Introduction

Hello everyone, I'm Zetsubooteki, welcome to my first guide here at Mobafire. I put a fair amount of effort into this Rumble guide, and I would appreciate any and all feedback that you guys may provide.

Rumble is a tanky mage with high damage and no mana, so he will shine at solo top. He is a awesome ganker due to his skill set, and its nearly impossible to win against him in a 1vs1 fight. Furthermore when the team fights start he will be one of the best initiators you have ever seen using his ult The Equalizer.

But i can talk all day so, without further ado, I present to you, my first guide. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Pros / Cons

Pro's

Easy to farm with Flamespitter.
Extremely hard to counter.
Easy escape with Scrap Shield.
Awesome ganker with 2 slows.
Amazing in team fights with The Equalizer.
Most fun champion to play ever.
SPACE SPACE
Con's

When overheated silences yourself.
Get focused a lot.
Easy to play hard to master.
His range is not great.
Enemies will scold you for being OP

Masteries

Offense
Summoner's Wrath This is a no-brainer. You will be using Ignite, because it has nice dmg with a decent range and your range isn't that great. Another 5 AP when its on CD (which it should be 90% of the time).
Mental Force Some sweet AP to help your damage output.
Sorcery Cheap cooldown reduction, but we get it to get to the next one.
Arcane Knowledge Just a must have on any mage.

Defense
Resistance Helps early game survivability.
Hardiness Same thing helps to survive.
Durability Some sweet life to help us through the day.
Vigor We will be solo laning this will help our sustain.
Veteran's Scars Early game 30 extra hp to outmatch our enemy.
Initiator Run faster! yes we will.
Honor Guard Dmg reduction because we will get focused.
Juggernaut More health and reduced disable, did i say we will get focused ?

Runes

Quint's

Greater Quintessence of Health I prefer these for the early advantage. You will have the upper hand on almost anyone with this much extra health.
Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed Will do fine but no real need since you have Scrap Shield, so you will be faster than 90% of the champs out there.
Greater Quintessence of Magic Penetration Another viable option for the extra damage.
Greater Quintessence of Ability Power More AP need i say more ?

Mark's

Greater Mark of Magic Penetration Marks are focused on attack so really only 1 choice here.

Seal's

Greater Seal of Armor This is your best choice by far the early armor will make you that more dangerous.
Greater Seal of Health This is your only "real" other choice but there is really no need for more health.

Glyphs

Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist I go with these since it helps my late game survivability.
Greater Glyph of Cooldown Reduction There is really no need for shorter cooldowns, so DONT.
Greater Glyph of Scaling Ability Power If you want an even stronger early game this is your best choice.
Greater Glyph of Ability Power Another viable option better for late game damage.
Greater Glyph of Magic Resist This will help you early game with some survivability. I cant recommend it though since you will be needing your magic resist mid and late game so Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist is just the better choice here.

Summoner Spells

New Rumble player Teleport + Flash
Advanced Rumble player Ignite + Flash

Flash This is by far my favorite spell, and I use it on all my champs. Enemy running away ? Flash toward him, hit him with a Electro-Harpoon and he is yours for the taking. Getting ganked ? Flash away over a ledge or trough the trees of your jungle and you are home free.

Ignite This spell helps Rumble a lot, since we don't have an amazing large range on our attacks like Xerath. This spell is awesome to just poke an enemy for the rest of his life if hes getting away. Furthermore this spell is a must have against enemy's with healing capabilities like Volibear's The Relentless Storm or Fiddlesticks Bountiful Harvest.

Teleport Maybe the most preferred spell on all solo top champs. If your not convinced you can negate all harassment with your Scrap Shield this is a very good spell for you. It helps you get back in your lane if you get forced out. If you don't have a problem in your lane you can use it to help out in another lane for a quick gank or get to a far away team fight. Anyway this spell is always a good choice.

Other decent spells

Ghost Is a good alternative if you don't like Flash. Some people say its better since it synergizes with Scrap Shield but the thing is : we already move faster than 90% of the enemy's out there, and with the slows we have the others wont come far either. Ghost doesn't give me the utility I get with Flash but if you like it better, by all means take it.

Exhaust Is a amazing spell and it will help you if your facing Xin Zhao or that Tryndamere. But we don't really need the slow, and we don't want to be facing those 2 in a 1vs1 fight anyway. But still it could be useful at times.

