Introduction

This Guide is an easy to learn, quick guide to pro playing Shyvana. It's quite short but informative and if there any questions or suggestions feel free to throw them in the comment box, it'll let me know my mistakes and improve on my guide making skills.

Over the past year I believe I've gotten much better as a player in general and gotten to know Shyvana a little better for myself.

Now, as I intend to share my knowledge with all you Summoner's, Lets Get Started!

Jungle Picks

I wanted to avoid this entire rating system but I already took the time to write most of it out so I just finished it. And I know its long, but I tried to go around the roster and decide who would mainly be picked against Shyvana.

Here I rated the possible enemy junglers with ★☆☆☆☆ being easy and you're best bet to counter with Shyvana and ★★★★★ being difficult to counter jungle.

★☆☆☆☆ Amumu- Really easy to counter jungle, weak duelist, and low escapability. You can stick to him with your high mobility but be aware of his ult.

★☆☆☆☆ Fiddlesticks- An easy invade opportunity. He is really slow and on top of that, he's squishy. Go after him after he wastes his drain on a minion or creep.

★★☆☆☆ Jarvan IV- Not the fastest jungler but he is pretty tanky if he's ahead of you in gold. Make use of his lack of jungle speed, try and not to fight him if his health is even with your's. He has escape capabilities and be aware of his Ult when he learns it.

★★☆☆☆ Olaf- He is Fast so make sure you don't overlook his jungle speed. He will be low during most of his jungling which allows counter junglers like Shyvana to strike. Just wait in a bush and catch him by off his guard, don't have a head-on collision, it won't be pretty.

★★☆☆☆ Riven- She's not very good in the jungle but has pretty decent jungle speed. Just try and steal creeps here and there because you can against her, and you may not be able to kill her but if you ever meet up with her make sure her team isn't MIA.

★★☆☆☆ Warwick- Only thing to be careful about this guy is his Ultimate. Other than that, he has slow jungle speed and will never have all his camps dead at a time. Easy creep stealing and if you engage in a fight, make sure he is low enough for you to burst him.

★★★☆☆ Gangplank- If he has red buff you won't be able to escape unless you flash or Ult. If you fight him, it'll take too long and his team would have caught up to you guys so avoid engaging on him.

★★★☆☆ Udyr- He is really fast at clearing camps but if he is using Wingborne Storm you'll be able to escape from him. Also, if you fight him 1v1 you'll take too long so just go for his creeps.

★★★★☆ Cho'Gath- Really fast at clearing camps so avoid stealing creeps and invading. If he hasBlessing of the Lizard Elder he'll just slow you and pop you up until his team comes to kill you.

★★★★☆ Lee Sin- If he sees the counter jungling, he'll be a problem. If he's near, don't invade because of his hard slow and only fight him if you are doing good with cs and ganks. Make sure enemy top or mid isn't coming to help him and have your support or mid watch your back when you engage.

★★★★☆ Maokai- Like Lee Sin, he can clear camps fast and is kinda tanky. You can fight him 1v1 but be sure he doesn't get help from his team. Also, if you decide to invade on your own and you get rooted, you're ****ed. So avoid invading without some back up.

★★★★★ Rammus- Really good at preventing you from stealing his jungle because of his high mobility. Needless to say he's tanky as sh*t so you won't be safe unless you know for sure where he is all the time. Ward up for this guy for invade opportunity and also for his ganks.

★★★★★ Skarner- Hardest jungler against Shyvana imo. Fast clearing, strong early game, and infinite slows. Plus his Ult will end you if you waste Flash. Only counter or engage on this guy if you're ahead in gold and doing very well early game.

★★★★★ Trundle- Another fast jungler who is powerful and unkillable. His Pillar of Ice will really get in your way and buy enough time for enemy reinforcements so avoid invading. Only invade or engage if you are doing very well early game and are high in cs, also make sure enemy team isn't MIA or coming to help.

Lane Shyvana

I didn't want to make a Lane Shyvana Chapter but I already wrote these notes so may as well copy and paste them.

