About me
Hello :) my name is Liam, i am a current Platinum jungle main. I have been playing since the start of season 2 but only in the last year taken to playing ranked play. My favourite types of champion are assassin/fighter's (Rengar, Shaco, Vi ect.) as well as unconventional junglers ( Twisted Fate, Cho'Gath, Shen). I managed to get from bronze 4 after my provisional games to gold 3 in just a few weeks and after a bad spell (not feeling up to league/bored of league) i decided to stop playing for a while. However the new updates to summoners rift and all the new champions coming out have drawn me back in and I'm having so much fun. I've decided to make some guides to champions that i have lots of experience with and hope to share my knowledge with the community of mobafire. Sorry for the TLDR but i hope you enjoy my guide, a rating would also be greatly appreciated and I'm open to any suggestions/criticisms that you guys have! see you on the rift!
This guide is going to focus more on the tankier Rengar as i feel that it is the best way to build him for ranked play.
Runes
Greater Mark of Attack Damage x9 - Increases AD for dueling and jungle clears
Greater Seal of Armor x9 - Great runes for early game defensive stats. You can swap these out for scaling armor runes if you want to scale a little bit better for the late game.
Greater Glyph of Cooldown Reduction x9 - Cooldowns are a great idea on rengar as you will want to spam your abilities as much as possible to get ferocity stacks
Greater Quintessence of Attack Speed x3 - Works with empowered q and helps with fighting/jungle clears.
BONETOOTH NECKLACE: Rengar gains a trophy whenever he scores a champion kill or assist and gains bonuses based on how many trophies he has.
3 TROPHIES: Hunter's Domain: +25 Movement speed while out of combat or in brush.
6 TROPHIES: Unseen Predator's range is increased by 125.
12 TROPHIES: Thrill of the Hunt's duration is increased by 5 seconds.
20 TROPHIES: Thrill of the Hunt's movement speed while stealthed is doubled.
Max Savagery first as it is your main source of damage and Empowered Savagery is an AD steroid that will cause your next basic attack to do 30 - 240 (+ 50% AD) AD and will let you destroy the champion that you are facing.
Battle Roar is maxed second as it gives you bonus magic resistance and armor depending on how many champions or large mosnters are hit by it. empowered battle road also heals you for 12 - 80 health, increased by 6.25% for every 1% of your missing health, for up to 75 - 500 health.
Thrill of the Hunt is maxed third as it is your ultimate ability and gives you true vision of nearby enemy champions even when in the fog of war, you also get a 25 / 35 / 45% movement speed bonus while stealthed and generate 5 furocity over the next 5 seconds.
Bola Strike is maxed last as i feel that is is not as efficient on this tankier build compared to Battle Roar.
Spirit Visage is a life saver when it comes to playing Rengar, the passive hp regen after taking damage can save your life when it comes to escaping from duels or can keep you healthy during teamfights.
Mobility Boots are fantastic on Rengar as it gives you bonus movement speed when in your jungle -meaning you are faster to get to lanes and therefore makes ganking easier- and it also scales with your bonetooth necklace as it also gives you bonus movement speed when out of combat at 3 stacks and later at 20 stacks.
from there on it is entirely up to you what items you choose as it will vary depending on what team compositions you are up against.
The map above shows you the numbered order in which to do your camps on both blue side and purple side, the route is the exact same no matter what side you start on. I feel that Rengar gets really low on his first clear when you start gromp compared to drugs as the krugs give you the passive stun after 5 basic attacks.
When you have 5 ferocity stacks its best to use your empowered Q as it helps you clear the camp faster/proc the krug passive more frequently. Empowered W doesn't give you much HP in the early game and is inefficient compared to using your empowered Q when it comes to clearing camps.
1. Krug camp - I always start the krug camp as when you Smite it you get the heavy hands buff which means that every 5 basic attacks you will stun your target. If you are not confident with jungling this way on purple side then you should start gromp-blue-wolves-red-krugs-chickens
2. Red buff - Red buff gives you passive healing when in combat with monsters which helps a lot with your sustain when clearing camps.
3. Blue buff - blue buff gives you the extra mana sustain that helps a lot with jungle clears.
4. Murk Wolves - If you smite the blue buff then its a good idea to do wolves as you can heal up and get some mana back before you head to the next camp.
5. Gromp - Smite the gromp to get the poison buff that it gives, it will help a lot with jungle clears.
6. Raptors - Finish off your clear by clearing the raptor camp, after you have cleared the raptors head to base for your first purchases.
The new jungle has many benefits from the buff's that the new jungle camps give, which you can use to your advantage. For example if i wanted to scout a lane and i didn't know if it was warded, i would smite the raptor camp to give me the true vision buff to clear any wards on/near that lane. Or say there was a team fight about to occur, i would smite the Gromp camp to get the poison buff that it gives which would aid me when taking damage from basic attacks in teamfights. Be sure to plan your jungle route in consideration with what you want to do next.
When you have Thrill of the Hunt make sure you ult before you hit the lane bush as it takes a second or two to make you invisible, use your Savagery before engaging as it procs and waits for your next basic attack so when you have your target in sight you will just have to right click on them and it will proc the ability. Next use your Bola Strike to slow the target and let your laner catch up and if you have it use Empowered Bola Strike as it will root the target and do a large amount of damage. Finish off by using your Battle Roar as it gives you bonus armor and magic resistance and will help you sustain in the fight and get away while taking less damage.
