Introduction

Currently updated to the v3.7 Patch

Hello, and thankyou for reading my Cho'Gath guide to Dominion. This is my first guide ever written on Mobafire, so please don't be too harsh. But saying that, I'd love to hear some constructive criticism on how I can make this (Or other) guide(s) much better.

BIG THANKYOU TO Jhoijhoi for creating a guide on how to create a guide!

I've played Cho'Gath for quite a long time now, and I think he's an amazing champion. Now that Dominion is out, he absoloutely obliterates the game.

I've found that AP Cho'Gath is the most successful builds on Dominion, that I've tried. Tank'Gath isn't that good because obviously, he doesn't deal much damage, compared to AP'Gath, and you naturally get high HP as AP'Gath anyway.

If you are brand new to Dominion, I'd suggest you take a look at this guide. It is very informative, and will help you out alot! Clicky

Pros / Cons

Pros:
  • High Damage (Rupture + Feral Scream can bring any squishy down to half/quarter health)
  • High Health
  • High Burst (Rupture + Feral Scream + Feast = Dead/Near enough dead)
  • Extremely big (6 stacks of Feast + Greater Relic = Scary Cho!)
  • Great scaling (100% of AP with Rupture, 70% with Feral Scream, 30% with Vorpal Spikes)
  • One of the best solo bot in a 4-1 tactic. I've managed to get a double kill in the first 3 minutes of the game by soloing bot!
  • Possibly one of the best defenders
  • Great sustain due to his passive
  • NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM
  • A motherflippin terror of the void! Why WOULDN'T you want to play Cho'Gath?!

Cons:
  • Very slow before boots.
  • No escape.
  • His Rupture can be easily dodged
  • Long cooldowns

Summoner Spells

Recommended Spells

These summoner spells are very recommended with Cho'Gath

A very great spell for Cho, very useful for a number of reasons, mainly to chase down an enemy, securing kills, or capping towers. Using Ghost alongside the speed shrine, will make you look so scary, they'll be forced to surrender due to your terrifying speed and size!

Again, a very great spell for Cho. It helps you lock down onto a champion, or if you're trying to escape. Very very useful

Great spell for Cho, although I'd pick Ghost over Flash, but it's all up to you, everyone's got a different mindset. It's a matter of what you're comfortable with. This spell is a life saver, or a kill securer, or it can go horribly wrong, by accidentally trying to flash over a wall, but instead flashing to the same spot you were at.. /cringe

Ideal/Situational Spells

These spells are ideal or situational for Cho'Gath.

Garrison is pretty useful, it'll keep your turret alive, and do more damage to the enemy, allowing you to win a gank from the enemy team. It's mainly useful if you're defending a turret, or ganking a protected turret. But if you're not near a turret, it's pretty much useless. Another con, is that the cooldown is quite long, considering how many times the enemy will try to cap your turret in 210 seconds, it doesn't help at all if it's on a cooldown.

Ignite is pretty useful actually, you'll level up pretty fast on Dominion, so your ignite will hit a tonne harder. It gives that extra push, when trying to kill an enemy, and also completely demolishes Dr. Mundo. Take this spell if no other ally has this spell.

A pretty damn good summoner spell. It may seem you're trolling if you pick revive, but the movement speed you get flying out of the base is immense. Especially in very tight situations when you need to defend immediately.

It's ok, but I wouldn't really take this over flash/ghost/exhaust

Non-Viable Spells

These spells are just not viable for Cho'Gath at all. They're either a waste of a spell, and/or are just useless

Yeh, it's alright. I'd probably take this spell if they've got high CC champions, but I don't think it's worth taking it over Ghost, Exhaust or Flash, even considering that you can easily get a Quicksilver Sash

You can pretty much see the whole map anyway, so what's the point? Also, I'd only pick this spell if I was playing a support champ, Cho'Gath isn't a support champion..

Useful for super minions, but really not worth it at all.. There's no jungle, so there's no point to it.

Your passive pretty much does this, so these are extremely useless.

Items

These are the reasons for buying the items that I have chosen.

Catalyst the Protector
An extremely strong item early game, with this, you'll easily reach 1k+ HP. And every time you level up, you'll get about a quarter/fifth of your health back, along with alot of mana!

Every build needs this, even Cho'Gath seriously needs this, without this, he's doomed! He's extremely slow without boots, so this will be a good choice to get.

You'll reach this in no time! Possibly around level 6. It's an absoloute must for Cho'Gath, especially that you get the Passive with the Catalyst the Protector

You'll be so fast with this! Chase your opponents down, and they'll absoloutely **** themselves!

Get either the Alacrity buff with your boots to increase your movement speed, or the Distortion buff to lower your summoner spells CD's.

Mercury's Treads is a good item, get this if there's heavy CC from the enemy team. If not, get Boots of Swiftness.
Sorcerer's Shoes is also a good item, but you'll get your ability power from other items. I'd rather choose Boots of Swiftness over these boots though, but if you want that extra kick, get these.

Such an amazing item for Cho'Gath You'll have so much health and AP after getting this item. You'll be absoloutely unstopabble.

