus damage with your auto attacks against targets that are slowed, stunned, immobilized or supressed. not the best passive, but with the damage amplification from Cutthroat it is gonna hurt your enemies when you have items like Frozen Mallet.
Noxian Diplomacy (Q):Your next basic attack deals bonus damage and makes the targeted champion bleed. The bleed deals damage over time and makes the target visible for a short time. Noxian Diplomacy also resets your attack-timer, so use it after a basic attack for more burst. Great skill to farm minions, push towers and deal extra damage in duels. The bleed may also finish off enemies that slipped through your grasp and it will make them go WTF!? quite often.
Rake (W):This is Talon's bread and butter skill. It deals damage each time the blades hit an enemy. The blades are thrown in a cone shape so its not very hard to aim. Enemies that are hit by Rake are also slowed ALOT. Rake makes chasing very easy, but it has its defensive uses. Your laning partner is getting chased and is about to die... rake... problem solved. Great skill for farming minions after you get your The Brutalizer
cutthroatCutthroat (E):lets you leap to your enemy and silence them. You also get a nice damage amplification over the next few seconds.
Great skill to engage enemies, saving allies by silencing that annoying AP caster, jump over some of the walls or as ANOTHER escaping mechanism. (By jumping to an enemy minion wave while being chased)
Shadow Assault (ultimate):Makes Talon disappear and throw out blades that damages every enemy it passes through. The blades stay on the map a few seconds and then return to Talon. Again damaging every enemy it passes through. Talon has increased movement speed while invisible. Can be casted again to manually return the blades to you.
Also this abillity has different uses. It is your primary escape mechanism, it can be used to chase your enemy and its used to increase your burst it also can be used to farm whole lines of minions in combination with Rake. The main use of Shadow Assault is BURST!! carfully plan a combo (more info later on) or stand IN your enemy and quickly cast Shadow Assault twice. This abillity has a pretty low cooldown, so use it often.
Explanation of abillity sequence:
I max Rake right away as it is your primary damage and chasing skill. But when it comes to what i should max next... because i use all my abilities in combinations i don't max Q and E over eachother. I take them one after another like EQEQEQE this way all your skill will deal damage and this will increase your ability to burst and assassinate. And ofcource take your ultimate when you can at level 6, 11 and 16.
- The Bloodthirster: gives you alot of life steal and attack damage, one of the best AD items in the game imo.
- Trinity Force: a must-buy for talon in my eyes, increases all the stats talon uses apart from the 30 ability power
- Youmuu's Ghostblade: Cooldown reduction AND armor penetration!? GIMME!
- Infinity Edge: great for almost every AD based champion. Gives you alot of crit chance and attack damage. Makes finishing off a champion when all your skills are on cooldown alot easier.
Here are some examples of good defensive items.
- Banshee's Veil: makes you able to tank skills like a baws. Ashe arrow? morgana snare? no problem with Banshee's Veil but be carefull when on CD though.
- Force of Nature: fine item against alot of AP
- Thornmail: if the enemy's team has alot of auto-attack based champions like Tryndamere and Ashe pretty cheap for 100 armor
- Frozen Heart: also great for auto-attack based champions but i prefer thornmail.
- Quicksilver Sash: Since talon gets focussed alot with CC's i think this is a great item. It works also for Ignite and Hemoplague
The only viable choises for me are mercury's threads and Boots of Swiftness
mercury's threads gives you good protection against heavy cc teams. Boots of Swiftness to dodge skillshots like Brand Sear or Morgana Dark Binding.
Here are some combo's for talon's abilities:
Noxian Diplomacy> cutthroat>auto attack> Rake
Noxian Diplomacy> cutthroat>auto attack> Rake> Shadow Assault
Noxian Diplomacy> cutthroat>auto attack> Rake> Shadow Assault> Ignite
Know your role
Talon is an anti-APcarry-assassin and you should keep that in mind. The sequence of you killing people should be:
AP caster>AD carry>Supports>bruisers>tanks
You are the first to get in a teamfight, pick the squishy's and then get out to eventually turn around and rape the remaining enemies. Don't use Shadow Assault at the beginning of your combo.
Farming with talon
Good laning partners for talon are champions that have alot of disrupts/snares/pulls
Wait for your partner to snare/pull then send them to oblivion.
on low-elo normal games it doesnt really matter what partner you choose. Even Graves works well with Talon if you let Graves farm. Take a kill or two in the laning phase and you are done.
If your team has a jungler, pick solo-top.
Thank you for reading/rating and commenting i hope you enjoyed this guide and learned to love Talon.
