Introduction

Hello gamers!

I am Maven and this is my Fizz guide :) Let's get started with the basics...

Fizz is my favourite and best champion. He is an AP Assassin that can easily destroy his lane opponent and help his allies in other lanes with his successful ganks and high mobility.

In this Guide you will learn everything you need to know about Fizz from a player that mains him.

*NOTE: Please do not Down-vote the Guide, first read through it and if you don't understand a certain item pick, PM me or post a comment asking about it. I will be happy to explain all of my decisions. On the other hand, if you like my guide, make sure to UP-vote it, it really helps others see it as well! :)*

Pros / Cons

Every champion in League of Legends has its Ups and Downs, including Fizz. Remember, every champion has its weakness.

Pros:

  • High Mobility
  • High burst damage
  • Carries Games
  • Counters most mid laners

Cons:

  • CC is strong against him (When snared can't use E)
  • Melee champion
  • Takes time to Master completely

Abilities

Fizz has some great skills that do Tons of damage and have high mobility at the same time. Let's take a look at them.

Passive (Nimble Fighter):

"Fizz's dexterity allows him to ignore unit collision and take (4/6/8/10/12/14) less damage from basic attacks."

A very useful passive, it allows you to escape through any units in the game. Use this to your advantage when escaping from enemies as they will collide with the units, making them move around instead of straight forward. Easy escape for you!

Q (Urchin Strike):

"Fizz dashes a fixed distance in the direction of his target, dealing his total attack damage as physical damage plus additional 10 / 40 / 70 / 100 / 130 (+60% of ability power) magic damage to it. The ability will also apply on-hit effects."

A great gap closing ability that does tons of damage. I prefer to max it after my E, for maximum damage potential. Don't forget to activate your W as the ability trigers a basic attack with it as well.

W (Seastone Trident):

"(Passive): Fizz's autoattacks rend his target, dealing 30 / 40 / 50 / 60 / 70 (+35% of ability power) magic damage over 3 seconds that strengthens by 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 % of the target's missing health. Multiple autoattacks will only refresh the duration. The damage caps at 270 against minions and monsters.[/h3]
(Active): Fizz's attacks are empowered by 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 (+35% of ability power) for the next 5 seconds, dealing additional magic damage on-hit and causing grievous wounds to his opponents."

A powerful ability which I prefer to max last due to the high health melting in late game in team fights. Once activated it will reduce enemy healing effects by 50%, giving you an easy burst. Great for champions like Master Yi which have big health regen spells. (others: Mundo, Zac, Soraka,...)

E (Playful / Trickster):

"Fizz hops onto his trident in a nearby location, becoming untargetable for 0.75 seconds and gaining the ability to use Trickster before the effect ends. If not activated again Fizz slams the ground dealing damage and slowing nearby enemies. If activated again (before hitting the ground) it hops to a nearby location while dealing damage."

One of my favourite abilities of the game, allows you an easy escape, hops over wall, tons of damage and a slow! Max it first for the best scaling damage and LOTS of mobility, making sure you escape every gank while doing tons of damage.

R (Chum the Waters):

"Fizz throws a fish in a line that will bind itself onto the first enemy champion it hits. If it doesn't hit an enemy champion it will stay on an area, and it will stick to the first enemy champion that walks into the area.
Regardless of position, after 1.5 seconds, a Shark will emerge from the earth to eat the fish, dealing 200 / 325 / 450 (+100% of ability power) magic damage, knocking up and slowing all enemies by 50 / 60 / 70 % in the area for 1.5 seconds."

Another fantastic ability, a very useful ultimate for both team fighting and 1v1 fights. It does tons of damage and knocks your target up in the air, allowing you to burst your enemies down, without them even touching you! Yes, that's the power of the fish. Prepare to be destroyed.

Runes

For Fizz, I picked the standard AP carry runes, which give him a lot of MR, AP, Magic Penetration and Mana regen. This works well against all AP mid laners.

If you are facing a champion that is AD, for example Kha'Zix or Zed, take flat Armor runes instead of your Mana regen yellows to give you early game survivability. If they still do a lot of damage, buy your Seeker's Armguard and own their face!