If you're getting annihilated by the enemy team, get either these items:

A really powerful item in Dominion, especially against AP. Get this before Rylai's Crystal Scepter, if you're getting obliterated, or after, if you're obliterating. If the enemy team have more powerful AD Champs than AP, get Frozen Heart

Great item for Cho'Gath.Ideal if you're up against heavy AD champs. Get this item before Rylai's Crystal Scepter, if you're getting obliterated, or after, if you're obliterating. If the enemy team have more powerful AP Champs than AD, get Odyn's Veil

If you feel confident enough that you don't need to build either of these tanky items, then build into these after Rylai's Crystal Scepter:

Such an amazing item. This could potentially be the first item, since you could start off with sheen. But, you're a bit more tanky and powerful starting off with the Catalyst, so you're better off getting this later on to snowball.

You'll most likely finish before or just after buying this item. It is a very good item to get, so take it!

The last item for Cho'Gath. There's a high chance that you'll finish way before getting all 6 items, but if you do manage to get there, get this.

Skill Breakdown and Sequence

Cho'Gath's passive. This is what makes him sooo powerful at soloing bot. Not only will you get 120 gold from last hitting the big and 2 small minions, but you'll also be able to get your mana and hp back. Alongside with Catalyst the Protector, you'll be unstoppable if you're well farmed.

Cho'Gath's Q Ability. This is what makes the enemy ragequit. It's knocks them up, deals high damage, and also slows them down on impact. Use this spell as an initiator. Then you'll want to combo it with Feral Scream, to deal so much damage, and to silence them.. They'll be slowed and silenced, they'll be so scared!

After you've gotten your Rylai's Crystal Scepter, you can pretty much one shot small minions with this spell, and you'll bring the big minion to about a quarter of it's health left.

Cho'Gath's W Ability. This is a very strong ability which silences enemies in a cone, use this after using Q to maximise your damage, or to interrupt channeling spells, such as Requiem, Absolute Zero, Crowstorm, Trueshot Barrage, and others. By level 5, you'll silence the enemy for 3 whole seconds! They'll be forced to ragequit!

Cho'Gath's E Ability. Used mainly just for extra damage. It can damage enemies behind it aswell. You can toggle this ability. (But why in the world would you want to turn it off?! The only time I can think when to turn it off, is when you're hitting a tower on Summoners Rift when enemy champions are nearby, just so you don't accidentally hit the enemy under the tower, and get blasted by 2-3 hits from the tower.)

Cho'Gath's R Ability. THIS ABILITY IS ONE OF THE STRONGEST ABILITIES IN THE GAME! You can deal EXTREMELY high burst to the enemy, (Over 650 damage at level 3) which means squishies will need to run, the moment they spot a Cho'Gath over the horizon. It deals 1k to non-champions, so use it mainly on the big minions. If you last hit, or kill with feast, you gain a stack, which gives you health, and makes you one big motherflipper! This is what petrifies the enemy! You can gain up to 6 stacks, and you lose half the stacks if you die. Get this ability up to 6 stacks before using it on enemies, or use it on enemies when they've got low enough health to be killed. WARNING! You will most likely be called OP because of this ability.

Your skill sequence will look a bit like this

R>Q>W>E

ALWAYS ALWAYS get feast at level 6/11/16.
Focus on getting your Q up first, and then your W. When your Q is at level 5, you'll deal tonnes of damage, making your opponents flee in terror!

Tactics

The ideal tactic for your team is to go 4-1. 4-1 basically means that 4 allies go top, and 1 solo's bot. That way, you're guaranteed to capture top early game, and secure it. Your job as Cho'Gath, is to prevent the enemy from capturing your point (Which will be either The Quarry (Bot Left), or The Boneyard (Bot Right)). Your point will most likely be a quest point aswell, which means you'll need to defend it for your life! Once the enemy get your point, and the quest, it's pretty much game over. You'll be bursted down before you can even start to NOM NOM them..

Let's presume you're on the Blue team.. (Left of the screen)

Your point
The enemy's point
Grass/Bush/Brush
Where the enemy can gank you
Where the ally can gank the enemy

When you first stomp out of your base, you'll want to rush to your point, The Quarry, and capture it. Now you've got your point, and the enemy has The Boneyard, meanwhile at top, both teams collide and battle it out. Now you'll need to farm and harass the enemy. The lower you can get them, the better. The more you kill (AND LAST HIT!!!) the enemy minions, the better. You get 120 gold for every wave, which is 1 big minion, and 2 small minions. The small minions give 30 gold each, whereas, the big minion give 60 gold. You'll want to farm as much as possible, without overextending. If you overextend, you'll have far too much room to run away from them, and being a Cho'Gath, you're not a champion which is built to escape, that's why you'll need to stay in the bush closest to your point, just incase the enemy ganks you. You'll have much more room, and more time to react if your in the bush, than overextending to the enemy's point.

If the enemy has alot of minions at their point, you've done a good job. You can recall if you need to, or go around collecting Health Relics.

If you're team did a good job at securing top (Windmill), then you're bound for a victory!