Here are the Top Lane enemy Champs to look out for and who are easy to lane against.
Again, ★☆☆☆☆ for easy laning and ★★★★★ for hardest.

★☆☆☆☆ Garen- He is strong early level but after 4 or 5 your Burnout will match his Judgment, also you can attack while spinning and he cannot. Don't get overconfident while his ulti is up.

★☆☆☆☆ Renekton- Buy a Wriggle's Lantern and you should be fine. Buy Ninja Tabi and he won't do anymore damage. Out-level and shut him down before he becomes a tanky threat to your carry late game.

★☆☆☆☆ Nasus- Like Irelia, deny his farm. In my opinion, at level one, just kill him. He won't be able to slow you, nor will his Q have 'any' farm. Especially after patch 3.6 his Wither wont be as effective anyways.

★☆☆☆☆ Sion- Deny farm, harass. Easy and simple lane to play. Small ganks will shut him down, after that just free farm.

★★☆☆☆ Zed- Pretty good match-up, careful for his level 6 when he goes all in. Buy armor and try to out farm and push him out of lane. Attack back when his moves are on cooldown.

★★☆☆☆ Akali- Your Q will deal equivalent damage to her's and you'll be able to continuously damage her with Burnout even with her in Twilight Shroud.

★★☆☆☆ Cho'Gath- He's passive in-lane but pretty tanky, you won't be able to kill him, but neither will he. Just dodge his Rupture, be aggressive and out farm him until you get a gank.

★★☆☆☆ Darius- Catch him out of his combo, and fight small scrimmages. His Hemorrhage and Noxian Guillotine will hurt you more the longer you fight.

★★☆☆☆ Vi- Early games she'll be pretty strong and Vi does fairly well mid-game, but Shyvana farms better and has better fights in longer duels with her Burnout.

★★★☆☆ Fiora- Don't fall behind against her, engage with Burnout to bait her Riposte, then activate your Twin Bite. Care for her level 6.

★★☆☆☆ Galio- Just like Cho'Gath, farm lane and dodge his Q's. After he burns his Q, run in to harras or go for the kill if you run Ignite.

★★☆☆☆ Gangplank- DO NOT let him get ahead of you, he will Parrrley mostly only minions. When it goes on cooldown, harass and/or go for the kill. His passive+ Exhaust+ Cannon Barrage will be deadly so watch out for that.

★★☆☆☆ Irelia- Deny her creep kills, Shyvana is stronger than Irelia early game so shut her out and watch out for ganks.

★★☆☆☆ Jarvan IV- He is a bit tankier than Shyvana. After he jumps to you, his skills are basically on cooldown. Like Darius, catch him off his combo and destroy him.

★★☆☆☆ Singed- Harass and deny farm. When he comes to Fling, hit him with everything and that'll set the tone against your lane. Beat him early, don't let his farm get out of hand.

★★☆☆☆ Riven- Pretty even match up. Both will deal equivalent damage, just use Burnout when she activates Broken Wings. In my opinion, this lane will come down to the better player.

★★☆☆☆ Kha'Zix- Avoid his W and stay away from your minions when he casts but care for his passive. After level 6 buy health and armor, you should be able to duel.

★★☆☆☆ Lee Sin- Don't fight him when he Cripple. You can win small trades but don't let him heal up with Iron Will. Also, fight him under minions, as he will have nothing to jump to.

★★★☆☆ Jax- He has the burst to harass you, but as long as you stay at about half health, you'll be fine. If you duel at low health he will win, but if he wastes his stun then go in and fight.

★★★☆☆ Olaf- Try not to duel at low health, he will attack faster and his Reckless Swing will finish you. Don't overextend, and wait for level 6+ to trade hits with him.

★★★☆☆ Pantheon- Another harass champ who will be chucking spears all game. Be sure to buy pots or grab Teleport because he 'will' push you out of lane. Farm as much as possible and kick his *** mid game.

