Introduction

This is a general guide to playing supports. The aim of this guide is to help players who want to pick up supports but do not know how to.

Before we start, here's a song on supporting.

Your role as a support

Help your carry farm efficiently
- harrass your opponents so that your ad carry can farm safely.
- ward the river and side brush so that you do not get ganked.
- do not auto attack creeps as it makes it harder for the ad carry the last hit.
- Give the carries the kills if possible.(Secure the kill if you are not sure if the opponent is able to escape or not)

warding
- ward key areas like baron, dragon ,blue buff and red buff.
- ward areas that both teams often use.
- always leave base with at least 2 wards.

for more detailed warding you can visit Panglot's warding guide here.

Protect your carries
- most supports have some sort of crowd control or sustain. Use these to keep your carries alive.
- Block skillshots for your carries.
- Sacrifice yourself if it saves your carry.

Take down timers
- baron spawns 7 minutes after killed.
- dragon spawns 6 minutes after killed.
- blue and red buff spawn 5 minutes after killed.

Things to note

- supports benefit a lot from CDR.
- your items should benefit your team.
- you can still do your job without much farm.
- always remember to get wards.
- Assists > kills.
- Don't steal your carry's farm.
- Gold/10 runes/masteries/items is a good way to get additional gold.