Summoner Spells

This chapter will give you aditional information about the Summoner spells used by Fizz.

Ignite

- Useful spell to easily pick up your kills if your enemies are low HP and barely out of reach. It's good through out the whole game, also providing you a nice advantage early game.

Flash

- Standard spell for most champions in the game for more escapes and safety. Needs no further explanation.

Teleport

- A very useful spell in mid to late game, providing your team easy ganks on other lanes, as well as backdooring with your Lich Bane in late game.

Barrier

- If your enemies have high burst damage that you cannot deny just with your E, use this spell to prevent your death. It will give you a bonus shield which is also good for engaging team fights and tower diving (when you are low hp).

Assassination Combo

To easily assassinate your enemies use the following combo:

Before level 6:

Use your E Playful / Trickster to dodge enemy abilities and land on your enemy. Then activate your W Seastone Trident and use your empowered basic attacks to damage the enemy. As soon as they are trying to run away, close your gap with your Q Urchin Strike while dealing damage. Keep doing that before your enemy is low HP and then do it again, this time activating your Ignite as well, picking up an easy Kill.

After level 6:

Use your "Before level 6 combo" until your enemy is low enough HP for you to finish him/her off. For your last engage land your ultimate on the enemy and just do your combo.

Starting Items

For starting items I prefer to take:

Sight Ward x2

Health Potion x5

Mana Potion x4

Why you ask? This inspired me on Froggen's stream. Once I saw it there (before that, I always started with Boots + 3 hp pots), I used it to try it out. And it turned out to be AMAZING! It gives you incredible lane survivability with all the potions you get, especially when the enemies poke you a lot since you are melee.

The two sight wards will help you prevent the enemy jungler of ganking you. Two good spots you can place it are:

1. Between enemy wraiths and river
2. Opposite bush of the enemy wraiths (opposite side of the first ward)

NOTE: From the previous build in the 3.5 patch, I have now changed the amount of potions to 5 HP pots and 4 Mana pots, as you can now only get 5 potions at a time (HP and Mana separately) in the 3.6 patch (Lissandra patch).

Item Explanation

In this chapter, I will explain my standard Item picks for Fizz.

I was going for flat damage early on in the game (as well as mid game), to make sure to snow ball the game. With enough kills and wards you will not die in this part of the game. In late game I went for Safety. You don't want to throw the game by getting killed when you are the carry. Better safe than sorry.

Let's move on to the actual items at the end of the game.

Sorcerer's Shoes

- Standard pick for most AP carries, providing enough movement speed as well as Magic penetration.

Rabadon's Deathcap

- Another standard pick for most AP carries to add a ton of Ability Power to your build, combined with the extremly useful passive on the item, increasing your total AP.

Lich Bane

- A very strong pick for Fizz, since his Abilities have low cooldowns. Combined with low cooldowns, Fizz has high AP Damage and is melee, so this item will provide a lot of burst damage to enemies and enemy turrets.

Zhonya's Hourglass

- Better safe than sorry! This item will add some armor to your build, to defend you from enemy AD Carries and if you are in trouble, you can use its Active to make yourself un-targetable, while you wait for your cooldowns to get back to 0.

Void Staff

- A very strong pick for Fizz if the enemies are getting Magic Resistance, because it gives you AP, as well as Magic Penetration to destroy your enemies.

Guardian Angel

- Again, better safe than sorry! While your Zhonya's hourglass wont be enough late game, Guardian will give you a bigger chance to Ace your enemies + it also gives you some Armor and MR.

Situational Items

Abyssal Scepter

- A very useful item if their team is mainly AP and stacking Magic Resistance versus you.

Deathfire Grasp

- Use this item if you need some extra burst to kill your mighty enemies. They will fall...

Liandry's Torment

- Useful against teams and champions that use Health in their builds. It will melt it down, making sure you take them out.

Rylai's Crystal Scepter

- Useful item if you have enemies that have good escapes. It will give you enough time to catch up with them and slow them again. Also gives some health.

Warmog's Armor

- Maybe feeling like going a bit more bruiser style? You want more health when all of your enemies attack you at once. This will give it to you.