★★★☆☆ Trundle- He has more sustain early game so focus on farm. His ult will take away from your Dragon's Descent passive, so ask for ganks or harass when you can and stay farmed.

★★★☆☆ Fiora- Don't fall behind against her, engage with Burnout to bait her Riposte, then activate your Twin Bite. Care for her level 6.

★★★☆☆ Wukong- He will definitely win lane if you aren't careful. Play carefully aggressive early game to burn his mana and ask for ganks to shut him out. He won't have any escapability by then.

★★★★☆ Kayle- She'll harass you and there's nothing you can do about it. Just farm with your E and ask for ganks. You shouldn't be playing against Kayle with Shyvana anyways.

★★★★☆ Jayce- He will be annoying with his range, if he gets too close, use that advantage and harass, otherwise last hit and hug turret and ask for ganks. You will win duels with him, but he will just knock you back and harass again, so watch out for that.

★★★★☆ Elise- If she misses her Cocoon and your minions are pushing, harass her. She'll be annoying until you buy some MR, until then wait for ganks.

★★★★★ Yorick- Buy sustain early on and hug turret if you have to. He will out-harass and out-sustain you so ask for ganks and farm as much as you can.

Runes

For Top Lane Shyvana, I use greater quintessence of armor penetration and greater mark of armor penetration. This allows Shyvana to be stronger towards mid-late game. Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist for late game and Greater Seal of Armor accents Dragon's Descent's passive very well.

• The reasoning behind armor pen is the nerf prior to season 3 on armor pen, and this allows Shyvana to deal with tanks and hefty champions without sacrificing damage.

As Jungle Shyvana I put up Mark of Attack Speed in place of Armor Pen. for faster jungle clearing, it also increases DPS later in-game. I keep Quints, Seal, and Glyphs the same as before.

Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage is also a good choice, along with Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed for easier ganks and increased jungle speed.

Summoner Spells

Recommended

I recommend this to any beginner playing Shyvana. Exhaust helps with securing kills in duels and chases, while buying you time to Dragon's Descent outta there if you're in a tight spot.

Helps Top lane Shyvana in dueling 1v1, helps in securing kills, and also very good against passive champs who has survivability like Lee Sin, Dr. Mundo, Olaf.

A great Summoner Spell for when you need to make plays or escape. Shyvana, truly, only has one initiation skill which is Dragon's Descent so if you take Flash, use it wisely.

Grab Smite as Jungle Shyvana. It takes away from being able to ignite a champ or exhaust a carry, but it has potential to steal Baron Nashor , Ebonmaw ,Blessing of the Lizard Elder andCrest of the Ancient Golem
.

Skill Sequence/Ability Explanation

Auto Attacks gives Shyvana additional effects on her abilities

- Twin Bite's: cooldown will reduce by .5 seconds.
- Burnout: extends the duration by 1 second per attack, for up to 6 seconds.
- Flame Breath: ignores 15% of the target's armor.
- Dragon's Descent: regenerates 2 fury per attack, and increases duration of Dragon's Descent while active.

Learn this at level 2 and max second.

Twin Bite allows Shyvana to attack twice on her next activation. This is her burst of damage that sets the tone in a duel and is also her secondary focus of damage.

Dragon Form: Twin Bite does full damage in a cone in front of Shyvana. All on-hit effects will proc each champion and minion hit by Twin Bite granting fury for each champion and minion hit, twice, keeping you in Dragon's Descent for a longer duration.

Learn this at level 1 and max first.

Burnout will be Shyvana's primary source of damage output. It scales with .2 of your bonus attack damage but deals magic damage. Also, don't forget to utilize her movement speed buff to increase your mobility while ganking and jungling.

Dragon Form: Burnout engulfs the her path with flames, or ice, for 6 seconds, dealing continuous magic damage to whoever walks on it.

Learn this at level 4 and max last.

Flame Breath shoots out a fireball dealing magic damage and debuffing the target's armor by 15%. People think this move is useless, but the debuff combined with armor penetration really takes away their defenses for you and your teammates.

