So I've heard a particular member from Mobafire use this term quite often (cough cough tosh). And I've always kind of ignored it as untrue. There's no doubt there are some people on this website that have absolutely no game knowledge and don't really understand how to play League. But the again, this website is devoted to helping people learn to play league. It's not exactly uncommon to hear negative things associated with Mobafire especially in the League of Legends community as a whole. I think that's partially to do with the prominance of websites like Solomid.net and Lolpro.com which tend to harbor professional players opinions while Mobafire is more for everyone. There's definitely some value to this style of website over a professional one but for a hivemind community such as LEague of Legends where the law of the land is "i saw hotshot do this once" mobafire will never be an acceptable guide site or at least not a site where it is seen as acceptable to get game information from.

So with all that intro out of the way is it really fair to call mobafire a 'noob site'. I think to some degree it absolutely is. As I stated early there are people here who don't really know what they're doing but there's also a lot of people who are very good at the game. And I think part of the problem is the emphasis we put on guides. We like guides that are pretty; they look nice and pristine but that doesn't necessarily mean the information is good. There are a lot of guides that get revenge downvoted, upvoted by friends, etc. I really don't think that the voting system is a real accurate indication of how good a guide is.

Another problem is probably the people and ranks/rep system we have. While rep is only a minor part of the website, and generally a good one, there is definite abuse of rep and some people who think it actually equates into something. Sorry but your rep means nothing, your title means nothing. There are so many good players that don't have a title and so many bad players that do have a title on this website. I understand that a title is supposed to be an accomplishment or represent your role within the community but from my understanding and experience most people don't even use their role. For example, what is the role of a veteran? Nobody really knows, they can verify elo, promotes, guides, and do some other things, but what does it mean? Probably nothing. Similarly, the titles of editor and scout. Now from my understanding an editor is supposed to make suggestions for how to improve guides and scout is supposed to find news/content such as "Nami Champion Spotlight" and relay that information to the site. I could be wrong, and I couldn't find a post regarding said roles, but if I remember correctly those are the roles. The problem with this is there are people who really don't know what a good guide is. They look at the visuals and the layout and determine if it's a good guide that way, and hell, I don't even know what scouts do. I don't think I've ever seen one do their job. These rankings are a complete joke, no standard is held for people with the rankings, no standard is held to get the title, you just have to have enough rep, which in itself is an utter joke.

All in all, does Mobafire deserve the title mobafail? Probably not, but it's kind of like the idea of Elo Hell. Is there such a thing? No, not really, but it's really hard to dispute that there isn't. It's really hard to dispute that Mobafire has a number of glaring issues that will keep it from being ever viewed as a good place to get League of Legends info.

Now before you crucify me, I will let you know, I don't want this site to be like Solomid. I don't want that toxic environment when your opinion is totally based on your solo queue elo. It's a pretty bad community environment itself which is why it pales in comparison to this one, and I'd actually say Mobafire probably has the best community of any other site. You could also say (in the words of Evildice) that a "toxic ****head" like me is what really inhibits this website. And there's a good amount of truth to that, I am no doubt a toxic force in this community in some regards, but I also think there are aspects that I am very good with. I've never been afraid to offend someone, be embarrassed, or basically tell someoen they're wrong, and maybe that is a flaw, but there's also a lot of good that can come from that. Some people need to be told when they're wrong and when they're bad (I'm one of those people too). I'm not saying that there needs to be more people like me nor am I disputing that I am a toxic ****head, but I think there's some definite trade-off. A website like Solomid is considered a good site for League knowledge even with the poor community it has, while a website like Mobafire is seen as one of the worst sites to gain League knowledge even while it has a great community. I guess it comes down to what you're looking for. Is this a Mobafail? yes and no, you have to know what you can get out of it rather than expecting a sheep to give birth to a cow so to speak.

That's all I've got, hopefully this clarifies some things, or makes you at least think. Thanks everyone