Surge Well it gives us more AP need i say more ? OK here we go. Although its a good spell for Rumble it doesn't give us the ranged dmg we get from our Ignite It would give you a great burst in team fights though.

Heal A decent choice if you didn't master this champ yet. It just doesn't benefit him as much as some of the other spells.

Bad spells

Cleanse You are tanky enough to absorb some damage. Mercury's Treads will help us to get out of that nasty cc faster and our Scrap Shield will absorb further damage and gets us out of there.

The other spells aren't even worth mentioning.

Skill Sequence

Junkyard Titan Every spell Rumble casts gives him 20% Heat. When he reaches 50% Heat he reaches his Danger Zone, granting all his basic abilities bonus effects. When he reaches 100% heat, he starts Overheating for 6 seconds, granting his basic attacks bonus magic damage, but silencing him for this duration. This passive is what makes or breaks you. It's a double edged sword so to speak. It's the reason Rumble is a difficult champ to master. In order to keep up your damage you will need to stay between 50% and 95% Heat, this will take some time getting used to. When fighting an opponent it can be necessary to overheat in order to get the bonus damage. On the other hand overheat to soon and you will silence yourself to be delivered to your opponents mercy. As i said this is the hardest thing to master on this amazing champion.

Flamespitter Rumble torches his opponents, dealing 30/60/90/120/150 (+45% of ability power) magic damage per half second in a cone in front of him for 3 seconds. This spell deals half damage to minions. Danger Zone Bonus: Deals 30% bonus damage This spell is amazing. Its your farm, harass and main dmg spell. The beauty of which lies in the fact that after casting this spell it will fire but you can still move, use auto attacks and even can use your other ability's. You take this at lvl 1 and will max it as soon as possible (after getting a point in every skill and of course your ult at level 6).

Scrap Shield Rumble tosses up a shield for 2 seconds that absorbs 50/80/110/140/170 (+40% of ability power) damage. Rumble also gains an additional 10/15/20/25/30% Movement Speed for 1 second. Danger Zone Bonus: 30% increase to the Movement Speed bonus and shield health. Another brilliant skill. It not only shields you from damage, but it also gives you a quick burst of speed. This skill is amazing to get away from enemy's or to get to them. In combinations with your other attacks you can freely harass the enemy while they cant even get to you. First point at level 2 and we max it second.

Electro-Harpoon Rumble shoots his opponent with up to 2 tasers, dealing 55/85/115/145/175 (+50% of ability power) magic damage and applying a stacking slow of 15/20/25/30/35% for 3 seconds. Danger Zone Bonus: Damage and slow amount increased by 30%. Here is your main cc an amazing slow. This ability lets you choose whether to slow 2 enemy's a bit, or 1 enemy a lot, and on top of that it has some nice dmg. It is a skill shot so make sure you hit. A amazing fact of this ability is that, even when you overheat with this ability's first shot, you can still use the second one! So make sure to use it. You take this skill at level 3 and max it last.

The Equalizer Rumble launches a line of rockets at the targeted area dealing 150/225/350 (+50% of ability power) magic damage and leaving a burning trail for 5 seconds dealing 100/140/180 (+20% of ability power) magic damage per second and slowing opponents by 35% while inside the area of effect. This ult is devastating and SO MUCH FUN. Its the first attack in LoL which is fired by a click and drag system. It takes time getting used to it, but it's really not that difficult. This ult has so many purposes. You can use it to slow and catch up with an enemy or slow and get away. You can block your enemy's escape route or you can cast it on the entire enemy team to ensure a won team fight. Anyway this ult will change your game. As with any ult you take it at lvl 6, 11 and 16.

Detailed items

+120 Health +10 Armor +8 Health Regen per 5 seconds All that you need to get started in your top lane. Better choice then a Doran's Ring. Although the AP would be a nice buff you cant use the mp5s and would miss the armor you get with this item.
+25 Magic Resist +35 Tenacity The best boots in the game. Best item with tenacity also, so its a no-brainer.
+140 Ability Power +Increases Ability Power by 30%Highest AP on a single item in the entire game you will get scary when you have this one.
+100 Ability Power +50 Armor +2 Seconds Invulnerability Amazing AP a nice armor buff and 2 seconds of heaven. This is all around an awesome item and a must have for Rumble
+500 Health +80 Ability Power +slow on all ability's Another great item for you. Again massive AP a nice health bonus and all your ability's will slow your enemy's.
+70 Ability Power +57 Magic Resist +20 Enemy Magic Resist Reduction Aura. Again great AP and this time it comes with magic resist to make you that much harder to kill. The magic resist reduction helps you to do even more dmg.
+68 Armor +38 Magic +Revive upon death. Well your dmg should be more then enough to get them scared, so they will focus you. This item gives you the survivability you need, and even i you die you'll come back to haunt them.