Dragon Form: Flame Breath emits a cone of flame in front of Shyvana dealing the 15% armor reduction to every champion and minion hit. This move is great for teamfights and ganks.

Learn this at level 6, 11, and 18.

Dragon's Descent flings Shyvana forward, knocking all things she hits in her direction of flight while transforming herself into a dragon.
Passively provides 10/15/20 Armor and Magic Resistance while in human form.
Make sure you use her Ultimate wisely when engaging as to not let them simply Flash away as soon as you as you fly in.

Dragon Form: While in Dragon's Descent, the defensive stats are doubled from 10/15/20 to 20/30/40. Shyvana will lose 6 fury every second while in Dragon's Descent

NOTE: Shyvana is not meant to tank an entire team's worth of damage. Play her as the secondary initiator or work together to engage, or you will become the main target, flying to your death.

Starting Items

Hunter's Machete the best starting item for junglers all around. ALL damage dealt to monsters are increased by 10%. Yes, Burnout and Twin Bite applies to this. Clearing should be a piece of cake, especially since Shyvana is already a fast jungler.

Buying Madred's Razors will instantaneously increase your jungle speed with a little bit of luck, your Twin Bite will proc with it's unique passive to deal 300 magic damage to kill camp leaders with one or two shots. Also the armor added will help reduce the damage taken and keep you alive in your jungle for longer.

This item will build into either your Wriggle's Lantern or a Blade of the Ruined King which are two essential items for Shyvana as a jungler. Which will also keep you alive longer and allow you to sustain in battles and in the jungle.

Core Items

Blade of the Ruined King is a very important item on Shyvana. I cannot stress how much you need this item. Wit's End used to be the go-to item for Shyvana however due to the replacement and added attack speed, Blade of the Ruined King now seems to be the perfect item for Shyvana's kit.

Although it doesn't give you the burning effect that Sunfire Aegis gives you, it bestows more armor and health than that of Sunfire Aegis. Also, it provides a nice AOE slow to keep you attached to whomever you are chasing and lowers enemy attacker's attack and movement speed as they focus you.

It has one Unique Passive, "Icy", and it's 40% movement speed debuff allows Shyvana to stick to opponents so easily, along with her Burnout and Randuin's Omen's Unique Passive. It relatively guarantees an easy gank and secured kills. An early Phage adds continued consistency mid game.

Tank Items

Grab this for an AP heavy team, for example; AP Mid + Akali top, Rumble top, Vladimir top, Ryze top, etc.

With this item built along side with Warmog's Armor, it compliments Shyvana's role very well as the anti-carry. I'd recommend taking this item mid game if their ADC is doing well.

It's synergy with Thornmail and Maw of Malmortius along with Dragon's Descent's defensive stats allow you to be a much tougher dragon to kill.

Works very well Burnout and give decent amount of defensive stats and health. Allows you to get into battle and deal significant damage while tanking for your team.

Situational Items

Just a great item on Shyvana giving good attack speed and extra magic damage per attack. If you're doing well, I'd take this item to end the game early against squishy enemy AP.

Sheen effect combined with Twin Bite give a great burst and Phage with Burnout sticks you to enemies. I'd recommend this if you can afford it mid-game, to push and gank lanes.

I recommend this against any tanky enemy jungler or top lane champ. This will take away from Shyvana's tankiness but will make up in teamfights and single engages reducing armor for you and your ADC to easier shred the enemy team.

Team Work

Synergy

Whether if you could pull off a Hecarim solo top or Shyvana solo top, both of these guys' Ultimate's synergizes so well with each other, it's like two trains on the same side, ramming into lifeless zombies and destroying the battle field.

Allowing Command: Shockwave to grab the enemy team for Shyvana to Dragon's Descent and pick off carries, makes for a great pro play and a game winning fight. Orianna's kit also gives a nice support feel when it comes to teamfighting.

Picking Shyvana along with the support of Lulu adds a nice compliment to your team, especially when she make you a big healthy dragon, the way Shyvana SHOULD HAVE BEEN CREATED!
None the less, Lulu is a great support and the extra CC works well with Shyvana.

