So I've heard a particular member from Mobafire use this term quite often (cough cough tosh). And I've always kind of ignored it as untrue. There's no doubt there are some people on this website that have absolutely no game knowledge and don't really understand how to play League. But the again, this website is devoted to helping people learn to play league. It's not exactly uncommon to hear negative things associated with Mobafire especially in the League of Legends community as a whole. I think that's partially to do with the prominance of websites like Solomid.net and Lolpro.com which tend to harbor professional players opinions while Mobafire is more for everyone. There's definitely some value to this style of website over a professional one but for a hivemind community such as LEague of Legends where the law of the land is "i saw hotshot do this once" mobafire will never be an acceptable guide site or at least not a site where it is seen as acceptable to get game information from.
So with all that intro out of the way is it really fair to call mobafire a 'noob site'. I think to some degree it absolutely is. As I stated early there are people here who don't really know what they're doing but there's also a lot of people who are very good at the game. And I think part of the problem is the emphasis we put on guides. We like guides that are pretty; they look nice and pristine but that doesn't necessarily mean the information is good. There are a lot of guides that get revenge downvoted, upvoted by friends, etc. I really don't think that the voting system is a real accurate indication of how good a guide is.
Another problem is probably the people and ranks/rep system we have. While rep is only a minor part of the website, and generally a good one, there is definite abuse of rep and some people who think it actually equates into something. Sorry but your rep means nothing, your title means nothing. There are so many good players that don't have a title and so many bad players that do have a title on this website. I understand that a title is supposed to be an accomplishment or represent your role within the community but from my understanding and experience most people don't even use their role. For example, what is the role of a veteran? Nobody really knows, they can verify elo, promotes, guides, and do some other things, but what does it mean? Probably nothing. Similarly, the titles of editor and scout. Now from my understanding an editor is supposed to make suggestions for how to improve guides and scout is supposed to find news/content such as "Nami Champion Spotlight" and relay that information to the site. I could be wrong, and I couldn't find a post regarding said roles, but if I remember correctly those are the roles. The problem with this is there are people who really don't know what a good guide is. They look at the visuals and the layout and determine if it's a good guide that way, and hell, I don't even know what scouts do. I don't think I've ever seen one do their job. These rankings are a complete joke, no standard is held for people with the rankings, no standard is held to get the title, you just have to have enough rep, which in itself is an utter joke.
All in all, does Mobafire deserve the title mobafail? Probably not, but it's kind of like the idea of Elo Hell. Is there such a thing? No, not really, but it's really hard to dispute that there isn't. It's really hard to dispute that Mobafire has a number of glaring issues that will keep it from being ever viewed as a good place to get League of Legends info.
Now before you crucify me, I will let you know, I don't want this site to be like Solomid. I don't want that toxic environment when your opinion is totally based on your solo queue elo. It's a pretty bad community environment itself which is why it pales in comparison to this one, and I'd actually say Mobafire probably has the best community of any other site. You could also say (in the words of Evildice) that a "toxic ****head" like me is what really inhibits this website. And there's a good amount of truth to that, I am no doubt a toxic force in this community in some regards, but I also think there are aspects that I am very good with. I've never been afraid to offend someone, be embarrassed, or basically tell someoen they're wrong, and maybe that is a flaw, but there's also a lot of good that can come from that. Some people need to be told when they're wrong and when they're bad (I'm one of those people too). I'm not saying that there needs to be more people like me nor am I disputing that I am a toxic ****head, but I think there's some definite trade-off. A website like Solomid is considered a good site for League knowledge even with the poor community it has, while a website like Mobafire is seen as one of the worst sites to gain League knowledge even while it has a great community. I guess it comes down to what you're looking for. Is this a Mobafail? yes and no, you have to know what you can get out of it rather than expecting a sheep to give birth to a cow so to speak.
That's all I've got, hopefully this clarifies some things, or makes you at least think. Thanks everyone