Notice that your lane might ask for a different buy order ( or even different items ). If you get harassed a lot, it might be a good idea to get your Rylai's Crystal Scepter first for the added cc and health bonus. Or pick up a Abyssal Mask for that fed enemy LeBlanc
Notice that this build is my main build so its a buy order designed for games in which you can easily hold your lane (which should be almost always). Reason for me to start of with Rabadon's Deathcap instead of Rylai's Crystal Scepter is that Rumble is tanky enough at the start of your game ( at least with the right masteries and runes). So i find myself wanting more dmg, and what better way is there than a Needlessly Large Rod.

In case you have a hard lane and get harassed a lot, its smart to buy a Hextech Revolver you can turn this into a Will of the Ancients later on. This item will give you endless sustain in your laning phase. If your team is very tanky it may be wise to switch your Guardian Angel for a Lich Bane this item in combination with an overheat is insane damage.

Let me end with saying that every build guide should be taken as exactly that, "A GUIDE". Different teams ask for different builds if its a AD heavy team you might wanna pick up a Thornmail. But if that enemy Warwick is always suppressing you with his Infinite Duress you might wanna pick up a Quicksilver Sash. These are situational items and should replace other items when needed. I can't account for every single situation so its up to you to decide if the situation calls for a adjustment.

Some other items Rumble likes

When you are facing a heavy AD team with for example a Xin Zhao and a Ashe these boots will help you. But it will leave you vulnerable to cc so you might wanna pick up a Moonflair Spellblade (for its tenacity ). If you decide to go with these boots.

Another good item to fend off the enemy AD heavy team great against melee AD carry's like Master Yi

This item will help a lot against AP heavy teams since it has the highest magic resist of all items trough out the game. This is what you will wanna pick up if you need more magic resist, since most other items with this stat come with mana or attack speed/dmg, and we don’t have any use for that.

This is a great item if you are doing extremely well, as it is on any mage. Only downfall is, you will be in there face since you are a melee mage. So make sure not to die.

If the enemy team is stacking up there magic resist because there scared of you, this is the only way to go.

If the enemy team is well balanced and just hurting you to much, go with health and this is the item to do it with.

Game play

Early Game

Rumble is one of the best solo top champs out there, which means that is where you'll go. You can easily solo lane against any champion in the game, and wont ever lose your lane (provided your skills are the same). Farm with Flamespitter avoid harassment with Scrap Shield and if they keep coming just give them 1 or 2 hits of your Electro-Harpoon.

(hint)keep between 45 and 55 heat. Use Scrap Shield (65 - 75 heat) use Flamespitter (85 – 95 heat) use Electro-Harpoon to overheat. AA your enemy while Flamespitter is still active and trow your second shot of your Electro-Harpoon at them. This sequence will burn there hp away in a instance.

In an ideal game you should focus on harassing your opponent out off the lane. Your early game dmg is insane and a well placed overheat can easily pick up a first blood, or at least force your opponent to base. Which means free minions for you! Try not to overextend yourself which is pretty easy to do with your Flamespitter but will be punished by there jungler. Go to base when you have 1200g to pick up your Mercury's Treads.

(hint) Try to pick up a few wards whenever you go to base. A ward can and will save your life especially since you will be overextended more often than most champs.

Mid Game

This is where you shine you should have your boots and a Needlessly Large Rod, or maybe even your Rabadon's Deathcap. You should gank mid a whole lot. Try to time this with your jungler. The time of team fights is also upon us, don't be afraid to dive in the fight. Cast your ult The Equalizer on top of the enemy team and dive in the group with your Flamespitter and Scrap Shield. Then just pick up the pieces and slow/kill the running champs with your Electro-Harpoon / overheat combo.
