Introduction

Hello gamers! I am Maven (aka LukeBladeX) and I am a big fan of League of Legends.

I have been playing it since the start of Season 2 and loved it ever since. It is an awesome game that requires skill and practice, but is incredibly fun to play. This is my 4th ever guide, so I hope you enjoy it. Let's get started ;)

Lissandra is an AP carry that has high mobility, high CC and high overall damage output. She can carry ranked games like a boss and change entire team fights, making her easy to get through entire enemy front lines, through to their carries and simply destroy them within moments. In this guide I will teach you how to play Lissandra.

This isn't one of those guides that get released as soon as the champion is out, when the creators have no knowledge about the champion what so ever, I have prepared for this guide and studied the champion since it was revealed. I hope you can appreciate it...

*NOTE: This isn't the final version of the guide, it is still UNDER CONSTRUCTION due to Lissandra just being released, will still test everything once again and experiment with new builds.*

*NOTE2: Please do not down-vote the guide if you don't like a certain item or pick that I do, leave your constructive criticism in the Discussions.*

Pros / Cons

Lissandra has more Pros than Cons in my opinion, she is an extremly powerful and important champion. She can be implemented in ranked games once you learn her and you will have no problem climbing up the League and Division ladders.

Pros:

  • Extremly Mobile
  • Relatively High Damage
  • High CC
  • High Roaming abilities
  • High Team Fight presense
  • Fun to play

Cons:

  • In most cases, Lissandra must get close to her enemies
  • Takes some practice
  • Takes time to Master completely
  • Because of the low range, she should be built a bit tanky

Abilities

Lissandra has one of the most powerful skill sets in the mid lane out of all AP carries. She has high damage and high CC as well as high mobility, which easily makes her one of the strongest mid laners our there.

Iceborn (Passive)

- Every 18 seconds, Lissandra can cast an Ability without spending any mana. Make sure to use this wisely and poke your enemies for free. The cooldown is decreased by 1, whenever Lissandra affects enemy movement with her Abilities.

Ice Shard (Q)

- Throws a spear of ice towards the selected location and shatters when an enemy is hit, slowing the hit enemy. The shard (once shatters) also damages targets in a close range behind the hit enemy but doesn't slow them. Max this first for biggest early game damage and harass.

Ring of Frost (W)

- Freezes an area around Lissandra, rooting them and dealing magic damage. Max this ability last, because it will be more useful in team fights.

Glacial Path (E)

- Casts a claw to the selected location (max range) dealing magic damage to all units hit. Reactivating this ability teleports Lissandra to the current location of the claw. Use this ability for closing gaps between you and the enemy, or escaping enemy ganks. You can also travel through walls. It is like a low cooldown flash. Max this second, because it scales better than your W and will give you more mobility and damage.

Frozen Tomb (R)

- An amazing ultimate that can be used to lock down your enemy carry (or any enemy champion), stunning them and dealing magic damage, while also slowing nearby enemies and damaging them as well. You can ALSO cast it on yourself, damaging and slowing nearby enemies and making yourself un-targetable and putting yourself in a form like Zhonya's Hourglass. Extremly useful ability!

Runes

For Lissandra I recommend standard AP mid runes, taking Magic Penetration reds, Mana regen yellows, Magic Resistance blues and flat AP quints.

Pretty much standard for most mid laners, giving Lissandra more survivability with MR, more damage with Magic Penetration and AP, as well as Mana regen which gives her longer lane sustain with more mana.

Masteries

ooldown Reduction and Ability Power in Offense and Mana/Mana regen and increased buff duration in Utility.

These masteries help a lot with Lissandras gameplay and are very important.

Summoner Spells

Ignite

- Useful spell to easily pick up your kills if your enemies are low HP and barely out of reach. It's good through out the whole game, also providing you a nice advantage early game.

Flash

- Standard spell for most champions in the game for more escapes and safety. Also good for re-positioning in team fights once you engage with your E. Needs no further explanation.

Barrier

- If your enemies have high burst damage, use this spell to prevent your death. It will give you a bonus shield which is also good for engaging team fights and tower diving (when you are low hp).

Starting Items

For starting items I prefer to take:

Sight Ward x2

Health Potion x5

Mana Potion x4

Why you ask? This inspired me on Froggen's stream. Once I saw it there (before that, I always started with Boots + 3 hp pots), I used it to try it out. And it turned out to be AMAZING! It gives you incredible lane survivability with all the potions you get.

The two sight wards will help you prevent the enemy jungler of ganking you. Two good spots you can place it are:

1. Between enemy wraiths and river
2. Opposite bush of the enemy wraiths (opposite side of the first ward)

OR, you could try placing them in the enemy jungle (ONLY if you are comfortable with your lane, so you don't get ganked so easily) and try to counter-jungle the enemy and steal their buffs. It will give your team a larger map control and will help you to victory.

Item Explanation

With Lissandra you need good survivability because of your full combo, taking you close up with the enemy.

What was I going for?
I was going for survivability early game (Taking Rod of Ages) for more health and sustain in lane, then proceeding to extreme damage and more survivability in late game (for better team fight use). This will destroy your enemies and freeze them in place. Then you will simply shatter them into pieces.

Now let's get into items more in-depth. I will explain each standard build item pick here.

Sorcerer's Shoes

- A very obvious pick for an AP mage, this boots will give you enough movement speed, as well as Magic Penetration which will ignore a certain amount of enemy Magic Resist (depends on how much Magic Penetration you have). Needs no further explanation.