When Jarvan IV engages with Cataclysm, it makes you think twice about Descending into the pit. Unless he traps all or most enemy champs inside, then using Dragon's Descent will turn this fight into a slaughter.

Combining your Dragon's Descent with Malphite's Unstoppable Force initiates with such power and crowd control, in the end, you both are just in there fu*king sh*t up.

Role

• If you're the only tanky person on your team, it will be expected of you to peel and initiate in teamfights. Although Shyvana isn't as naturally tanky as Jarvan IV or Nautilus, its plausible to approach her in that light but I highly recommend a support or tanky top/jungler to engage first in any teamfight.

• When cleaning up or initiating, make sure to actually hit enemies with your Dragon's Descent. It adds a nice instant burst of damage effortlessly with zero drawbacks and only continued added effects. Wait for enemies to burn their blink abilities to run them down; Flash, Arcane Shift, Distortion, 90 cailber net, Riftwalk, etc.

• It all comes down to whether how well you are doing in-game to be tanking and/or to be the disrupter and damager.

Shyvana will always be playing a huge part in teamfights, solely on the reason being that she is a very team oriented champion and depends a lot on the compatibility the team's effort to work together.

Jungling

Route 1

Shyvana tends to be more aggressive in the jungle allowing her to steal camps and consistently gank lanes. Please ask for help from Mid and Top Lane, Smiteless leash always is better!

To explain the picture above:
1. Learn Burnout focus Big Wraith.
2. *Potion* Burnout focus Red Lizard. *DUN DUN DUN* Shyvana has learned Twin Bite!
3. *Potion* You can either go safely into your Blue buff and gank afterwards or Burnout into their Red Buff brush and either wait for a buff steal/champ kill or if you see enemy jungler in lane ganking, just go ahead and steal Red if Smite is up.
4. *Potion* Gank Lanes, your Red Buff would have refreshed.
5. Continue jungling and level up to keep up with lanes, and gank top lane if needed.
I'd recommend taking this route whenever jungling against a:
Amumu
Fiddlesticks
Jarvan IV
Warwick

These will most likely take the Wolves>Blue>Wraiths>Red approach when jungling and will be pretty low health or close to when trying to battle Red. While you wait in brush, you can either Smite and Burnout of there or steal the Blessing and kill the jungler all together. I love making this play, gives me such an advantage. Make sure enemy lanes aren't MIA coming to his rescue, don't be afraid to burn Ghost/ Flash to escape out of there.

Caution:

Deciding when and when not to steal enemy jungle is entirely situational and should never be attempted without support or awareness from your team!

Route 2

This approach tends to be slower but safely allows you to get your creep score up quickly while being useful in lane.

Explanation in picture above:
1. Learn Burnout focus Big Wraith.
2. *Potion* Burnout focus Red Lizard. *DING* Shyvana is trying to learn Twin Bite!
3. Burnout on Big Wolf and spam Twin Bite.
4. *Potion* Continue onto Crest of the Ancient Golem Camp, focus Ancient Golem and Smite.
5. *Potion* Ganking bot lane would be risky as enemy jungler may meet up with you if they've taken the Blue>Red Jungle Route. Safely gank mid if you see an opportunity.
6. If your health is high enough gank top, if needed, or continue to clear all your camps in top jungle.

Closing Note

For both routes, spawning on Blue side (bottom side), you'll still be able to do the route vice-versa. This only means you'll be focusing Top and Mid much more than you are your ADC Lane. You can also alter the route to your liking and gank after Blessing of the Lizard or start at your Ancient Golems and immediately steal enemy Red.

Special thanks to jhoijhoi on the making a guide, guide. Helped me to make my guide look cleaner and professional.

Also I apologize for creating such long chapters and not splitting them up, I didn't feel the need for separate chapters speaking on the same subject.

This is Torukkmakto and this is my first ever Guide I've released on Mobafire.com
