Introduction

Welcome to my Veigar Guide. First let me briefly explain my guide. This is more of a glass cannon Veigar build, this is just how I think Veigar should be played. Feel free to replace some items with more tanky items. More on this in the Items section.

Veigar has a very weak early game, don't play too aggressive. Just farm with your Baleful Strike until level 6. More on this in the "Early Game" section.

Note: not quite done with the formatting and content part of this guide.

Pros / Cons

Pros

  • Veigar has some of the best burst capability in the game by dropping an Event Horizon, then unloading everything else.
  • Has some awesome AP scaling.
  • Massive edge on other mages with the Baleful Strike AP gain passive.
  • Farms like a pro.
  • Strong late game.

Cons

  • If Event Horizon is missed, or on cool down, there is no escaping.
  • Not a strong early game.
  • Enemy team WILL rage at your burst.

Summoner Spells

Ignite
Ignite is a nice spell to have if you are having trouble securing kills, or your team has enough teleports. Ignite can also help with Veigar's weak early game.

Flash
Flash is a must have on, due to his total reliance on .

Clarity
Ideally you don't need Clarity, early game if you play right mana is not a real problem, and late game you should have a mana item.

Teleport
If you feel good enough to not need Ignite, Teleport is always a good choice. It can be used to defend a tower nobody is near, or get to a team fight in time to help out.

Skill Sequence

Sequence
I take a point in Baleful Strike at level one and max i by level 9. Then put a point in Event Horizon, and max it by level 13. The first point to put into Dark Matter is at level 8. Take a point in Primordial Burst at levels 6, 11, and 16.

Reasoning
Some might max Dark Matter first, but the problem with this is based on my early game strategy you shouldn't be aggressive enough o need to use this ability. See "Early Game" section.

Your Baleful Strike deals some decent damage, between it and Event Horizon, you won't have any problems early game.

This sequence is focused on mid-late game power.

Abilities

Baleful Strike(Q)
This is a low cooldown damaging ability that is good early game especially. What I want to focus on here is its passive. For every minion you last hit with Baleful Strike, you gain 1 permanent AP. This is amazing. You can find yourself having immense amounts of AP when combined with the Rabadon's Deathcap and other high AP items. This is your entire early game goal: FARM YOUR BALEFUL STRIKE.

Dark Matter(W)
This is a high-damage nuke that is hard to hit, unless you land an Event Horizon first. It has a lot of potential, but not unless you can time it right. This is why Dark Matter is maxed after Event Horizon, because it is much easier to hit with a longer stun time on Event Horizon.

Event Horizon(E)
This makes Veigar who he is, land one of these on the enemy and burst it down in no time. Can be used to stop an entire team in its tracks, or good for cutting of escape paths.

Primordial Burst(R)
This can do some crazy damage, between a 120% AP scale, awesome base damage, and 80% damage scaling based off the target's AP. You might find yourself one hitting champion's like Lux. Obviously it is extremely effective to use it on AP enemies, but don't use it ONLY on AP enemies, it does immense damage to anyone.

Basically as Veigar when initating, it goes E>W>Q> and R if necessary.

Farming

Veigar ha some nice famring abilities between his Baleful Strike, to easily pick up a minion kill from a distance, and Dark Mattter to weaken/wipe out entire waves. It is tempting to use Dark Matter on waves to one hit the casters, but it is better to get that bonus AP form Baleful Strike last hits.

When laning against an enemy champion, don't play it to aggressive until mid game, early game farming is your life.

Early Game

I have probably said this 5 times now, but I cannot stress it enough: until level 6 you should do nothing but farm. This is why you start with boots instead of a dorin's ringDorin's Ring, so you can focus on dodging enemy attacks, and darting in to get CS. Wen you are farming, every time your Baleful Strike is off cooldown, you shuld use it(if possible). If you are having mana problems get something like a Chalice of Harmony or a Tear of the Goddess.

Mid-Late game

This is when you will start to shine, you can start to play very aggressively and poke all the time with your E>W>Q combo. You can also pick um some easy kills on the other mid laner(if AP) if it is not recalling while at half health or less, a quick combo and ult will burst it down. And do not underestimate Veigar's tower diving, and count tower dives.