I think you're complaining about not being a vet. But someone who's been banned isn't a very good candidate. You can't know what vets, scouts and editors do unless you become one. You have enough +rep, but I assume you aren't able to become an Editor or Scout due to past behaviour?
What did you do for almost 1500 rep? Honestly, I have no idea, I know you've made sigs, a few guides, and that's about it from as far as I can tell. Sure you belong to the forum community, but there's a hell of a lot more to this community that I don't think you're a part of the in-game community.
I have never wanted to be a vet nor think I should. It just shows how little you know about me. I honestly have no idea why you're even bothering to comment on this blog because you clearly don't get it. Either read the post or refrain from commenting with all this **** you seemingly spew. You're not even stating your opinion you're just trying to put words in my mouth. I don't even think Mobafire is that fail, I think there are fail aspects of it, but either you didn't read it or you don't comprehend (both seem highly likely)
You have 120 +rep, and I don't even know what you did to deserve it. Does that mean I KNOW you don't deserve it? It means that someone, somewhere, gave you +rep at some time for their own reasons.
If I wanted to +rep you right now out of spite, I could, and it'd boost your +rep. That's the way the system works, and it's ridiculous trying to say it's a bad system when +rep means nothing beyond "thanks" or "+1" or "you've entertained me for a while, here's a token of my appreciation".
There aren't that many Titles, from what I can remember. Host with the Most, Video Contributor, Community Manager, Team Editor (or something similar)... there really aren't that many titles, and mine is one of the weirdest.

Irregardless, you can think all you want that MobaFire is "fail". I know there are plenty of guides that are terrible. But instead of focusing on the bad stuff, which is what the inconsiderate people do, why don't you try focusing on the good stuff?
I don't really see it as complaining about nothing. Maybe you think it's nothing because you're a vet. But a vast majority of the League of Legends community sees this website as a joke, and how can I dispute them? I can't, it is a joke in some sense and where I see part of the problem is these "leaders" in this community, they aren't actually leaders. And it's certainly not everyone, as you pointed out with Wayne and Khazem, they deffinitely pull more than there own weight, but there's a lot who don't do anything
You're complaining about nothing, and it's highly amusing.
8 veterans
7 scouts
14 editors
Even then, some of the ones I have heard of are inactive. I'd say maybe 25% of the people are actually active within this community. Sorry but the system is a joke

:D
didn't even know of this list oO
- and thought there were way more scouts - well we just need some people with gameknowledge and "high" elo to really take their time and actually scout then it's fine
I was going to also add: Titles. People get titles when they do stuff. So for example, Wayne and Khazem are vying for "Host with the Most"; they host the most inhouses. Video Contributor means you've submitted videos for MobaFireTV. Some titles are pure vanity and unique, like mine.
:D
+rep used to mean absolutely nothing. It was just a way of saying "thanks" to someone if they helped you... commented on your guide, made you a signature, posted something awesome in the forums. The only thing it used to ever give you was a little title like "Renowned" etc.
It was only recently that +rep actually gave you something, and I think that was a mistake. +rep allowed you to become Editor, Scout and eventually Vet. About 3 months ago, Vethood was no longer "automatic" and vets could vote on whether to promote a member who had enough +rep. And even more recently there is talk in the vet/scout forums that Scouts should only be high elo members. The reason why you don't know what Scouts do is because Matt and Flash have pretty much removed the Featured Guides mechanic from MobaFire. You have to go OUT OF YOUR WAY to find a featured guide (5 scouts can feature a guide).
Veterans originally were just vanity titles, give to people who have contributed a **** tonne to the site. The same way an employer would give a worker a "Worker of the Year" award, it's just a reward for being active, helpful, etc.
However, that Vet role evolved over time to include vets helping Matt and Flash with ideas for the site. For example, the vet forum is exposed to changes to the site before the rest of you find out. We pick up on the bugs, suggest changes and formulate ideas so the new mechanics of the site run a little more smoothly.
As for guides being pretty. Well before I joined, they weren't. Only Searz had something aesthetically appealing. I have no problem with guides that are pretty as long as the information is correct. Surely you don't have a problem with pretty guides with good information?
In game now, so... I'll reply/continue later.
Editors update the database (like those S3 changes)
Scouts give out scout points to "better" guides
Veterans... have a veteran only forum, and are "specialer"
But yeah, agree mostly. It helped me learn things, found a lot of builds for everyone, things like that Karma guide and Mowen's guides, and Jhoijhoi's guides have some good stuff for new players. Wouldn't be as good as I am without the site. Dudes are pretty nice. Good times generally.