Rod of Ages

- A core pick for Lissandra because it gives her lane sustain as well as damage and survivability. The extra HP and Mana is very important because Lissandra has to get in close range in order to do her combo, so you will need to survive a few blows.

Rabadon's Deathcap

- Another core pick for Lissandra as well as every other mid laner out there (well maybe not Ryze), she needs that tons of AP! With the spectacular UNIQUE passive, it will boost your AP to new levels! A very important item. Needs no further explanation.

Liandry's Torment

- This item will go really well with your abilities and will burn down enemy HP without a problem. Because of your pretty much constant damage the Torment will torment your enemies and they will fall...

Athene's Unholy Grail

- Another very important pick for roaming and team fights, well even in lane! Why? Because of your UNIQUE passive, every time you kill an enemy or get an assist as well as improved mana regeneration with another UNIQUE passive. This item will also give you better CD reduction, Mana regen, Magic Resist and AP! A very powerful item for Lissandra.

Zhonya's Hourglass

- A very important item to take, it works so well with your ultimate. It also gives you some nice armor against enemy AD champions and a lot of AP, which will work great with your Rabadon's Deathcap. Why does it work well with your ultimate, you ask me? If you are in danger in a team fight because your team mates didn't follow and you are between enemies, use your Frozen Tomb on yourself and it will damage enemies and make you invulnerable and un-targetable. Once that expires, activate your Zhonya's Hourglass and you will have more time for your allies to get to you, while you will be laughing at the enemy.

Situational Items

Abyssal Scepter

- A very useful item if their team is mainly AP and stacking Magic Resistance versus you.

Deathfire Grasp

- Use this item if you need some extra burst to kill your mighty enemies. They will fall...

Void Staff

- This item will give you extra magic penetration if the enemy team has a lot of Magic Resistance, your Void Staff will break that. Increases your damage output.

Rylai's Crystal Scepter

- Useful item if you have enemies that have good escapes. It will give you enough time to catch up with them and slow them again. Also gives some health which gives you more survivability. Even though you have slows with your abilities, Rylai's will be a nice addition to your CC.

Boots of Mobility

- If you want to roam more and your enemies are fast, buy this item instead of Sorcerer's Shoes (don't get this if you are behind) so you will gank faster and lead your team to victory.

Early Game

In early game, I recommend you to use your passive to your advantage. Your passive = free harass to the enemy. They wont be happy about it. Practice your skillshots and take down your enemies one by one!

Take the starting items, which will give you an ability to out-sustain your opponent and if played correctly, outfarm them as well.

The first time you back (or the second), you should get your Early game items (from the build) and snowball the game. Once you pick up the boots, simply go roam around the map, helping your bot lane and top lane if needed. That way you will win the game as soon as all lanes are winning.

Mid Game

Up next comes the mid game. By now, you should already be ahead of your opponent and snowball the game. Make sure you are outfarming the enemies, so you have a bigger chance of winning the game.

Make sure to ward the enemy jungle, giving your team bigger map control and try to counter-jungle the enemy jungler. With that done, the enemy jungler will fall behind and your jungler will take the lead.

Don't forget, only with teamwork, you will be able to take the victory.

Late Game

The final part of the game, is the late game. This is very important. The team fights will start here and the fight for baron will begin.

With Lissandras abilities, you have a great impact on the enemy team with your CC and high damage. Make sure to lock down the enemy AD carry or whoever is fed on their team. Don't forget to burst down the enemies with your amazing combo, the enemy carry wont even stand a chance. Here is a challenge for them: hit at least one basic attack. This is how powerful you are.

Make sure that you are tanky because your abilities force you to get closer to the enemies. If you recieve high damage, use your ultimate Frozen Tomb on yourself and if that isn't enough you will still have your Zhonya's Hourglass.

If you win team fights, you will be able to push objectives and if you do that you will eventually win the game.

Lane Opponents

Roaming

When you are playing Lissandra, roaming is extremly important. With your high damage, mobility and CC you will be able to shut down enemy AD carry or top laner, without being spotted by a single ward.

If the river is warded, you can move through the enemy jungle so you are not spotted by a single ward. Once you are ready and close to the lane, use your Glacial Path to teleport yourself over the wall in to the lane.

If you haven't reached the enemies yet, use your Ice Shard to slow them, walk to them and then root them with your Ring of Frost then burst them down with the help of your allies. Keep doing that until the enemy is really far behind, making sure you take them out of the game. It will improve your win rate incredibly!

Team Fights

Lissandra has high team fight presense and is very important there because of her high damage and CC. With her crowd control, the enemy carries wont be able to do a thing and imediately will get destroyed by you and your allies with your incredible damage.

If your ally tank engages in a team fight, you can follow him and move through your enemies with your Glacial Path right to their carries. Pick a carry and use your ultimate on them, making them stunned. Then root them and Q then till they die. Of course you will have the help of your allies, so you won't have to do all the work.

Another example of a team fight is, if your tank decides to back out once you are between all the enemies. Here you can cast your Frozen Tomb on yourself, making sure you cannot take any damage, while still CC-ing and damaging enemies nearby. Combine your ultimate with your Zhonya's Hourglass and the enemy will cry every time they see you appear. Your team will follow up and together you will destroy the enemies. Just stay positive and focus on your own gameplay :)