Farming

If you follow this guide, you will have the easiest time farming with Fizz as you possibly can have. His E (Playful / Trickster) is an amazing ability when maxed first, allowing you high mobility and easy farming - it can clear waves with just one use.

Don't forget to take Wraiths every minute or so, based on what is going on in your lane.

Ideal:
- Push your lane
- Take wraiths
- Push your lane again
- Gank other lanes

Early game

For Early game, I would recommend you to play safe till level 3, when you can out-burst most mid laners.

Use your pre-6 combo in the previous chapters to get your enemies to low HP and then go in one last time with Ignite (if you use it) to ensure a possible first blood for your team and easy snow ball for you.

Mid game

In mid game, it's your time to shine!

Once you hit level 6 you can try to kill your enemy once again, making sure you get a bigger advantage over them OR you can gank another lane by walking or using your Teleport.

With your easy ganks you can make sure your allies snowball the game as well, so you can carry with them, instead of alone.

Don't forget to clear Wraiths and maybe counter jungle your enemy!

Late game

In late game you can use your Teleport to backdoor enemies OR you can split push and when you see a fight starting, easily teleport to a nearby ward and finish off your enemies.

When backdooring your Lich Bane comes in handy, so don't forget to use your abilities when attacking the tower for the fastest destruction.

Lane opponents

If you play Fizz properly you can outplay any opponent, no matter who they are. In this section you will find out weaknesses of your enemies in lane. As a Fizz player, I have played versus all champions in mid lane and I know how to play versus them as Fizz.

Let's start.

Ryze - your usual opponent if you first pick Fizz. They think if you are Fizz, Ryze will beat you. I don't think so. Not a single Ryze player beat me so far. Here is the secret: Your goal is the EARLY game! You can build your advantage in the beginning of the game as soon as you hit level 3. Start bursting him down slowly. Make sure to stand between minions when he wants to snare you and then E to him. Use your combo and out-trade him without a problem :) When you hit 6 you should have at least a kill by now and destroy him with your Fish!

Mordekaiser - Huehuehuehue! Another "strong" pick against Fizz, but there is a secret. Your job is to move away from your allied minions, letting Mordekaiser decide between harassing you or farming. If he chooses to attack you, E on top of him right before he uses his AoE annoying spikes spell which everyone hates so much. It wont give him a shield so you can burst him down with your combo. *NOTE: CAREFUL of his ultimate! It's like an ignite but lasts longer so make sure to use potions or back when he uses it on you. Your choice.

Lux - This is one hell of an annoying champion. With her long range poke, if played correctly, she will be able to stay far away from you and still be able to farm, avoiding your damage. If she tries to use her binding on you and is close enough, E on top of her or at least close to her. Then Q and W. She will probably use her shield, so it will take forever to bring her to low HP. Care of enemy ganks if you get binded so make sure to practice mechanics! If she is staying behind and is playing passive, roam around and gank other lanes so you can snowball the game.

Anivia - This is a very easy lane for a Fizz. You outburst her by far and you can dodge her spike as well, avoiding all the damage she does. One thing you need to be careful of is her stun! It will make you unable to E away. So wait for her to use her stun on you and then jump on her and burst her down.

Diana - Diana is a hard counter to Fizz in my opinion. Her shield is very strong even if you pop it with your burst, she will get another one by you just standing next to her. I would strongly recommend playing more aggressive before level 6, otherwise you are pretty much doomed. Ask your jungler for a gank or two and make sure to roam to other lanes. Once you get enough kills to out-trade her it is your time to shine.

Akali - Another strong pick against Fizz, Akali is one of the rarest mid laners that have a higher burst than Fizz. Same with Diana, make sure your jungler comes for a gank or two and play more aggressive before level 6, once she hits 6 and you aren't far enough ahead, you will lose every trade. An abyssal scepter might be good against her.

Twisted Fate - This is a very easy lane for a good Fizz. Wait for TF to get his red/blue/yellow card on and once he throws it, just E on top of him. Use your Q and W combo and you will get behind him, dodging his wild cards. At level 6 make sure to stop him from teleporting with your ultimate, then just burst him down again.

Galio - A dangerous pick against Fizz, but not un-counterable. Galio's secret is Magic Resistance and his strong spell that makes him heal every time he gets damaged (a great counter to your W and burst damage). For Galio I recommend you baiting him into using his sheild and then burst him down. Make sure to call for ganks and if the Galio is still strong, buy an Abyssal Scepter for the MR reduction. Don't forget to pick up some Magic Penetration as well to counter his MR ;)

Kassadin - Kassadin is strong with his burst damage and silence, but a true Fish (Fizz) can easily outplay him. He always starts his combo with his silence, so make sure to be ready for it. It's a fast spell but you can dodge it with your E. Practice enough to make sure once you dodge it, you land your E on top of him, possibly slowing him, then just burst him down. Good luck!

Elise - Elise is strong against you because of her high burst damage, but you can outplay her without a problem. She will start of in her human form, trying to land a stun on you. Use this to your advantage. Right after the stun she will use her Q and W. In best case scenario you can dodge the stun and the W (exploding spider) with your E. Try to land it on top of her and take down her health! She will turn to spider form. Here you can either continue bursting or run back. If she is low enough and you backed out, once she is in her human form use your ultimate on her (then she can't dodge it - her spider form and rappel will be on cooldown) and once again burst her down. Good luck!

Ahri - Ahri's strong side are her amazing and beautiful looks. She will try to charm you! But don't let her fool you. She is a fox! Once you see her blowing a kiss to you ( Charm), use your E and jump on her. Use your Q and W to land behind her, dodging her Q and bursting her down! When you have your ultimate, be careful! She can dodge it with her ultimate Spirit Rush. Only use it when you are right next to her, so her reflexes will be a lot slower.

Karthus - This is a very easy lane for you in the early game, you will have no problem bursting him down. You can E over his slow (the purple net) and burst him down again. However, in late game, make sure not to go directly for him, rather go for their AD carry first, his AoE damage in late game is insane and unless you get some Magic Resist, it will be difficult to survive it. This is why you must put him behind in lane, so you will have a big advantage in team fights. Good luck!

Syndra - Syndra is a champion that focuses on burst damage to only one enemy at a time. Before level 6, dodge her abilities and try to burst her down. Once she hits level 6, wait for her to use her ultimate and dodge it with your E. You will escape all the damage and then you will be able to burst her down with your "After level 6" combo. GL HF.

*More opponents will be added soon. Make sure to comment which one you would like to see next*

Your Job & TEAM WORK

Remember, you are not a SOLO player! Even if it's called Solo Queue, you aren't alone in the game. You play as a team and only with team work, you will win the game.

In team fights, your job is to take down enemy AD or AP carries. They are the strongest in the enemy team and can easily take down your allies and you if played correctly.

Use your ultimate on them and practice your skill shots to land it on the enemy carries. Most of the time, your enemies will stand next to their carries so you can knock them all up. When that happens you can jump their carries and one shot them like a boss!

When you throw your URF (or shark) make sure to tell your tank to engage the fight, so he is the first target focused.

Assassination in Team Fights

It takes skill and practice to destroy in team fights. If playing against a good team, they will know what to do when you jump between them, so you need to do it smart!

Wait for an engage of your team's tank and then follow behind him. Make sure that the enemies are already attacking him! Once he is being attacked move to the side of the fight. Their carries are positioned behind the enemies. So instead of moving all in, face front to the enemies, move at the side of them as they will be paying their attention to the tank in the middle of the fight. Practice your ultimate to land it on either the AD or AP carry (preferably AD carry) and then burst him/her down. Here is an example of it:

BLUE: Fizz (you)
CYAN: Your allies
RED: Enemies
Black: Your tank
Purple: Enemy ADC

Once the carry is dead, proceed to other members of the enemy team.

Your focus should go like this: AD Carry > AP Carry > Top laner > Jungler > Support

Summoning the URF

You may wonder, how to summon the mighty Urf that will help you and your allies in team fights. The key to that is simple.

Buy RP, go to the store and buy yourself a mighty Fisherman Fizz skin! Reach level 6 with your mighty abilities and use your ultimate. The urf is coming...
